Ruusan: Journey to the Valley of the Jedi
  • Posted On: Jun 25 2003 2:32am
The wind swirled around his brown jedi cloaks, filling him with the gentle currents of the force. This planet, while alien to him, seemed to resonate with the will of the force. His mind drifted to over a year ago, when the dark forces had once again swept across the galaxy. His Jedi Praxeum had fought gallantly but in the end, they were outnumbered. Many of the ruling council had perished, while some fled.

Odon himself had rallied the jedi, allowing a core group to escape the sith encirclement of Ossus. The brave fighters made their way off planet, leaving all they had behind. Yet with the force, they were far from unprepared. After an exhaustive search for a new homeworld, they decided to reclaim the world of Ruusan; the ancient home of the Valley of the Jedi.

Now, one year later he stood in the midst of this great valley, utterly awed at the history it held. He looked at his rag-tag group of surviviors, numbering about a 100, pleased to see them confident and strong. Letting his voice carry over the gentle breeze he spoke.

We have endured tragedy but as you see, we are now home. Through the force and our efforts, we shall resurrect this great planet.

Turning to Dyani Spark, he spoke affectionately.

My dear, prepare the younger ones for the night. I must speak to the knights.

((OOC: Sorry to post here when I'm not invited but Kas Katta said that you have to FIND the planet Ruusan first before you can do anything with it...look at the OOC Forum, Planet List...))

(You should also talk to Gash Jiren. Last I recall, a Super Star Destroyer by name of the Tachyon crashed into the Valley of the Jedi.)

OOC: Bah, humbug! I'm so confuzzled about the new arrangements and switching whatnots, I still don't see why we couldn't use the same board, the blue here hurts my eyes lol. But I'm gonna post anyway (Its Luis D'Nubra btw lol ^_^)
Can't we just say we found the planet after a while, rather than go through the whole sequence of finding it, landing on it and whatnot and get straight to the good bits?

IC:
Luis groaned as he sat down, battle weary and tired. He was still in shock, the attack on Ossus, the Praxeum falling, it was all so sudden. Now this, Ruusan, was to be their new planet of residence. He rolled his lightsaber back and forth between his hands. He had never seen so much action in one go before and his entire body ached from combat.

Although he was tired, he would have to get up again. The casualty numbers were high, and many jedi were wounded or dying. And it was his obligation as a Jedi to help save them. He immediatly began assiting the Healers in their quest to save more lives. All the while, looking to see whether his friends made it out, in particular, Master Ryuune and his Padawan Ariel.

OOC: No problem. One of my members is going to post a flashback scene, of the finding of Ruusan. Luis, it was unavoidable. TGC owners were not helping us grow.

Gazing affectionately over the assembled students, Jedi Master Odon Baas watched with pride, as each and every member looked expectantly into his emerald green eyes. Many of these young Jedi had lost friends and loved ones during the carnage on Ossus, yet their resilience through the force shone bright. His mind drifted through the elusive fabric of time, once again visualizing the immense coalition of darkness which had been arrayed against his Jedi Praxeum.

His heart went out to his old friend Atonai, who in the flames and death of that day, disappeared, yet somehow; Odon knew the old man still lived. That fateful day, many of the Jedi council had perished, leaving the survivors determined to reorganize and make headway in their new endeavor. Standing upon a small precipice, he spoke warmly to the dedicated few who had made this long journey.

The task before us is monumental, with the future in the hands of each and every Jedi gathered here today. This is no different than the great purges of the past, except we were able to keep our core group intact. I know many of you mourn the death of friends and masters but fear not young Jedi; for they are now one with the force.

Ruusan was vastly different from Ossus, consisting of a vast forested region, which teemed with life, blanketing their combined powers with the soothing presence of the force. His mind shifted to old lessons, spoken in the rough and commanding voice of Mace Windu. According to his former master, Ruusan was the site of a decisive battle between the Jedi and sith.

This exact location had seen the death of thousands of combatants, each pitted against the other in a historic duel of light and dark, which, according to the Jedi archives, seemingly ended the sith order. However, Odon knew from his history that Darth Bane had survived, passing his sick teachings down through the millennia, until the appearance of the infamous Darth Sidious.

These old memories stirred the wound of his master’s death but in a sense it gave Odon a new and rejuvenated perspective. His Jedi Praxeum would reclaim this sacred planet, forging a new Jedi order, erasing the mistakes of the past and setting the standard for the future. The first week on Ruusan had been spent exploring and excavating the vast Valley of the Jedi. This fabled site was well hidden, giving the new Praxeum a strategic location; affording them protection and offering a new setting in which to train future generations.

The valley was a myriad of structures and domiciles, each surrounding a central temple which reached for the heavens, culminating in an immense spire. The spacious courtyard was anointed with statues of old Jedi masters long dead, silent sentinels and keepers of this ancient land. The civilian staff that had made the escape with them had begun immediate renovation, using construction droids to repair and erect elaborate new structures, keeping in mind the design which already existed.

After 6 months hard work, a vast city emerged, integrating current technology with an ancient blueprint. The spacious new living quarters for the padawans and knights was promptly dubbed Knossa Inn, a reminder of the past facility which they had lived in. The remaining council members had taken residence in the main temple, astonished to find many ancient scrolls and archives of the ancient Jedi sect. With purpose, they instructed their Jedi academic to integrate these artifacts into their existing system. Once again his mind returned to the present and those who listened to his words.

We must continue to train and prepare the younger generation for their duty. Our responsibilities never end and as such, neither will our eternal struggle with darkness. I am proud of each and every one of you, confident that together we can make Ruusan the pinnacle of Jedi studies. These long months have been trying but look at what we have created in such a short time. Use the force as your ally and I am certain that we will soon find the path we once traveled.

Igniting his lightsaber, he snapped the brilliant green blade in a salute position, showing his fellow Jedi respect and trust. As they made their way to their respective duties, he once again wrapped his tall frame in his earth tone cloak, slowly making his way to the temple for the first meeting of the Jedi Council on Ruusan.

Hanix stood up and bowed to Master Odon. He watched the others leave and sat back down. The memories of the attack were forged into his mind and would never leave. Hanix sat down and went into a meditative state. He was trying to forget what had happened, but it was all he could see.

Hanix's dream seemed like reality. He was reliving the experience on Ossus. He saw himself stand up and begin to shout at his men. Hanix was rallying them, trying to get them to keep hope in their cause. He new it had worked. He saw his men fighting along side of him.

Hanix kept fighting, but his men were dying. They dropped one by one under the power of the Sith, but they fought with utter most bravery. He was proud that all of his men had fought so hard and wished as honorable a death. He was able to fight off the Sith and was able to lead some of his men to safety.

Hanix watched on as he fought to keep his men safe. He couldn't ask for his men to do anything else, for they had fought hard. Hanix got hit in the arm by a lightsaber. He was healing himself while still fighting. He force pushed the sith and boarded a shuttle, along with his surviving men.

The shuttle took off and was able to get passed the Sith's war ships. They went into lightspeed and in no time they were at Ruusan. Hanix came out of his meditative stance and felt his newly healed arm. Hanix stood up, and went off to his new duties.

Vince was still reeling from the past. The Sith had overwhelmed them, and his Padawan Sole had been killed in the attack. Thankfully, they had managed to escape (at least some of them). Now they were on Ruusan, taking care of the wounds of the survivors. Vince looked over at Ruis, wondering if he knew about Master Ryunne.

Of course, Vince didn't know about his Master either. This was the second time that Atonai had been killed (presumably) and Vince was fast growing tired of it. But Vince knew he had a new job to tackle: the new scrolls. As the Academic of the Praxeum, it was going to be his job to see that all this information was gone through and categorized properly. A full time task, to be sure, but one that Vince was prepared for.

Syrus was standing with his hands in his jedi robes, the wind was making the tail of his robe flap widly. As the dust swirled around his eyes he saw something that cought his intrest. He had been sepreated from the rest in the attack. Now he could hardly beleive his eyes.

He was at the top of a large sand dune. He could swear he saw Master Baas standing there near the edge of a forest. Gathering the force in his kegs he made a hude leap.

He landed on one knee about twenty feet from the group. He walked over to the large man. His smile reappeared on his face. He nodded to the master, Master Baas.

Why...why now...why at all?

The loss to the sith had damaged Cronos' ego, something that jedi weren't supposed to have. That made him question his commitment to the lightside of the the force, and that always ended badly. The last time he'd questioned his commitment to the jedi ways, he'd fallen to the darkside in a battle against Malice Draclau. That day he vowed never again to give in to the temptations, and fall to the ways of the darkside. But he was unable to keep that vow, and once again fell to the darkside, and that time it was much harder for to get up and dust himself off. He thought he'd fallen to for good, but his past teachings and lessons were to far etched into his brain, for all he wanted to do was destroy sith. For a while, he became a Rogue Jedi, not doing anything. It was like he exiled himself, to a planet in the outer rim. But he couldn't keep away from the jedi, and eventually returned to the order. He journeyed to Ossus, where he found the Jedi Praxeum. He was accepted into the order, and never expected an attack from the sith. That's why he was hit so hard when it happened.

But that was behind him now. Now was a time for new beginnings. The jedi would learn from their past mistake, and such another attack would not happen again. Cronos himself would make sure of that. With a face void of emotion, not fazed by the light wind, he sat atop a heavily forested hill, some odd thirty yards from where master Odin Bass stood. The jedi would need strong leaders now. He would aspire to be one of them.

"I guess it was meant to be like this. For us to have to find a new home in such a terrible way," he said to himself, though he could feel that he was heard by others. "It was the only way for us to move to our rightful place, in the valley of the Jedi."

OOC:

Ok guys, this post should help describe what happened on Ossus and how the planet was found. There was a lot to correct, so, if you’re reading and you find a blooper, just let me know so I can fix it.

If there is any way, can we place this post before all existing posts?…. It might make more sense….

Total word count of this post: 2,123 ((not counting OOC))

"You know what I seek Jedi. Give them to me and I shall spare your miserable life…"

In a swift flash of movements, auburn locks and earth-toned cloths, Dyani Spark bounded, once again, into the nursery of her Ossusian home; stopping short as the young Jedi took in the scene there.

"Well now, what was that… two minutes…. A new record."
The kind aged woman commented lightly in her soft sing-song tones, welcoming her adopted granddaughter back into her presence. The silver-haired elder gazed down at the sleeping infant in her arms, rocking him gently.

"There now, my little Jorryn, you see how much your mother loves you…. She can’t bear to be away from you…not for a moment…."

The woman looked to Dyani and smiled.
"Honestly Dyani, what am I here for….?
The babes are in good hands, little one. You need to tend to your affairs and, for heavens sake, get some rest…. When was the last time you slee…"

"I just thought…thought I felt something NaNa… I could have swore…"
The young woman spoke vaguely as she crossed the room, the comment cutting off her grandmother’s familiar reasoning. Reaching one of identical cribs, Dyani hungrily drank in the presence of her slumbering daughter. Snowy-fair lids shielded Nashira’s emerging golden eyes from the world; dark locks graced the babies head in short, satin chestnut currents. Her new, receptive mind drifted effortlessly on the warm force energies that enfolded her.

She, like her brother, was absolutely perfect.

Emerging from behind the young Jedi, a soft, time weathered hand settled on her shoulder, resting there with an encouraging touch.

"The dark voice again….was it?"

Dyani turned, nodding distantly before bending down to kiss the feather soft forehead of her Jorryn.
"You can go to bed NaNa…. I think I should stay with them, just until the energies subside…."

Dyani looked up and found the elder’s eyes; gathering every last fiber of her frayed strength, she spoke as convincingly as her energy levels permitted.
"We’ll be fine… really…"

NaNa pulled away fluidly, and with lithe and loving steps, she cradled the sleeping Jorryn, walking the infant slowly around nursery and away from his mother’s reach.

"Ah… It’s not the babes I worry about, it’s you little one."

Stopping the soothing stride, the silver-haired woman gathered her genuine intentions and infused them into the wisdom that took flight and drifted through the dimly lit room.

"During my long years, I have raised many children, little one… all unique and precious to me. It was such a joy to love them….to nurture them… watch them grow.

It is such an urgent love… you want to wrap it around the little lights…. Protect them from the wickedness of life…. Keep them pure, perfect…

Just a word of warning, my child…. You won’t be able to protect them forever…"

Dyani’s shadowed form stood motionless at the other side of the room, half listening to the speech, half sipping at the mounting energies, twisted and vile, that circled skillfully, maliciously….looking for an opening… an opportunity.

"Now dear… If I’m not mistaken, you’re late for a banquet…
I’m sure you’re the only Jedi at this Praxeum who isn’t present…."

Something deep at Dyani’s center twisted as a chilling reality came into existence. Reaching out with her awareness she followed the lingering vibrations to their origins. Somewhere, so very close, darkness dwelled. Taunt and poised, a predator waited to strike…

"The Jedi are pre-occupied…"
Dyani whispered as her intense amber eyes burned through the nursery’s dim light. Her force-infused body flowed with a dire purpose as she grimly, began to inch her way backwards.

"No matter what NaNa, no matter what…. stay here… don’t venture anywhere near the…"

Her focus twisted inward as the answer materialized…

"The spaceport…."

* * *

"Major… we need all defenses charged and ready, alert troop companies that there is a very serious threat to Ossus security… it’s cloaked… somehow… against our sensors..
We shall have to issue a scout sweep of all vital planetary and orbital perimeters…
Do you copy….?"

Dyani released the hold on her com link as she soared through the night blanketed streets, carried on the currents of chilled air by the silver silhouette of a Praxeum speeder bike. Subconsciously, the young Jedi manipulated the controls, allowing her to twist and maneuver through the city traffic with relative ease at clearly unsafe speeds. Puzzled by the prolonged silence, she focused, once more, on the link.

"Major…. Do you copy…"

Dyani waited with baited breath as nothing but a faint static emanated from the speaker. Letting the tensions melt away from her alert being, she opted to make one last attempt…. Just as the sleeping com can to life.

Cold and callused…. The creature mocked…
"Jedi…..Jeeediii….give me what I waaaant…"

Like some filth-dwelling abomination, the monstrous voice, deep and ancient, oozed into the young woman’s mind… swelling and coveting…. violating…

"No….!"

Dyani exhaled sharply, shielding against the spectral predator’s rape. Ending the communication, she shifted her position on the bike and engaged the throttle… it was time to discover just how fast that speeder could go…

Like a waking dream, the spaceport air was thick and saturated with a dense electric haze. The other Jedi and been alerted, but remained absent in the hollow docking bay, causing Dyani’s footsteps to be the only sound that sliced through the low hum of the place. The universe was heavy on the young Jedi’s mind, so very heavy…..

Dyani’s eyes shut under the painful pressures that feel upon her. The darkness shifted like a turbulent sea around her. Swelling and churning, it was fervent to bring the retched waters of iniquity upon her; dedicated, it fought to grant the woman’s spirit the grim gift of a deep and desolate grave…..then at last, cutting through the fog, a blade, red as blood, was ignited.

Spinning with a motion far beyond thought, the attack was met with the golden energy of Dyani’s saber. Sparks shimmered through the imposing air as the creature stepped into view….

Clad in black fabrics, the menacing Sith gazed down at the Jedi from his shockingly tall seven-foot stature. Like venom, he seethed and swelled as he tested the woman’s strength against his blade, laughing wretchedly as Dyani’s arms began to tremble at his force. Words began to slip out, sharp as shards of glass, through the creature’s insanity.
"They will die if you resist. I will have them as my own; it is unavoidable; it is their destiny…."

Ignoring the shock from the prophecy that enfolded before her, the vision that had come to be, Dyani focused through the pain, the fear. Moving beyond the physical limitations of the flesh, she started to inch the blade away. Guided by her own saber, the dark tool curved from its target.

Dyani spoke as the red beam cleared her path of sight, her confidence re-newed by a fast approaching wave of light….Somehow, she felt the once spoken quote to be fitting…..

"Curious, how a force that so willingly surrenders such limitless peace can be a part of the same vile energies that forged you…"

Brashly, the Sith retracted and, within the short life of a moment, he spun and attempted an assault from the left. Again, the fallen vision’s lightsaber was halted by a defensive maneuver executed by the Jedi. The unsuccessful rampage continued, each blow soiled by the sobering desire to possess, each advance deflected by the rich longing to protect…

Until Sith’s re-enforcements arrived.

Dyani was unsure as to origins of the numerous blows, but their intensions where instantly realized. A regal violet was all she could recall, brilliant skeletal fingers of energy that screeched through the dark spaceport air and grounded themselves in her soft, yielding flesh. Knocked backward, the woman was thrown unceremoniously, against hard steel of the spaceport wall.

Deeply wounded, the Jedi fought to quell violent currents of the purest pain as she watch even more dark figures filter into possessed spaceport, all ripe with wickedness.

The universe threatened to slip, drain through her grip. Dyani felt thin, washed away just as her original opponents saber rose high, hungry to taste death…

The twisted instrument’s fall was stopped by a life shielding green saber. Steady and true, the tall, regal Jedi Master halted the attack, denying the vulgar blade its satisfaction.

“Odon…”

Dyani managed to relinquish his name before her eyes took in the sight behind her beloved.

The Sith was not the only duelist with re-enforcements

A truly glorious thing to behold, it is, when the force surrenders to the divine snap… hiss… hum… of uncountable lightsabers, each noble blade wielded by an army of Jedi. Before the night ascended into the sweet Ossusian morning, salvation would be found and new hope protected by a shimmering battle of lights…..

* * *

"The casualties where numerous…. I dare not say how many lights were extinguished that night…
The words are not unlike poison to me…."

Dyani spoke plainly into a holo-recorder as she resided solemnly in the passenger quadrant of the Jacaranda, a sleek silver Nabooian scout ship. She felt inclined to record her recollections of the infamous day…she was one of the few Jedi remaining who could document the torrid history.

"The Sith left the Praxeum in ruins… forever soiling the fertile Ossusian earth with the dark stain of death…. The fresh scent of blood...

Since then, Jedi Master Odon Baas has been leading an exploration mission beyond the reaches of free space…. We are in search of Ruusan…"

The craft rocked slightly, caught in a heavy force wave as the Jacaranda was pulled out of hyperspace. Blinking, Dyani leaned forward through the shivering stream of opaque light that cascaded from the recorder. Streching, she tried to make out the scene unfolding just beyond the helm window…. But there were no joyous outbursts, no riveting alerts sounded….So with a heavy heart, Dyani relented a soft sigh and turned her attention back to the task at hand.

"The search has carried on for several months now. Because of the legendary interest that surrounds the world, all possible coordinates that could be recovered from the Praxeum’s planetary logs have proven to be misleading….

We feel the maps have been tampered with and manipulated to keep the Valley of the Jedi lost in obscurity…The perpetrators clearly hoped the world would simply fade away and became a tale of imagination and fantasy…"

Dyani needed a moment to collect her stoic composure as the crew’s tentative tides of despair rushed in and lapped at her feet. The young Jedi shivered as, in her mind, logic was fighting a battle with hope, and hope was well beyond weary.

"Dyani…"

The young woman looked to the source of the gentle voice and found herself lost in the lush emerald forest of familiar eyes. Shaking off the last tendrils of sorrow, she surrendered her presence to Odon’s gleaming radiance, and, for the first time since she last saw the regal Jedi, she smiled.

"Don’t tell me we’ve finally come across the "X" on the treasure map… I was just getting used to the thrilling vacuum of space…."

Odon said nothing as he held his unfaltering stance and extended a hand to Dyani, his wise eyes almost twinkled, eager to divulge some bright secret.

Cradling her hand in the constant shelter of his, Odon turned and guided the Dyani forward, leading her the control deck and the view screen that she had twisted her body to see just a few moments before.

Reaching out, Dyani could sense an allusive energy stir, but buried deep within the spiraling cascades of nebular dust, it remain hidden from sight. Bewildered, she turned to glance at the sensory readings on the helm.

"I don’t understand, I feel something… it’s dynamic and imposing, almost alive… but neither my eyes, nor the ships scanners are picking up anything…."

Odon just smiled and gestured out the window as something wonderful materialized.

"By the force…."
Were the only simple words that escaped Dyani as the universe shifted, opened to the silver ship. Soft amber eye’s held the triumph as it shimmered across the observation screen, Ruusan.

Unparalleled in brilliance, the illuminated orb glistened, radiating the constant currents of light that graced the planet. The orb shifted and transformed with a proud blue green light.

Dyani smiled as she reminisced, the dancing colored radiance was not unlike the noble blades of her fallen companions…. It was a fitting tribute…

Turning to Odon, she gave his hand a loving squeeze, her eyes reached out and caressed in a joyous embrace.

"You’ll excuse me… but I have a new chapter to add to the memoirs…."
