Shadows Past (Blackblade only)

Kami stepped to the door, pushing it the rest of the way open, and leaned against the frame. " I'm a pragmatic woman, Blackblade, you should remember that. I never said I wouldn't tell you, I said I can't tell you because I don't know.

" I owe another Hunter a favour, one that if I don't make good on he's going to take my head. He knew that I was connected to an Admiral in the Jurtaalian Navy and told me to bring you to Dega, that his boss' men would be waiting. I have no idea who it is, I swear."

She moved away from the cage and stood in front of Dak, jabbing him in the chest with her finger. " If you weren't a bloddy Jedi this would have all gone smoothly and we wouldn't be in this position! But no, now you've gone and made a mess of everything."

Dakkon smiled thiny.

"Personally i think i would have been in more of a mess if i wasn't.

Whos the bounty hunter then?"

" He's not important right now," She pushed her way past him and out the hatch into the corridor.Dak followed her out and she knew it was to make sure she didn't try anything.

Just outside the cockpit she knelt next to a pannel on the floor and opened the compartment to the engine. Kami looked up at him as he stood over her. " Look, you don't want to go to Dega, and I reall REALLY don't want to go to Dega, especially now. The only chance we've got is if we can get the God Killer's autopilot to disengage without detonating the autodestruct. Better to get this over with now instead of waiting until we're too close to Dega space."

Lowering herself into the cramped compartment she reached for her tools. " So are you going to help me or just stand there?"

"I'm not fussed about going to Dega actually..."

He sighed, knelling down beside her.

"What do you need me to do?"

A lamp came hurtling up from the compartment then, Dak's hand catching it an instant before it would have hit him in the face. " You can start by pointing that down here, I'm gonna need both hands for this."

In the shadows of the engine compartment Kami grumbled as she unscrewed ametal plate that would give her direct access to the hyperdrive. She had spent months designing every failsafe on the God Killer, meticulous planning and countless hours spend in the cramped engine space. And here she was now, all because of Dak, tearing into it to shut it all down.

Her eyes scanned the many wires and parts that made up the hyperdrive. It should be easy enough to shut it down. All she had to do was-

" God damn!!" She screamed as a jolt of energy travelled through the screwdriver she held and up her arm. The pain sent her standing up so quickly she banged her head on the floor above her.

" What is it?" Dak asked.

Kami rubbed at the sore spot on her head and started to lift herself out of the compartment. " I forgot about that one. Never thought I'd actually be trying to bipass it." She sat on the edge of the hole, scowling at Dak. " I've hunted a lot more dangerous people that you, Blackblade, and I had designed this ship to be guarded against their kind. Splicers, hacks, brutes that would sooner tear the engine to shreds instead of trying to shut her down.

" The engine is protected by an energy feed back. Once Hyperdrive is engaged if anyone would attempt to even touch the engine it would send a shock of electricity through them. Just a minor one at first, but then the rest of the trap is set off and to touch it again would send about 50,000 volts through you."

Her scowl turned into a smirk. " What to test it to see if I'm lying?"

Dak sat back on a nearby chair smiling.

"More dangerous than me and yet i'm the one who escapes."

He fiddled with the lamp.

"So what do you propose we do? You're the one who doesn't want to go to Dega."

She got to her feet, sliding the floor panel back in place. " I have no problem going to Dega, but something tells me you're not going to allow yourself be handed over without a fight, and that's what has got me wanting to be as far away from there as possible."

Kami shook out her hand that had gone numb from the shock in an attempt to get some feeling back in it. She folded her arms over her chest and leaned against the wall across from Dak. " Doesn't matter any more I suppose. I've had a good run and I knew it couldn't last forever. Sooner or later someone was going to get the better of me and the God Killer. Just stinks that it had to be you."

Dakkon shrugged, leaning back.

"I know i'm not going to have much trouble getting out of there. Who knows, maybe if you stick with me i'll save your ass, just like back on Paris."

She knew he was trying to gode her, to get a rise out of her, and like it or not he had always known what buttons to push with her. To bring up that incident back at boot camp...

Kami pushed off from the wall, the scowl on her face seeming something permanent. " Bite me, Blackblade. You were wanted alive, but when the fighting starts I'll take you down myself if I have to."

She turned on her heals and started for her quarters.

He laughed out loud as she stormed off.

"Are you kidding? You couldn't beat me back on Paris! How do you expect to be able to do it now?"
