Telan, you make numerous reference to democracy in the same breath as you mention Communism and anarchy. Are you saying that Democracy is akin to those systems of government? And if so, what form of government do you find agreeable.

Democracy, for all of its flaws, is in my opinion, the best form of government for the people of any country. Churchill said "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others."

Anyway, just interested.

Yes very good points, but many Finnish soldiers weren`t so happy when they had to turn against the one`s they fought with and I myself thank for the Germans for all their war effort that they dif with Finland because who knows what might have happened? Russia could have attacked at as the second time, but back stabbing germany was inevetable if my country was going to keep it`s frredom cause SU wouldn`t have let go.... I wouldn`t be living in this place I think if that had happened... Don`t know what had happened if we had fough till the end, but in the end we would have been over run by the bigger neighbour...

The main reason for our back stabbing could have been that Finland was about 100 years under the Russians control and before that under sweden, we had our own culture, languange and history. We weren`t going to give up the land that was our`s by right and finns had fought against each others for it...alltough the others were supporting Communist ideals, but because they were mostly workes and normal people who saw a better future for themselves in it(I mean the finnish civil war in 1917 when the communist were taking over russia, but that is something which doesn`t seem bright in any country`s history when brothers kill brothers)

A man once said I will not trade one tyrant 3000 miles away for 3000 tyrants one milae away - -at least I know this way who my target is.

Democracy and communism are the worst yes, I prefer Monarchy, totalitarianism, autocracy, and true republic - -where the Intelligentsia are chosen by the people and they decide how things are run based on their own minds not the whim of the masses.

Ignorant - hmm.. Interesting choice of words considering every one of my arguments has had an intellectual background and yours is little more than vicious name calling. ignorance is by definition a lack of knolwedge - I have knolwedge I use. Because I different insights from the same facts you may look at you call my ignorant.

Something tells me you personify that word.

Well, yes, but most people are kind of flabbergasted when it comes to defending the Allied powers against the Axis because most people in their right minds can tell which side was good or which side was evil.

Well, thats probably a poor choice of words. Most people can tell which side was killing people in the millions and trying to take over other countries (and not using imperialism, like you're supposed to ;)) and which side was not.

I saw a most interesting documentary about the Waffen SS on the History Channel and I never knew that at the end of the war, the Germans were even recruiting Muslims into their SS ranks.

Indeed - - actually, most of the SS divisions in the 30 series were recruited from external nations, satellite states, or outside nations. The Muslim units had a dress cap - - a fez in olive drab with the death's head on its front. There was also a British unit of approximately six men on the Russian Front, one of whom eventually became an SS Sergeant and was awarded the Iron Cross, 1st Class. The largest majority of SS foreign volunteers - - and they truly were Volunteers - - came from Russia, mostly used to suppress partisans and fight against Communism. Unfortunately for the war effort, Hitler never supported such moves thinking them subhuman and reduced a pool of almost a million Russians who wanted to fight Stalin to barely a hundred thousand.

here's some shit to think about.

Democracy and communism are the worst yes, I prefer Monarchy, totalitarianism, autocracy, and true republic - -where the Intelligentsia are chosen by the people and they decide how things are run based on their own minds not the whim of the masses.

WOW!

Intelligentsia - The intellectual elite of a society.

Monarch - A sole and absolute ruler.

Totalitarianism - Of, relating to, being, or imposing a form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed: “A totalitarian regime crushes all autonomous institutions in its drive to seize the human soul” (Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.).

Autocracy - Government by a single person having unlimited power; despotism.

totalitarianism has to be favorite, second to autocracy. *sarcasm

OMG! it makes sense!

i have a funny time comprehending how you think a monarch would be the best form of government when history has shown us that ALL monarch's are doomed to failure and/or be corrupted by power (similar to all political offices, the difference here is that in democracy the people can oust the seat, a good example would be the Philippines right now). so professor... history has shown that when the uprisings do occur (because they will) it takes decades for any country to recover from the oppression of the fallen monarch. with a democratic form of government it doesn’t fuck its citizens ass backwards to far.

monarch vs. democracy

im thinking demo.

Seriously though, you compare Bush to Hitler AND call yourself an honourable man in the same post?

i totally agree where kraken is going with this. i didnt vote bush, but im damn gonna take his ass over hitler. honestly, i can live with another year and a few months. if it was hitler... i dont think i'd last the night.

"AMERICA FUCK YEAH! COMING TO SAVE THE MOTHERFUCKING DAY YEAH!"

btw, i find it funny how your against communism yet for a monarchy. weird? or its just the drugs.

Actually, Royalists versus Communists is not uncommon.

At the time of the Russian revolution there was a large minority of Royalists who fought for the "White" Russians against the Red Russians.

Anyway:

Plato agrees with Telan, after a fashion, saying the best form of government is a benevolent dictatorship. Of course the key word here is benevolent. Very rarely (though it can happen) does someone with complete and utter authority not abuse their power. And even if you do manage to find a benevolent dictator (or king or whatever) there is no guarantee their sucessor will be have the same qualities.

So, I agree with Recon's points. A democracy allows for a stable transfer of power, a proven method that allows to people to remove poor leaders, and generally allows them more freedom to live their everyday lives.
