Actually I beg your pardon Hyfe, the OT is not still there. If you do not already own a copy of the original release, you can't go to any local store and buy one, unless you buy a used tattered one off of ebay. GL has made sure that you can only buy the latest reincarnation of Star Wars, because that is what he wants everyone to see.

My point is that why doesn't GL release the original Star Wars the way it was in the 70's? Soon the 90's SE will dissapear into the woodwork too, replaced by the new dvds coming out. He's not giving us a choice of what version we want to watch! So maybe you don't care about the changes because you'll just stick to your old vhs tapes, but what is everyone else supposed to do? If I had access to the original films, then I wouldn't give a rat's ass how many changes he made to the new releases either.

The Jar Jar thing is a rumor I heard from a net friend who said he'd seen the new ending.... he's usually pretty accurate, so I guess we'll see. This time I hope to God he's wrong. Here's a link to a board where the addition of Naboo and bootleg dvd rips of the new release is discussed...

And my friend declares that Jar Jar is briefly seen yelling, "Wesa freeeee!"

Here is a video clip of the Hayden scene in ROTJ. The quality of the paste is very nice, but it's.... wrong. There isn't even a logical reason in my mind why GL would decide to make the change. And now that I think about it, Anakin looks like a tall Frodo....

GL, why fix it if it ain't broke?

You had almost 30 years, OS. If its really that important to you I'm surprised you didn't buy the movies a long time ago.

I agree that pasting Hayden in there was retarded. Logically, if OB1 looked like he did just before death, Anakin should too. The reason I always assumed for Anakin looking a little different as a ghost was that it was his figure without the taint of the dark side and all the effects it had on him, but he was clearly still older. Having Anakin look like a 25 year old makes no sense at all.

What are you trying to do, insult me? :p I've only been on this earth 20 years, and out of that twenty really only the past 5 or 6 was Star Wars important to me. When I asked for the SW trilogy for christmas I got the SE because thats all there was. I could count the times I've seen the original releases on one hand. What about all the newer fans who will never have access to the original stuff? (and we all know there's plenty out there, it's not *that* small of a world) I think Lucas wants it that way....

Now on the other hand, GL making some stuff dissapear is good, like the Star Wars christmas special..... heh, that is best left forgotten. But the original SW releases are not.

I have a '77 version of A New Hope, a hand-me-down from my parents...

Still in excellent condition.

Go to an out of the way movie store where they still rent out the OT editions, rent all three, and then "lose" them. No one rents the OT since the SE came out, so they're bound to be in fine shape.

Good call there.

I plan on getting the OT DVDs, I'll have all 3 NT DVDs, I have the Special Edition video box set, and I have all 3 movies of the OT... recorded off of TV. LOL.

*giggles, remembers when she used to want to watch ANH every day when she got home from school when she was little: must have drove her parents mad*

I managed to get a glimpse at some of the changes via a site our friends at SWT linked on their board.

The Jabba part I am not sure about: he does look less ridiculous then he did in the SE edition, but he still looks...out of place.

The Emperor hologram bit looked better in the original IMO.

I actually like the 'shaved eyebrows' part, makes Vader/Anakin look more like he's suffered while on the Dark Side. However I did not like the looks of the ghost scene *agrees with OS...he does look like Frodo there...gah*

As for the rest of the changes...I could care less: yes even the Greedo part

I especially do not like them putting Hayden in the ROTJ ending scene. If they made Anakin younger in the 'Force spirit' life, why didn't they put Ewan and the younger looking Yoda in there too? That was one of the stupidest changes to the OT besides the rumored appearance of Jar Jar on Naboo in ROTJ.

I agree 100%.
