Ok, so unless you're one of these weird modern people who haven’t a clue what xyzzy or a text adventure is, you know what to do. I'll be the narrator for awhile, then we'll let someone else try. Anyone can post actions, when I get to the thread again I'll just compile them all.
You have entered the haunted house at the prodding of your friends, teacher, ex-girlfriend, and dog's water bowl. All around you is darkness. To the west you can barely see what appears to be a clock.

You take a step west in the darkness, left hand out infront to keep you from hitting a wall. After a few hesitant steps, your hand touches what feels like (after a moment of exploration) the face of a grandfather clock. Maybe you should turn your flashlight on.

You turn your flashlight on, illuminating your face with a blinding white light (and also effectively killing what little night vision you had). Stupid thing, you had it backward.
With the flashlight now pointing the correct direction, you blink your eyes trying to get rid of the spots. Before you is what appears to be a clock of ancient age. It is not running. To the south is a wall; to the east is pitch-blackness.

With wavering footsteps and a quaking heart, you hesitantly step east. Your flashlight bobs ahead of you, revealing a very expensive looking wood panel floor. You cast the flashlight beam about, and discover you are in an enormously large hallway. A rich, luxurious carpet that runs down the center of the hall covers the wood panel flooring there. To the east the hallway continues on. To the North, a door stands open.

You step into the door, and immediately feel very small. The beam of your flashlight does not penetrate very far into the darkness; you see nothing but a carpeted floor extending in all directions. An eerie creak is heard as you step in, the floor must not be secured very well here. Behind you is an open door.
