Ceel is the cause of most of the schisms amongst the SW communities. And of those 1234 new posts in a day? HA! I'll give benefit of the doubt here and say that no more than 34 of those (and that is being generous) are actual RP posts. The remaining 1200 are all spam.
I just find it odd how he laments about how great SWFans was back in the day with thousands of posts and he was one of the people that shattered it by breaking it up to go on his own. That was the beginning of the end of that "great glorious age". And like anything else, once the damage was done, things spiraled out of control.
If he was serious you'd think he would have thought of the damage he was doing by alienating more than half of his membership time after time. I guess it was easier to force a break than deal and now there are boards where his credibility is shattered.
And he wants everyone else to put the past behind them as if they bear all the responsibility for this "imagined dark age of roleplaying" we seem to be in?
I am sorry. Old SWFans age is gone. Broken by those who went their own way for whatever reason. The Prequels are done and unless in another ten years Lucas starts Episode 7, it will not come again.
But if there was a serious query about increasing your rp'ing base and calling for "reconciliation/unity", I would think that the first step would be TGC and SWFans reuniting/merging back into one large board. That might go along way in reestablishing credibility. At least, it would be a start.
TRF does not base it's success on comparing what we do with what was going on during the heyday of Star Wars mania?
Live in the 'now'! lol..
So, rather than try to return to the past, look to the future and appreciate what you have.
TRF has a dynamic that is both irreverent and brilliant. We aren't the biggest roleplaying board but we are the biggest bunch of misfits around.. lol
I think TRF works. We have a niche with our focus on RP'ing from a more political and governmental side. We've changed through the years, gotten big, gotten dangeriously small, but on the whole I think we've managed a very respectable level of activity.
It's true that the nature of Star Wars on the internet is changing, but it is by no means dying. There are plenty of different ways to expand and perfect what we're doing now -- we've only begun to scratch the surface of what TRF could be. The only constraint is time and gumption.
What will kill TRF, and other RP boards would be the changing interests of its fanbase. As people grow older and move on in life the boards will ahve to change as well. New administration, new memberbase, new interests... if the members are not good at adaption the board will die.
I dunno. If Ceel wanted to make some sort of 'unity board' he probably should have done it off of TGC.
