The critical difference, Dolash, is that Lord of the Rings can have a figure like Gandalf - there's one writer, and he knows how its going to end. On TRF, even if you try, you don't have enough control, perhaps, to make it work.
*shrug*
That being said, I would say Simon Kaine is that sort of character. Look at Axioms, look at Insidion, look at Endgame. All are examples of the kind of subtle mastery of events you're talking about.

And even then it's up to the players involved to actually to take heed of what is happening, and whether or not if they wish to actually play them out.
Anyone can be subtle in altering events... but it's only worthwhile if people play into that kind of grander plan. And that's considerably harder with many writers in a story, heh.

It would be, Vance, if you made each writer an equal participant. But that is the point, I am saying it would be amazing were there a character who worked in such a way that even other writers were strategically manipulated into fulfilling his plan for him?
It is indeed hard for one writer to plot like that on their own, and for them to create a character of enough power and complexity to complete that plan, but it has happened before somewhat - Drayson, you have quoted good examples. I'm just saying that it would be most impressive were someone to do such a thing, perhaps even more so then it has been before.
Just thinking aloud, really, not actually saying we should all start working towards some grand plans. Still, it seems an interesting idea to me.

What would be the point of strategically manipulating other writers to carry out plots you envision if those other writers knew all about them? In fact, for such manipulations and machinations to work, it would depend on other writers not knowing them.
So just because you cannot recognize any does not mean they do not exist.
Just a thought.

Omnae, you just explodified my mind.
Good point.
Still, if there is someone, I can only wonder what their plan is. Nothing like that seems to be happening, but that just might be my perception.
