Wanderings (Char. Dev.)

"You look like a guy who has a lot of time on his hands, who has no particular place to go, am I right?"

The serene looking gentleman turned to lock eyes with a woman just as serene looking as himself.

"Alair Rabelais, and forgive me for being presumptuous, but I can identify a wanderer when I see one."

A smug look grazed the brunette’s lips as she gave the man a polite nod in salutation.

"Got a name wanderer?"

It took a moment, but the world came rushing back when his senses finally detected a voice directed at him.

Turning in the direction of the voice, his gaze soon locked with another's. There was a dazed look on his face as his mind grasped the words the woman spoke.

"Kenshin Katarn."

He spoke the name carefully, as if contemplating the words as he said them.

The brown eyed woman offered a somewhat chaotic smile to the young man, a little unsure of his charisma.

"You don't sound too sure," she said, inclining an eyebrow before nodding slowly, a grin sneaking onto her lips.

"You look like a Kenshin."

Alair's eyes sparkled with kind warmth, clear that her personality had no ill intentions behind it.

"You're not from around here..."

The look on Alair's face showed that she was half guessing, half assuming.

Kenshin studied the woman's gaze. It might have seemed weird to do such a thing, but it was becoming a habit. The eyes said much about a person and he hadn't had time to get to know people the real way as he traveled.

It was only for a moment, not many caught him 'staring' so to speak, and that quick moment was all he needed to decide that Alair could be trusted.

"You look like a Kenshin."

A small, quiet smile tugged at his face when he heard Alair say that. He wondered if it held any meaning to her. It was just a name to him. He never cared much for what it meant though his uncle had told him many a time.

"No, I'm not from around here..."

The woman's gaze did some of its own surveying, her brown eyes hinting at speculation as she briefly spotted the chrome cylinder at Kenshin's waist, she subtly brought credit to the instrument.

"That's intriguing," she said, inquisitiveness found in her voice.

Something in the young woman's eyes carried new awareness; intimidation slithered into her brown eyes, the chrome cylinders doing.

"Where were you headed?"

Alair could have easily trailed behind the young man, following after him, but truth be told, she wanted companionship.

She was prone to those that wandered, people of that nature often stuck out at her like a sore thumb; she was one of them, a wanderer.

Kenshin saw a change in Alair's eyes as she noticed a flicker of light reflect off of the chrome cylinder under his overcloak. No doubt she now noted the lightsaber at his waist.

He had been carrying the training saber Master Wade had given him instead of the one he had constructed on the philosophy that he would protect, not kill, on the journey.

Since the training saber was less powerful, it tended to only wound. His own lightsaber remained unused so far in his pack.

Kenshin thought of removing Master Wade's saber from his side to ease her fear, but then decided against it. He'd probably need it if someone pulled a blaster on him or something.

"I'm not headed anywhere in particular. I am wandering after all."

He smiled as he realized he had just given his longest answer in the conversation so far. Talking just might come back to him.

Alair did not take much notice of the measure of conversation that had been shared on Kenshin's part, she had been much more entranced on Kenshin's existence, his wandering behavior.

"Me too," she said softly, a sort of innocence grazed her face. She felt as if she had been keeping a secret from him by not telling him of her wandering nature from the beginning.

The brunette's eyes shifted to the ground for a second as she considered her thoughts, her gaze retreating very quickly back onto Kenshin as she put her doubts to the back of her mind.

"Are you hungry? There is a café just down the street from here. I mean, if you want to go for a bite to eat."

Kenshin suddenly noticed his hunger as she mentioned food. It was something he was used to by now, not eating for periods of time, and he was able to ignore the protests of his stomach.

Well, most of the time anyway.

Though he decided it was a good time to refuel, he had just entered the city and was sufficiently lacking in one important aspect.

"Erm...Food sounds great but I'm sorta low on money so I'll have to refuse..."

He gave a somewhat embarrassed smile. It felt weird to have to depend on a thing as money when all he needed before was ability to find food.

"That's ok."

Alair's face flushed somewhat.

"You're worth the expense," she said, an introverted smile crossing her lips.

"So how about it, Mr. Katarn, can I offer you a meal? I could really use the company... Please?"

Her brown eyes were framed with a tinge of insistency as she waited for his answer.

Kenshin would normally refuse. He didn't like to feel dependant on someone else, especially to feed him.

However, he could really have used the food just then and he was afraid that his stomach would growl in protest in any given moment.

"If you insist, okay then..."

He gave a slight grin.

"I promise I'll make it up to you somehow."
