And They Call It Victory...

The mountains on Tholatin had always been a peaceful place for those that took to the time to venture there. Given the current state of affairs and what had happened to the planet in recent years it wasn't hard to believe that no one would venture there. No one did except for Kamon, really, and that's because he was more or less living there alone.

Amarie wasn't wanted by any forces and for all anyone knew she didn't know where her father was. That, at least, allowed her to live in the castle near the capital city. At least she had some sense of freedom as far as travelling went. He was confined to the mountains and the small Rogue Jedi temple that he had built there.

Regardless, he remained in contact with his daughter and was always asking her questions about things. She was his source of outside information because he couldn't do anything for fear of being caught. If the Dragon's found out that he was back on Tholatin then they would surely attack once more and attempt to capture him again. Granted Kamon wouldn't go peacefully this time.

He spent most of his time meditating and wishing that his old master's weren't dead or missing. They could teach him so much more than what he knew. He could still remember when his second master had died in battle. The pain he'd felt and how Corran had to fight to get Kamon to regain control of himself. That was back in the war against Thrawn so many years ago.

Regardless, things got rather lonely up in the mountains so he had called Amarie and asked her to come out and visit him. For a teenager she never really seemed, in his eyes, to be the rebellious sort. He knew she would come and he knew she looked forward to it. Or at least he thought he knew that she would look forward to it. No one ever really knew for sure unless they got inside that persons head and he couldn't do that from where he was.

Anyways, he had taken up post on a small cliff on the side of one of the mountains near the Temple. It offered a wide view of the plains beyond and off in the distance was the capital city. It was peaceful there and he sat cross-legged, letting the wind blow over him and send his now long hair cascading out to the side as if it were some sort of flag.

It wasn't just his daughter that he missed, though. He missed Andraes, Amarie's twin brother. And he missed Kate, the twins mother and his former wife whom he had loved dearly. On their wedding day Kamon's master, Gash Jiren, had given them each a lightsaber that connected them in bond. He would always be able to feel where his wife was and if she needed him. Today that bond was broken and he feared the reason why.

There was something else he missed to. A friend that he had been bonded to at a young age. A Monteradon friend who had always stood by his side no matter what. When Kamon had come back to Tholatin after the Dragon's had turned it over, it was the first thing he noticed. The Monteradon's were gone and he couldn't contact Freefall, his life-partner. It disturbed him greatly and that's why he needed Amarie. He needed her help...

They called the regaining of Tholatin a victory. But with so many people hurting and the absence of the Monteradon's, how could it really be a victory?

It was early morning in the capital city on Tholatin, and in one teenaged girl's opinion, about the best time to come out and visit the open marketplace. Only so early in the day where the crowds were relatively light, and Amarie was less likely to be asked questions about how she was doing, what she was up to, and wether or not her father was going to return home.

They all knew the answer to the last question, the one with reguards to her father. She didn't know if he was coming home, and understood the risks that Tholatin would have to face again if he made an appearance in the capital city itself.

Despite all that, it didn't help the fact that she missed her own father, or the overall mood of the people around her, which made her feel worse because she could feel it as well as her own father could.

So, when Amarie got the invitation to join her father, even for a short period of time, in his hidding place, she could honestly say that her spirits lifted, a smile was seen on her face for the first time in what seemed like forever. He was the only family that she had left, for she couldn't even feel her own twin brother.

Another hour in the market finding all the supplies she needed, then she could make final preparations for her letting moutain climbling excursion. The people here were the only ones who didn't know that there was an actual destination in mind, no matter how much she wished things were different, and that she didn't have to sneak away like she was. It was like being dishonest, telling a lie to an entire world's populace.

She should be coming soon and he was as anxious as could be expected from a father who was going to see his daughter for the first time in weeks. More like months but that was beside the point. The truth of the matter was that he wanted his daughter to be with him more and he wanted her with him as much as possible. A natural feeling, but one that put her in danger just as much as it did him.

There was the little matter of the fact that as soon as he saw her he would think of her mother, but that was bound to happen. Surely she would understand that he still loved her mother despite the divorce. As far as he knew she did anyways. He would get over it as quick as he possibly could, coming around to why he had asked her to come out there in the first place. Besides the point of him wanting to spend time with her.

There was the little matter of where the Monteradon's had gone. Kamon had tried many, many times to contact his lifepartner, but Freefall never answered the calls. The two were connected by a very powerful bond, but it had grown weak when Kamon had been imprisoned. Now it was weak enough he couldn't even feel Freefall.

Somehow he suspected that the flying giant was still alive and he wanted to go find him. He wanted to know where the Monteradon's had gone to hide and he wanted to take Amarie there. It was high time that his daughter, the heir to the thrown of Tholatin, was bonded with a Monteradon lifepartner just as Kamon had been when he was younger. It would be her friend and confidant, her guardian.

After a while he had left the mountainside and made his way back down the mountain into the secluded valley below. There he could find peace and quiet, but it was peace and quiet that he no longer enjoyed. He wanted noise, he wanted someone to talk to. Someone who could tell him what was going on.

He needed Freefall, and he needed his daughter.

There were few who questioned her as she made her purchases, but most of the shopkeepers had wisely kept silent. Chances were, with what she carried on her backpack, she'd be secluded in the mountains for a decent period of time. Though nobody said it openly, Amarie would've been willing to guess that some even whispered that she even split some of the things she was carrying with another individual.

If anybody asked if she was meeting someone, Amarie would only smile, not giving an ansnwer of any sort, for all they knew she could've been searching for the missing Monteradons. It was as legitimate an excuse for her excursions as anything else.

She was already on the outskirts of the capital, taking only the few exits out of the city that only a select few would know about, wanting only to avoid as much trouble as possible, and taking a route where Amarie expected her father wouldn't mind meeting her.

And she had chosen the correct path for approaching where Kamon lived out his days. No one followed her as far as could be seen and no one could watch her from a distance because of the cover of trees and rocks. If they wanted to follow her they would have had to been almost right upon her heels to keep track of her and he knew that wasn't possible. Amarie would have felt it if someone followed her.

Kamon was waiting in the mouth of the entrance to the valley which held the Rogue Jedi temple. In fact it was one of the last such temples within the galaxy as the Rogue Jedi had all but become extent. When their leader, Gash Jiren, disappeared from the known galaxy it only made sense that his followers would dwindle in number soon afterwards. And dwindle they had until there were only a minute few left.

Two of those were Kamon and his daughter even if she hadn't formally received much in the way of training. That would come in time, but she first had to arrive. When she neared the valley, he gave her a nudge in the Force to tell her that he was watching, a smile on his rough face along with the hair that had grown into a beard.

"It's good to see you, Amarie. I've missed you greatly."

The words sprang forth from his lips as soon as his daughter was near enough to hear them. If she turned her head to look towards the voice she would see what appeared to be a boulder suddenly turn into the full shape of a grown man as Kamon rose from his position. Stepping into Amarie's path, he opened his arms to her.

Amarie made it way too hard for anybody to follow, that much she made sure of. Can't sneak on somebody who could sense you comming. It was a smart move on her part, for she didn't want to unwittingly cause trouble for those in her own home, let alone her father. In her view, dissapointing her own father would be one of the worst things a child could possibly do, even moreso when all one has is each other.

A smile was her answer as she was approaching the valley, sensing that her father was there, probably giddy as a little kid to see anybody at all after so much time. Who was to blame him, for she was feeling that way as well?

To sense his presence, was one thing though...to actually hear his voice, and turn to see where he was speaking from was quite another, her eyebrow quirking upwards as she took in the sight of what appeared to be an old hermit, long hair and scraggly beard included. Each time he looked more like this crazy old hermit, unable to keep herself from giggling as she slid the backpack from her shoulders, and rushed to give her own father a hug.

Wrapping his arms around her, he held his daughter close to him for a while, planting a light kiss on top of her head. Every time he saw her she seemed to grow older and wiser. This time even moreso than she had the last time. It was an amazing change to see, one that any parent would hope to see in their child.

"You've grown so much. Don't mind the beard and long hair, by the way. It's all part of the disguise."

Slowly pulling away from her was probably one of the hardest things he had ever done. He wished he could stand there forever and hold her in his arms but that wasn't going to happen. It could, but nothing good would come of it other than being together. No, they needed to get moving towards the temple and out of plain view.

"Grab your pack and we'll go to the temple and talk."

He watched her as she walked away, noting every minute detail about her. She was older now, body maturing into the fine young woman that she most definately was. Kamon had raised her to be of good standing, it was her mother that gave her the looks she now exhibited. That thought brought a silent tear to his eye, but brushed it away and kept Amarie from seeing it.

When she had her pack, he offered out a hand to her and then led her down the valley path towards the temple. It was high time that Kamon taught her a little bit more about the Force powers that she possessed. He needed to teach her what being a Jedi was all about. What being a Rogue Jedi was all about. She would be the new breed of Rogue's, and he was going to teach her everything he knew.

Soon enough the temple loomed before them, the spire rising up towards the sky above. The temple was empty except when some of the last remaining RPGC came through. They couldn't venture into the capital, but many of them made trips to the smaller cities for supplies and everything else. None of them were there now, all out and about across the planet.

He led Amarie up the steps to the front entrance, across the small courtyard, and into the building. It was lit with candles, many large candles, many small candles. There was a table and chairs just inside the entrance and it was towards it that he led the young woman whom moved along with him and it was there that he stopped.

"Same as it always is. Just the temple that I built when I was younger. Before you were born."

Always and forever, she was always that little girl whenever she was within her father's arms. Even the next thing that her own father said added to that brief illusion, making her giggle. Now that she got a preview as to what her dad would look like as an elderly gentleman, the only thing she had to add to the image was a few more grey hairs.

The terrible thing about illusions were that they lasted about as long as a moment, the smile remaining upon her face as she came to realize that he was just as reluctant to step out of a momentary fantasy and back into reality. Not that Amarie would blame her dad, for wanting that few seconds to last for all eternity. The Force itself was the only entity that knew wether or not if they would end up dead by morning, for all either parent or child would know was that one last hug and a brief conversation, a few hours to connect with one another.

For now, Amarie would only pick up her backpack, and follow her father further into the valley, and eventually, the temple they both knew was there. If one wanted to learn about the force, especially the offshoot cousin that her father believed in, one had to be pretty darn determined, or insane in order to be able to find it....maybe both.

"Now, I get to see it."

"There isn't really much to see, Amarie. Most of it is just old and dusty. The room that we stand in now is the cleanest place in the whole temple."

In fact, the room that they were currently in was completely spotless as far as things went. There was no dust sitting around, no grime covering the room. He was careful to keep the room clean because dust always had a way of bothering him. The rest of the temple went unexplored because of all the dust. He just didn't want to bother with it.

Motioning for her to take a seat it the table, he pulled out a chair for himself and sat down in it. His beard was rather long and was starting to bother him a bit, so he made a mental note to get rid of it before they started their journey. He hoped Amarie was ready for one.

"How are things out there? Are they as bad as they look from out here? Which I don't know how bad that is because I can't see that far. The RPGC guys come through sometimes and they tell me things are bad, but they won't go to the capital..."

His eyes darted over the room for a moment, glancing at his bedroll in one corner before they moved to the box on the floor near it. That box held two sabers within it, both of them gifts he had received in the past. Out here he didn't where the sabers, but kept them inside of the box. There was no threat out there that he couldn't deal with.

Though it was saddening to hear her father say such a thing, it wouldn't have been practical to keep the entire temple as clean as the one room in which they now both stood, carefully setting her backpack down beside her as her father motioned for her to sit down. Watching him do the the same, and adjusting the beard so that it was out of his way was comical to her, keeping a smile upon her own face.

Then came the to the point where her visits became like a broken record, with the same questions repeating themselves with reguards to the situation with they both were caught up in, the same situation which led them to the sneaking about to see each other, and with her omitting details to those around her that could've given hope to the general population of Tholatin, and soon after, serious trouble.

Amarie's smile faded only slightly as she thought of the best way to answer him.

"They miss you about as bad as I do."
