They are less comparable then you guys realize. Neither of them deal with science that is actually science, they're just 'Hey, what if this actually worked?'.
Each universe has its own set of 'Hey, what if...'s. Each universe has established reactions between its all of its 'Hey, whats if...'s. But the universes have not established what happens between another univers's 'Hey what if...'s and theirs for obvious reasons. So its pretty tough to say.
Besides, whose to say the universes woulden't get along?
Hey, Star Trek actually partially hits Warp Theory, unlike Star Wars which is all 'Well, if this worked...'. Anti-matter can be created thanks to a super-collider, we just haven't found a way of harvesting them yet. And super-colliders are extremely epenisve to run untop of that. A matter/anti-matter reaction would create a great deal of energy that, if properly harvested, could be used.
Warp travel isn't 'We make a bubble to protect ourself from above-lightspeed. Warp is folding the fabric of space itself to change the distance between two points in space. Imagine having a huge field, and then having the field move into a hill with a tunnel in between. That shortens the distance you would have to travel.
I hope someone else understands my crappy analogy...
But basically, it's not that you are moving faster, it is that you are moving a shorter distance.
I don't know how Star Trek does it, but that's Warp. Or at least the Theory as it was presented to me.
I could rant on with my geeky, scientific explanations...but for the love of God/Allah/Buddah/any other religious figure dont' let me rant on further. Stupid science project and it making me learn all this crap and my desire for people knowing things...
the only thingabout warp travel is that its impossible. Becuase it IS based on creating a bubble around the ship, I just dont recal the exactness of the entire thing. All I remember about it is that once you went into warp, youd never be able to leave becuase you would never be anle to shut the engines off. You just could never send information forwards into the bubble or backwards becuase everything would be frozen or some such thing. Been forever since I read up on the subject though.
