I'm sure you are.
Jules De'Moor was nothing if not ambitious. Slightly psychopathic, perhaps, but the traits often complimented each other. Not everyone could kill their own father in cold-blood. The Union's sources had hinted that Jules had done the deed personally, a feat in and off itself.
There was no doubt that Jules De'Moor was an intriguing person.
Her reaction to Tir's message had been defiant but calculating. Although she seemed doubtful that her plan was in jeopardy, she hadn't ruled out the possibility that Tir spoke the truth. And she had carefully phrased her question in an attempt to force Tir to reveal himself, his affiliation, and perhaps his motive.
Shrewd... though it also reinforced the most critical notion Tir had garnered from encountering Jules and her organization. Jules De'Moor was a control-freak.
To be fair, the leaders of most crime syndicates were. And as much as Jules father had tried to tout the legitimate aspects of Cryon Corp, the company was primarily a front for a small but growing criminal empire. The situation was remarkably similar to the Union itself, albeit on a much smaller scale. The extremely flexible nature of intergalactic corporations made them the perfect agents of the evolving nature of organized crime. As such, Cryon Corp seemed a perfect fit for inclusion into the ever expanding network of the Union.
The final decision, however, was up to Tir.
When the Union chose to expand, it sent out feelers to the groups in question, to assess whether they would be able to function properly as a piece in a larger puzzle. Those feelers were, in most cases, one of two different beings- Omega Thrax or Tir. When a group was approached, they had already been approved as possible members by either the Chairman himself, or a meeting of the Committee. But the real test was the meeting with the Union emissary.
The key, the crux of the deal, was the impression the leader, the possible Director, made on Omega or Tir. Usually the organization as a whole had no idea that they were operating as agents of the Union. In numerous instances, only the group’s final authority even knew of the Union's existence. As such, it was up to Jules De'Moor to prove that Cryon Corp was worthy of inclusion into a very exclusive club.
So far she was doing a good job.
"Ms. De'Moor, I am emissary from an intergalactic organization that has taken a serious interest in your recent activities. Your company, and your... other operations are in many ways compatible with the modus operandi of this... alliance."
Tir Esias paused. Although he doubted that Jules knew implicitly of the Union's existence, it was not implausible for her to have heard rumors. Rumors discussed in shallow whispers in back alleys and out of the way cantinas.
"I represent the Union."
