This thread is for the discussion of the takeovers of Space Stations. Rico recently took The Forge, which brings this to surface. There are 3 different items that need to be decided upon, and all are important enough that I think everyone should have a chance to stick their oar in.

1 - Resources. Planets taken are generally taken for resources. Once someone owns a significant portion of space it can be assumed that they have heavy influence over any planets nearby, eg, it could be considered that their government owns that area. Kind of like how the US owns Ca... never mind. ;) Space Stations, obviously, do not generate these kinds of resources. In fact, it could be assumed that they could actually remove resources from a group’s pool.

2 - Destructibility. Planets, save for non-canon creations, have always been protected against being destroyed. Would this same protection extend to space stations? This also brings up Weapons. About a month after I joined TRF Centerpoint was ruled as being ownable, but its gravity well generator not usable. If a station is destructible then it would make sense that its weapons would be usable, correct? THen comes the question of meterage, and whether or not a station should occupy meterage if its weapons are enabled.

3 - Movement. I'm not sure if this issue has come up yet, but I'm certain that moving stations could create problems in the future. It would be a great boon to the owner, and a pain for everyone else. Especially if weapons are enabled.

Personally, I think it should run this way. Stations generate no meterage, are destructible, have nominal defense weapons (no centerpoint uber crap), are movable, and should require a hefty extra amount of words to capture (as Rico did).

Opinions?

If they're canon, they should be indestructubile, just like the canon planets.

Othwerise, sure. Except the hefty. Math faction, yo.

Exactly.

Not true, numerous famous stations have massive income/resource flows. But, if we start factoring that stuff in we'll have to rule on each on individually, and thats just fucked.

I believe they should be indestructable, generate no meterage, has regular weaponary (no ubershite), requires extra word count and are moveable but any significant movement (say, leaving the system) requires a battleground RP simply so that the community at large knows that it has moved.

I too agree that canon stations should be indestructible, although ones you make up should be able to blow up. We can assume there are regular stations all over the place, we're just talking about ones worthy enough to be put on a list with planets, like really big ones or ones with special purposes, right?

We're talking almost exclusively about currently existing Canon stations that were not destroyed as part of SW history.

The Wheel, Centerpoint, hell, even the Astoria could count i guess!

For planets we just assume that each planet generates a nominal amount of money, people, and raw resources. Obviously there is a difference between say, Tatooine and Coruscant in terms of money and people, etc. A Station would only generate people and money, since you probably don't want to be mining it.

However, when you look at Rico, for example, who wants his station listed as hidden. Obviously, when a station is hidden, it's not going to be generating a lot of money via trade. And since he has to provide the manpower, it's basically a big ship.

Not that I plan on resurrecting the thread again anytime soon, but could Helix be granted an exception?

Hidden space stations introduce a whole new problem. With regards to canon space stations, though... I believe they should be treated as planets. I think I asked about the Wheel a while back, intending to take it as a planet, and was told no, stations were off limits.

Without meterage and all that crap, though, I see small issue with stations. Perhaps some simple regulations like, "Civilian" stations generate some revenue (this would include, say, the Wheel). They would be assumed to be lightly armed for defensive reasons and would be a known presence. "Military" stations would be more heavily armed, hidden, but also a draw on resources. This would include Rico's use of the Forge (as I understand it).

Not sure about destructibility... my first thought would be civilian stations, no, military stations yes.

Ok then, the timing is sketchy on this, but would Hosk Station be considered an space station?

I'm pretty sure the Helix is an extinuating circumstance, which you covered when you first applied. Remember, the only reason you got denied was because of group number limits...
