Sadly, it is canon. Unless we chuck out the entire Corellian trilogy (which I am strongly in favour of!). It did happen... and yes, the author is an idiot.

I thought canon applied only to the movies... o_O and that all the books were considered EU

No way. Otherwise I'd have been finished with the Shipping Database a long time ago...

You're right, in part. It's all canon, but...

Movies supercede everything else. So if a book disagrees with a movie, the movie wins.
Books supercede everything BUT movies, i.e. games, comics, etc., with the most "serious" books being more important... I don't think, for example, Galaxy of Fear is really "canon", but the books that contribute to the main timeline ARE.
And then there are games and comics, which are more or less "selective canon"

Which is why I am fearing if Lucas decides to go with this TV show idea with SW. We might as well chuck the entire EU in the trash if that happens.

And Iron Chef does rule. Can't wait for the American version to come on.

I always excluded games and comics from the list of canon sources, for the most part. I accept the characters they introduce, but for the sake of gameplay, video games tend to make up a lot of shit. However, a lot of stuff mentioned in games are added to such sources as the Star Wars Encyclopedia, so it is really debatable.

I agree though that any SW TV show is going to fuck with continuity and probably nix a lot of stuff considered canon already in the EU.

Probably the comic taken as an exception to Dameon's statement would be the Dark Empire comics. Everyone considers the World Devastators, Soveriegn Star Destroyers, etc., to be canon, which is where they originated.

Yeah... games and comics generally end up as "selective canon". But Crakcer is right in that most of the Dark Horse Comics are "true" canon - Marvel, on the other hand...

I heard from a friend Mara Jade was a force vampire and before she met Luke Skywalker on Myrkr, she became of using the Force not often. When she met Luke, she regained her abilities by absorbing her hatred against Luke about what he did to ruin her life.

I noticed some mistakes on Ship Database about Mon Calamarian Cruisers should have their proton torp launchers where praken missed them, no offence praken.

This holds true only to a certain extent with games like XWA, XvT etc. That being that the ranges have been simplified (read: shortened) for ease of play. So i consider the stuff in the flying games extremely canon, whereas RPGs/other shit is generally quite dubious.
