As noted in the thread, the pickets and cutters kept pace with your craft as they moved, keeping you in their range and outside of yours. Annoted in the thread is both the Farfalen ships slowing before they open fire again, and the Damuen ships slowing before they enter the grav well.
Re-read the post as you apparently did a lousy job the first time.

I haven't read the post yet (nor will I have time until this saturday) but I did happen to spot the last line, which ends saying we've made a huge mistake.
Just, for the record, why do all threads everywhere always say whatever the last guy did was a huge, ginormous mistake? I've been guilty of it from time to time, but I'm really starting to think about it, and it really starts to affect the readability of a thread if every other post someone says that the hinge of the battle has been foolishly thrown badly by the other side's inept commander. True errors, like flying your fleet into a shield that was clearly stated as up, or mooning the enemy beforehand because you think it's a good idea, but they have sniper rifles, sure - point those out - but all I've really done so far is pull a quick hit-and-run with a small division, I don't think it's even possible that I've made enough moves for a huge mistake yet.
Just sayin', is all.

I asked myself shortly after the new rules were present and pressed into effect, why do people keep on re-writing the damage their opponent did to them in the previous thread, espically since meterage, build times, etc., gone, that that would mean that they should no longer be so possessive.
I have an idea. I'll post more tomorrow.

Even if there isn't a meterage common sense still applies. You can end up losing badly in one battle and then if you try to bring in a big fleet people will just be like wtf?

Ok well, one idea is to have a dedicated game master oversee all of the actions, letting players on both sides appeal and point out their own opinions, but in the end the game master's final say is what goes.
Another idea is to not post any damages at all in the fleet battles, just post what is going on, and in the end when both fleets withdraw, each side comes away with their own version of how many ships they lost, and how many ships the enemy lost. They report it to the media and their goverments as such. Both sides claim the victory or whatever. Then both statistics are merged by a neutral media company and it becomes the most widely accepted version of the battle.

I prefer the first but I don't think anybody wants to deal with that shit especially when there's a giant war.

Park refers to my old idea of Battle Mods which served in such the same respect as the R&D mods did. Ruled we didnt need them, so there...
