i played that game for hours on end and killed probably a thousand people in the game. i dont have any desire to go out in do it in real life. people that say they do it because of a video game are using it as a cop out for a defense plea or are fucking brainless morons and deserve their fate. video games a killer do not make.
I am inclined to agree. In a way it is a form of escapsim, much as here is to us. My only problem is that I have run into situations as a patrol officer where people actually have tried to emulate these games. I suppose that gives me less of a theoretical perspective.
However, if you can play the game and not go out and scope out the best vantage point on the neart clock or bell tower, then play on.
The people who have those problems would use another scapegoat. Hell, for clock tower action, blaming the Hitman titles would be a better choice.
I'm going to get it when I feel that I have the time to play it. I'll probably spend the vast majority of it driving really fast and seeing what I can do with the cars. I've been told the driving physics are much more realistic.
The driving camera/s have changed somewhat, too; and while they are odd to begin with (the driver's seat is in the center of the screen, which means the right side of the car is off to the right, ironically), it's not too bad once you get used to it. At first I had trouble judging the turns, and I do get annoyed with the camera not following behind - it can hang behind and you can begin turning into the side of the screen (but a simple right thumbstick click brings it back behind).
However, for those important chases, I switch to the 1st person driving cam - all the better to judge the distances, turns and allows me to handbrake much more effectively.
Ran into the back of an SUV on a motorbike, probably doing a hundred. My body wrapped itself around the SUV before careening off in a different direction. As my character is getting up, I hear someone say "What the fuck was that?"
I don't think I've laughed as hard to a video game before.
Just stopped by and saw you guys discussing GTA so thought I'd add my 2 cents.
The first thing I noticed about this game is that the graphics are far superior to the previous GTA games. The second thing I noticed about 2 minutes into the game is how much more realistic it is, and I realized this after stepping into the street and getting run over by a cop. This never happened in any of the other GTA games.
The second thing I noticed is I don't really like the way driving feels as much in this game, maybe because it is more realistic. It's definitely much harder to control, especially on turns considering the amount of hairpin, high-speed turns you have to make in a game like this. And as Vance mentioned, the camera. I would prefer, especially when you have to drive at high speeds, if you could use a more zoomed-out view as in previous GTA games.
But all that said, it's an amazing game and despite its imperfections it's shaping up to be one of the top GTA games thus far. The mini games alone could be sold on Xbox Live for a few hundreds points each I'm sure. And the news of 2 expansions which will each be the size of San Andreas is good news indeed. Seems like this might be the type of game that has not only huge replayability but will last for a very, very long time.
And Beff, I'm glad you took my advice and got an Xbox 360, let me know what games you have we'll have to meet up online dude.
