Why do you write here?

In lieu of a few comments Zark made about his motivations behind writing here at TRF, I was intrigued and began to think about why I write here.

Writing helps me achieve peace of mind. It's not so much that I attain this peace by using writing to immerse myself in a fantasy world where none of my RL stresses exist, as much as that I generally tend to use my thoughts and feelings to fuel my writing. So I guess I use writing as a modified way of expressing myself... I say modified, because nothing I write directly relates to how I am feeling at the time. It just sort of prompts me to... want to write... about something....

Maybe I will always be stereotyped as the pain in the ass oldbie admin who demoted Gash a few months ago out of the blue and created 'the apocalypse,' and never known as the person I have only very recently become. Maybe I will never be known as one of the most respected writers and storytellers on the board for writing a whole line of epic RPs. Maybe I will never create and grow a group like TNO, ever build a Death Star and become the biggest fleet target in the galaxy, or ever be well a known OOC presence.

But that doesn't matter. I am known, however quietly, as a member and writer of this board reguardless of however I am characterized now, who has the priviledge of being among some great writers and people. For about a year I forgot that, and even recently I did again. But I am glad I remember now, and I am doubly glad that I have changed enough to be able to do so...

Yeah okay, I just felt like being... insightful today.

Cause when I write everywhere else, I am ridiculed.

I like the epic feel that TRF has to it. I also like having the oppertunity to interact with a different group of people (a number of whom I respect and admire) to those at SWFans. Ahnk, Zark, Seth, Kas and Gash in particular. I feel, as well, that I can go off on a weird tangent as often as I want and, for instance, write about the intergalactic porn industry without too much bother :P

Well, I had been floating around online looking for a new place to RPG at since I had been "on leave" from TGC for several months. As I wasn't having much luck at writing on my professional projects, I figured I'd take on what one of my professors once said: do any sort of writing just to keep your creativity fresh. So, I'm here. And back at TGC.

I was intrigued by this site since its own of the few (besides TGC) that is ACTIVE and doing SW rpg which is what I'm interested in. :)

TRF (as anal and prickish as some people may become in the Café) has always had quality, and oft-professional-level writing in the Battlegrounds. Sure, I could go to TGC and produce with regularity writing that's above par there, but I don't want that. I want to have people around me who are as good as or better than I, and make me want to write better. Zark's FT&BS has made me want to infuse more emotion into my characters. Omnae's writing wants me to make my characters smart, and my RP's bigger and grander. Seth's writing always appears well thought out and planned, making me want to know what I'm going to write... In short, the writers here make me want to be better at what I do for a hobby.

This is also the first SW board that I became a regular member of, so there's quite a bit of loyalty to the place, and to a few people.

Not to mention that bit about being one of the staff.... ;)

Because I love Star Wars.

That is really all it's about for me. I've been a fan since I was a little kid, and now that the movies are about to end, I feel TRF is a good way to continue being a fan of the saga.

Once Revenge of the Sith comes and goes, that will be it for the movies, but I always know I'll have TRF to provide me an outlet.

And because I love being largely ignored.

For fun, and frolics.

I enjoy writing, its a creative outlet, plus I get to meet all kinds of people, many of them SW fans like myself, heh.

Its on the whole another game for me to play, and right from when I first discovered all of this, the total level of immersion intrigued me, after all, its down to you how immersed you want to become when playing this game. (Zark is a good example, heh).

One thing that has always surprised me, (and continues to do so), is how you can develop friendships online whilst in effect playing an ongoing Role-playing game. I guess I never expected that, and its cool.
I guess I think many of you as mates, hell! I've known most of you for years now.

Also, writing with other people, I have found, gives you new insights and glimpses into fresh perspectives that you may not have considered before. I have found my writing improved a lot as a result.

The bottom line is, I enjoy coming here. ;)

In the words of our fave Brit-- "For fun, and frolics!"

Plus, I had always been curious about TRF since word spread to SW Tales and it finally made me sneak at peek at you guys. As well, I was curious to see how Fleet RP was written in comparison to regular storywriting.

And of course, everyone here amuses me with their antics and comments, which makes me come back for more.

Because I am single-mindedly determined to free the entire galaxy of TRF one day, then I'll do my victory jig.

Oh, and the interesting people and atmosphere, of course. The intellectual stimulus, the back-and-forth debates, the unique characters that make up a diverse and unusual board, all of these mixed together into a microchasm of human society that showcases a variety of strengths and weaknesses that reminds us that everyone is human, everyone exists, everyone has their own life and has developed in their own way.

...Yada yada yada.

Because, when I was banned from a place I considered my home, I needed a new place to go to, and a good friend of mine recommended this place, and I came here. I write because I enjoy writing, no matter how good or bad it may seem, and be sought upon by others. Because I enjoy the community, the more freestyle, and less restricted writing guidelines, and the people that make up the community.
