I listen to all kinds of music. I tend to go with altrock, but old-style country and bluegrass gets in the mix as well as some classical, some rap, some metal and some other stuff.
Lyrics are important to me, but if the music is good enough I can overlook silly lyrics.
Cradle of Filth is more death metal than anything else, and not very good. Although I did like Hallowed Be Thy Name. Not my type of music, but I'm a sucker for a good story when it comes to any type of music.
What's Bloodsimple ? I looked up the name on Metal Archives but couldn't find anything. Are they a core band ? If so, that would probably explain why.
Bands like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and other comparatively lesser-known acts which incorporate a thousand and one layers of synthesisers and butcher the norsecore sound are all ick, in my opinion. There are those who claim that COF and Dimmu's older works are at least somewhat decent, but I've never been a fan; that style of sound has just never appealed to me. The only COF track I can tolerate is "No Time To Cry" (and even that's a Sisters of Mercy cover), and I find it impossible to stay awake through any of Dimmu's albums, so go figure.
And if anyone brings up the "Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir sold out and aren't real black metal" argument, you deserve to be shot, because that's already been rehashed and regurgitated countless times over. -__-;
I'm not a huge aficionado of most thrash either, to be honest, but you can't possibly go wrong with the classics like Bathory, Venom, Sodom -- and of course, my two loves, Slayer and Celtic Frost. Some of the newer bands like Toxic Holocaust are fun to listen to every now and then, but overall it's not really my niche.
Musically, Burzum is great, but in terms of ideology ? ... Urgh National Socialism, no thanks.
Death metal ? I'm forever a devotee of the "old school" sound; I can't stand the uber-technical guitar masturbation of some of the newer bands (just go play power metal instead, damnit), and most grind has always gone straight over my head. Most bands these days all sound the same, but then again I suppose that can be said about most metal sub-genres these days.
