Transponders?
(I had made the assumption that the Anthos fleet, for obvious reasons, would have shut their transponders off, though.)
Actually, come to think of it... with a transponder, isn't a ship queried by another, and then the computer/operator sends (or does not send, depending) his transponder info..?

That is one theory...
The other is that a transponder constantly broadcasts its identity... at all times.
Either way...

Heh, stupid transponders . . .the swarm never used them, we were cool.

Perrin-I stand by the first one, the one about the 25 000 mines and stuff, because I realized that these aren't normal conditions, normal conditions are when there are ships larger then 4m in the area.
Beff: I just assumed they would have transponders on, because I also called the Anthos fleet.

And what do they say about 'assume'?
Something about making an ass out of you and me.

Yes and there is a lot of stuff thrown around here about how what is unsaid is as important as what is said.
And if you forget to say something and another player just happens to take advantage of the fact that it was not said then they can play a logical and legal move based off of that fact Beff.
Like saying that shields were said to be up so they were not.
There are a lot of assumtions made around here beff and the people making the assumtion to their advantage have no trouble doing so.
They did not say that they were running on stealth to hide their arrival?
If a fleet is not stating that they are bothering to hide their presence then why not posibly have a transponder signal?

I merely assumed (yes, assumed) that you had your IFF (Identity Friend Foe) transponder on, as do all ships. You never stated otherwise, so I said it. *shrug*

Maybe it's standard procedure for Anthos ships to travel without their IFF transponders active, Vonta. But you haven't read any of their RPs, so you wouldn't have any idea.
Or maybe, Beff assumed that you guys would be smart enough to realize that a third party fleet which has several stealth R&Ds under its belt wouldn't be foolish enough to turn the bloody things on.
But then, ORS always had had a way of knowing exactly what ships are, and whose on them, despite no previous knowledge of said ships...

We have said this before in relation to the war threads. If you aren't in the thread, stay out of the OOC.
Next person to do so, without a valid reason (which is entirely based on my judgement) will be punished.
Otherwise this is going to get messy, as usual.

I think we'll the transponder thing slide. I didn't mention having them turned off, and as the device is usually on, Griff was free to identify the fleet as he saw fit. Unfortunately he saw fit to instantaneously identify the fleet of a small government that has never strayed outside of its own sector, or engaged in a military move against anyone else. I would have appreciated a little bit of confusion about our identity, or some such nicety, but it's water over the dam now.
Griff, if you could answer the questions I stated above about the position of your fleet, I'd be appreciative.
