I don't know "s'Il", maybe it involves the use of weapons that pose a threat to you and everyone around you in residential areas by inexperienced losers.
I am like Kas in the fact that I've shot guns, I own guns, and I know how to use them. Which is where this whole thing lies. I know how to use them, and I know gun safety, and I haven't seemed to nail a single person yet. As far as animals, I do not go out a shoot the woodland creatures. I go out with my friends and we set up targets and whatnot to just have fun. You don't have to kill something to have fun shooting.
If people have the technical know-how to build something as opposed to Joe Fuck-all, then I say go for it. Hell, the Universtiy here is building a railgun. If you've got the credentials to make it, know how to build it, and how to operate it, then I say go for it.
As far as 'inexperienced losers', therein lies the problem. There ARE those of us out here that do in fact know what we're doing, so I don't really see where you get off calling me an ass-clown bullshitter without prior knowledge as to who I am, what I do, and what I know.
For me, it's a few things. First and foremost protection. I'm a 5 foot 2 waif of a woman, and while I am strong from years working on a ranch and other outside activities, I'm not a guy, and I'm certainly not as powerful as one. Does that mean I'm going to shoot someone in the face if he tries to rob me? Of course not. The last thing I would ever want to do is pull a gun on someone - even if I'm being robbed. BUT, if it ever came to me or him where I would invariably lose my life if I didn't pull the trigger, I'm sorry. I look out for number one. He shouldn't be in my house in the first place as it is.
Second, I enjoy going out to shoot targets; to practice my aim, and see just how good I can get at something. I do the same thing with archery. I have two compound bows, and I love the challenge of seeing how close to the bullseye I can get. It's about pushing myself to do better.
Third, collecting guns is like any other hobby. No, I don't live and breath guns and firearms, but I do enjoy meeting other people with the same interest in guns as me and talking with them about it. Much like you may have hobbies and interests, I do to. A majority of those that collect guns are some of the safest people on earth. Are there people that don't know what they're doing even though they own a gun? Of course. You have idiots in every society. But you can't judge a group of people who know what they're doing based on the actions of some that think they're 'cool' yet have no knowledge of what they're doing.
I mean, I collect swords. I don't really ever plan on using them, but damn they look pretty snazzy mounted on the wall, and yes, they could be considered a form of protection.
I grew up in a navy family, moving all over the country. I know weapons, and I know weapon safety. I know how to handle myself around guns and the like. I'm not inexperienced in the least, so to be lumped into a group of pretty much thugs who think they're cool by owning a gun is a little insulting. Did any of you stop to think that maybe I know what I'm talking about, and I honestly want to know why some of you think this is stupid? All I've read so far is 'this is so stupid', but I have yet to hear your reasonings why.
I've done nothing but give you all logical and definitive explanations for how I think. And somehow I got called names and told to get a life? If you can't think of anything intelligent and pertaining to the discussion, don't start throwing baseless insults around.
