It happened again. Here on Naboo this time. What was I thinking.

Naboo is nice, if you like nice. It's always unnerved me.

Maybe it's the Jedi. I know they flourish here. Maybe that's why he's here. It's why I'm here.

I came across this job rather by chance. At least...it seemed like it. And now, here I am. Tracking another aquisition. Sith, this time.

Or something like it, at any rate. The file was vague, with very little history. Otherwise it seemed like the usual story.

Force user, gone rogue, and for one reason or another, someone wanted him stopped. That's where I come in. Well, that's where me and a small fortune come in.

Waiting, waiting bothers me. If I'm waiting, then the mark might be doing. Not a good equation. Especially when the target knows you're coming.

He had to know his masters would dig me up for this run, afterall...When the best go bad, you need the worst to get 'em.

~Bleep Bleep~

The comm. My contact. He says he's Jedi, and the background checks out. Normally I wouldn't involve a force-head in something like this, but, when on Naboo...

Just coming into Theed? Perfect. Leaves me enough time to strap up...

It was mid-day, an open market, and bustling with a hundred busy shoppers, searching for that perfect buy. Mine was already allocated. I had told the Jedi where I would be and when, and he seemed more then willing to meet me any odd place I'd like, just so long as it was as soon as possible. Which left me here...

I hate places like this. Some people like crowded areas, usually the type with more bravado then brains. Cowards usually, with something to hide, not your usual Jedi ploy. Who knows, maybe my source was slipping. The darkside can be a dangerous enemy, but an excellent allie when dealing with those jedi who were being seduced by a power no one can really control.

I had an excellent vantage point, so I saw him even before feeling the ripples. Tucked between to open displays, I had found a perfect little spot in this chaotic mess. I even resisted the urge to mask my presence, rather use this moment to test my contact, and keep one step ahead.

He stepped past me twice before managing to locate me.

I could see it in his eyes from the word go. This was a man clearly struggling with the darkside, trained to resist it, but driven by the thirst for power.

A reason, perhaps, for his odd manner.

He had contacted me through another contact, one I trusted among others in my loosely strung network. This means two things; One, someone I trust, thinks this fellow is worth my time, and two, he obviously has a few freinds of his own in the underworld, and has more then a clue of who I am.

A thing like this could work to my advantage. Afterall, reputation can carry someone a long way in the right places.

Expressions only went so far, relating to a Shistavanen. Clad in the usual garb of a Jedi, I'm sure he had a lightsaber tucked under those robes somewhere.

"Hhhyou isss Pike?" related the wolfman in broken basic.

"Tha's wha' mah mom call'd me. Yer mus' be Sruik?" I found the accent very appropriate for the occasion. Don't let 'em think yer smarter then they are.

"Hhhyou iss after Rhirar. I kknow wheer he iss." This time with paranoid looks over his shoulder.

A chuckle, because it sets nervous people on edge, a slanted grin, and a nod. That's all it ever takes, too cool for the Void.

"Hhhyou wantss to kknow?"

Shrug, act like you're disinterested. Just think, it's none of your concern if this guy tells you anything or not, there's always a back entrance. "Yah tellin' or jus' wastin' mah time," now loose the grin, "I hate mah time wasted."

Growling low, the wolfman leans in closer, but not too close... he knows his range. Now I slant an eyebrow, look a tad perplexed and let this furball think he has the moment...and see if he takes it.

"Then I ssshow you". The words come out muffled, more of a growl. Then it's clear. Part set up, part stall. This would take some mulling over...when the moment is free.

For now I'm more concerned with the wolfman, and the spike I feel coming through the force, anger. Luckily though, no motions follow it, and it's another round of talking.

"He's here then," I grin, knowing full well that the aquisition is well away from the area, likely getting farther. "An' yer not jus' stallin' me?"

That got dog face. His ears perk forward, lips curl back on k-9 teeth... He's angry, and he's surprised. A blind worrt could tell.
For whatever reason, this daka actually believed that I would buy his story, his act.

Like a fire alarm, a warning breaks through the Force, an impression of a hand reaching for a lightsaber.

The next few moments are a blur of action. It starts as the wolfman goes for his saber, hanging left of his belt. An opening comes before me, and before thinking, I act. My right hand lunges out and grabs the wolfmans hand as it closes on the lightsaber. My left goes for the trusty Thunderer hanging at my hip... Too quick, the wolfman makes to use my trick against me and grab for my pistol hand.

Inspiration comes in flashes. Use your head.

One massive headbutt connects with the wolfs snout, and I feel fangs graze my scalp... then snap and shatter. Extending myself to the Force, I trace thin lines around his form, lift and twist... In one motion effectively planting the wolfs back against the wall, my blaser pressing against his belly in an almost concealed fashion and his lightsaber pressed down against his thigh, should he make to ignite it.

The brilliant part, no one seems the wiser, as if our second long melee went totally unnoticed.

Or did it?

"Tell me where, tell me now." A growl through my clenched teeth, now putting a slight emphasis upon my intimidation sending ripples through the Force.

"hhI don't kknow.." he snarls, ears going flat back against his head, "...wass jusst ssent to disstract you." Now emanations of fear, trepidation. Second-guessing himself.

"Then yer no good to me.", as I apply pressure to the trigger and press his lightsaber harder into his thigh.

Though I'm no authority on their physiology, I was pretty sure they'd have something like the femoral artery in most bipeds.

"No no...wait." Hardly a hiss through the mutts broken face, "The woodss. North."

It was all he'd give, or all he knew. I could feel it pouring off of him like sweat, he wanted nothing more then for me to let him alone with his crumbling dignity.

I grinned, he wasn't my target, he wasn't worth killing. And I told him as much.

It was an audible sigh, relief...He felt safer in that moment. That moment before I ignited his lightsaber and drove it through the rear quarter of his thigh.

A yelp, a release of the trigger, and the wolf was down gripping his leg like it was cramped...and I was gone. Vanished into the crowd, subtle impulses telling those who saw me that I was nothing of note, and that the wolf was the real concern... Humans.

Just after dawn, and Adrian was in his speeder, making his way towards the presence he had felt earlier. It was hard, what with there being so many Jedi centred in Theed, but once he’d got out of the city the way became clearer, and he could drive faster and with more confidence.

Before long Adrian felt the presence growing stronger, and he began to slow his landspeeder down. Coming around a small clump of trees, he saw in the distance a hill, with two people standing on it, talking.

Adrian turned off the ‘speeder, got out, and started walking towards the hill.

Kamon cringed. He knew the feeling and knew it well. He had lost his parents after all.

"I am sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I I had known, I wouldn't have asked. No need to speak on it further."

He looked off into the distance.

"Last time I spoke to you, I was but a Rogue Padawan. Since then, I have been promoted to Rogue Knight. What of yourself? Has anything else happened in the time since last we met?"

The Jedi Master was silent for a few moments, almost as though he hadn't heard the question. His attention had wandered, something that showed just how much Hanna's death had affected him. He just had that image of her in his mind, and even the fantasy future he had thought of, with the two of them raising twin children.

"Sorry, I guess I was...distracted."

Kahn offered an apologetic smile, though it wasn't very strong.

"Congratulations on your promotion; I'm not sure if I was a Master when we first met? Other than that, and...well, nothing much else has happened."

Through the Force, Kahn sensed a familiar presence. It only took him a moment to identify it as Adrian Trench, one of his former Padawans.

Kamon smiled.

"No need to be sorry. I find that talking about things that make you sad helps comfort you. I believe you were a Master when last we talked. But that was a while ago."

Kamon looked down the hill, when he felt a Force presence approaching.

"Who approaches?"

"Adrian Trench, a young man who was a Padawan of mine. He's since been awared the rank of Knight."

Kahn explained in more focused tone, the far-away look gone from his eyes. It felt good to be able to rely on concrete facts, to be able to let the feelings over Hanna's death go numb. Better not to think about it now; he wasn't ready yet, to dwell on it for long periods of time; it just hurt too much.

As the younger Jedi approached, Kahn called out to him in greeting.

"Adrian! It's good to see you again, Padawan."
