I use Windows, but I have used Macs in the past, and I've never had a problem. A matter of preference, I guess.

The Mac OS looks great but it seems a bit too simple to me - like it's hiding something. I've only ever used the Macs in my Practical Course building and they seem to work okay, but I get the feeling that if I tried to do anything that Apple hadn't idiotproofed, it'd stop me doing it.

I've got no basis for that, it's just the impression it gives.

By the way: "Windows crashes because of badly coded third party software, while Macs crash due to their faulty operating system" <- I'm not entirely sure that's true. I'm pretty sure it'd be the other way round. Especially Windows 95,98 which were just DOS with a frontend....

Mind you, Macs have the mouse. With ONE button. That really pisses me off, and because they're not my computers, I can't just plug a sensible mouse in. WHY only have a single button?!?! *insanity sets in*

*runs around*

MAC SUCKS! HAHAHA!

BWAH HA HA!

And it only has a single mouse button because windows owns the copyright to the right click. It's MADNESS! :P

LOL... well, I can tell there are a fair share of Mac-fanatics on TRF. I won't go any further with a counter-argument, as I'm assuming it won't do any good.

On a side note, however, I DO know what I'm talking about. I'm a computer engineering student in college, and I build PCs on the side as a hobby. I certainly don't know everything there is to know about computers, but I ask that you never insult my knowledge concerning computers again. If you want to stick with a Mac, fine, I won't try and stop you... I was just saying those things in hopes that others wouldn't be swayed by some of the false things Apple says about their products... there was no hostility intended.

You are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine.

I'm more of a Microsoft fan myself. Macs are all right, I've used them, but I've never had any of the troubles described above with Windows ever. I tend to prefer Windows simply because it is much more compatible compared to Mac in general.

If you knew what you were talking about, there would be nothing to question. But you cannot post things like this:

Macs do crash, a lot, contrary to popular belief, and for worse reasons than PCs. Windows crashes because of badly coded third party software, while Macs crash due to their faulty operating system(which, by the way, is not based on their own software like they tell you, but actually on freeBSD). Oh, and what makes these crashes so much more desirable is that when they happen, it is almost always impossible to trace the crash back to its source; the only way to fix it is to reinstall the system. Fun times.
...and then cry when people call you on being a dumbass. Everything you say there, save for the history of the OS, is garbage.

So no, I won't take your "I'm a computer engineering student therefore I know what I'm talking about" as true. PROVE you know what you're talking about. Respect is earned, not handed out like candy apples at a carnival.

FYI, you're not off to a good start.

RE: Apple mice. The new Apple Might Mouse includes a right click button - the trackpads on their laptops also have a very handy "double tap" function (using two fingers instead of one) to right click and scroll. There's also the old Control-Click standby...

And of course, you can plug in any USB mouse. How many of you actually use the original mouse from your FutureShop PC, anyway? ALL included mice suck...

I use a $5 dollar mouse and a $10 dollar keyboard. Have used for years, probably will continue to. Don't need much else, really.

Believe it or not, yes, Mac hides quite a bit, but it has a far more powerful command line than a stock Windows install. If you want to type commands and have it dance to whatever tune you want, it can, like any other *nix.

It's not an opinion if you're wrong based on fact. I've been building PCs since I was 12/13. I'm 24. I've held various technical positions since senior year of high school. You are so utterly full of shit. I say this with hostility because you are simply A) stupid or B) lying. I'm not a fanatic, I'm probably the most platform agnostic person you will meet. I run a test webserver with Linux, my primary PC dual boots between Vista and XP, and the various laptops in the house are Macs. If I didn't play games/Photoshop I'd probably run Linux all the time.

You must have some really special Macs because I've never seen one of ours crash. I haven't seen my XP box bluescreen in 3 years, either, but I can tell you that I have never had to clean spyware/viruses out of a Mac, and I make some side money cleaning out XP installs.

Macs used to be awful. OS 8/9 was awful garbage. OS X 10.1/10.2 were slow and a bit buggy (but not crash prone), but 10.3 on? You must be in some sort of parallel universe where Macs run Windows ME.

I do have to admit to preferring Windows XP to Mac OS9. But since the release of OSX, Apple has really been producing a better OS. Even considering the flaws in OS 10.1, they upgrade and fix those bugs on a yearly or better basis.

Microsoft when five years with only ONE major update to XP...

I installed Windows on my Mac as a test recently. It crashed several times during and after the install. OSX has NEVER crashed due to software problems...
