The Great Atlantean Empire

Again, this is only the history of the Atlantean Empire for the purposes of RPing inside the Empire. I intend to steer clear of fleeting, except with my Heavy Dreadnought (see the "Angelus-class Heavy Dreadnought" post in the R&D section).

I will start out with only or two ships for Fleeting purposes (probably a frigate or destroyer) and expand from there.

Sorry, that should read as "one ship" and should end with "as people join."

Also, it was pretty early in the morning when I wrote the history, so there are some obvious contradictions.

It is possible for a government to claim neutrality while acting against another in a covert manner. Remember the "Lend-Lease Act" during World War II? The United States hadn't yet entered the war, but was providing supplies to the British, and Americans were joining the British military to fight the Nazis. That is what the Empire would do (if agreed upon . . . sorry about that GC, what I actually meant was that the Atlanteans consider the GC and Jedi Order to be their allies and will assist in any way possible. The feelings need not be mutual . . . although that would be preferred.)

I will lower the number of home systems, however, as there are only five in the book. I was mistaken, twenty was the number of systems in the Empire claimed by an enemy in said book. I believe they call that an "oops."

Again, as people post, updates will be made.

I do appreciate all the help, though. I just don't understand why people don't like a 25km-long ship. I mean, the Super Star Destroyer was flippin' 17 kilometers long! 17 kilometers! And look at the Vong, they have those jadaican (Atlantean for damned) worldships! Anyway, thanks.

No. You don't get 5 systems.

Nor 4.

Nor 3.

Nor 2.

You get 1.

Why? Because that's how it works. You get one system then you write to expand. We all start at one block and we aren't about to start letting stuff slip. Because we've no reason to let it slip. We've no want to let it slip. Any sort of slip allows for everyone to get a step forward and we aren't touching that slipping slope of pain, doom, and suffering for the rest of us.

For example, Corise is relatively new (compared to most) and has put forth a vast amount of effort to get the systems he has right now with the Kashan. If you want to put forth that kind of effort and, I don't know, write a 5,000 word post about every single one of the planets in your empire and how they originally came to your belong or how it's all set up or blah blah blah, then you can have them.

But you don't get them for free.

Because that's how it works.

The problem with your 25 km ship is two-fold. First, there is debate on the length of the SSD. The records show anywhere from 8 km to 17km. If I'm not mistaken, the agreed upon length here is 12.5. That makes your ship twice as large. Secondly, the SSD was constructed with the full backing of a massive Empire that spanned hundreds of systems and trillions of credits to blow. Your Empire, starting out, will have one system and not even close to as many credits. Those are the problems.

Oh, I can write a post. In 5,000+ words, I could describe every world in the Empire, the complete history of the Atlantean people, from creation on forward, their creation and destruction "myths", the history of the Atlantean military (mainly the three elite orders), and the biography of my character. I have already begun, I just don't know where to put it. It will be in the OOC forum, and in the Battlegrounds forum. 5,000 words will be a bit difficult for each planet, due to the stories surrounding the creation of the Altantean people (they started out on the five Core Worlds). Anyway, that is a work in progress. I never expected to get them for free. The only hard part is generating names, then translating them into Basic (English). Does anybody know where I can get that cool universal language in a font? Just a random question.

:O I know, can make the five Core Worlds in the same system! Oh, wait, that's how I had it in the book . . . Jadaica! That's why I felt as if I was forgetting something! Yes, there are five inhabitable worlds in the Atlantean's home system. I can't believe I forgot that. I really hate finals. Even in college.

5000 words is necessary for every planet except the first. And it's really not that hard. Be descriptive, write your character's interactions, be verbose. It's okay to do that. Maybe talk about a military training camp.

A suggestion - go read some of Simon Kaine's posts here. He's arguably the best writer on TRF. Heck, he writes 5000 word posts, much less 5000 word threads.

Yes, you can write posts in order to enlarge your Empire. TNO has in excess of 100 planets these days - that means that at the bare minimum, we've put 500 000 words into the development of our Empire.

And many takeovers run past the 5000 word requirement - that's an arbitrary minimum, nothing more. And many more roleplays have been told without any planetary gain.

THAT is how you build an Empire on TRF.

That it not to say your Empire is a bad idea, it's not. It simply will not work as you've described it within the framework of our galaxy. As an independent story, sure. But not here. We have a history and traditions that you're Empire would disrupt, and so it does not fit.

If you want to build it, you're more than welcome. But you do have to build it.

RE: your fleets. Nobody on TRF, not even TNO, has multiple, massive warships. TNO, the largest and most powerful government, has only two ships in excess of 10 000 meters. You cannot have three, nor can you really ever hope to have three.

All in all, you have a great idea for an Empire, and I'm sure it works great in your novel. But it will not work very wel HERE.

This person is obviously not heeding one iota of your wordage.

I have a formal suggestion to resolve the situation; destroy this whole concept ICly. It wouldn't be hard. I'm on board. Omnae has already torn one new asshole for the guy. Anybody else?

I've got pitchforks and torches ready.
