But thats when the dust settles, you'd need to rebuild everything. Regrow everything. And ORS Moral.. its like if DC got nuked, people would be sad and angry.
Rule change Idea
Except most of the ship got destroyed on the shields. So maybe a 2km thing.
The shields wouldn't destroy 10km of it. It would melt it, maybe slag 500 meters of it. Maybe vaporize a few dozen meters at most.
I dunno, shields are pretty tough, and planetary shields are made to withstand a heck of a lot of bombardment, as well as asteroids...
A Gencore two, as stated in the rules, can withstand a DS shot I believe.
They are capable of abosrbing energy, but the gravity's pull on the ship would cripple the shield, its just more force going into it.
There's also force pushing the ship away. Think about it. Two objects impact. You have gravity pulling it, you have the normal force pulling it away. It makes the two objects not move except for the destruction of the SSD because of impact on shield.
Pushing away?
Well it would be if it was imbalanced. When two objects collide or are acting on each other physically you get the Normal force which is supposed to balance out the gravity. Otherwise the object would accelerate.
Another reason the SSD would break through minimally harmed would be principle. A turbolaser by nature is a peircing weapon. A superlaser is just a turbolaser over a million times, designed to peirce straight threw to the planets center, then ignite the core and explode it. So, naturally, a shield would be designed to take strain in one spot for an instant. An SSD falls on it, strain over an entire grid, until the shield collapses.
