Welcome to The Rebel Faction; use at your own risk.
So you want to create a faction? That's excellent. We, as a community, encourage your enthusiasm!
That said, allow me to take a moment to share with you the responsibilities and burdens of owning and operating a faction here at TRF.
1. Getting Started: Where Wes cited a three member requirement to start a faction, this is not in fact the case. It was, for quite some time, hence the confusion on said subject however in recent history stipulations have been provided for factions that do not suit the old, out-dated paradigms. In truth all you really need to get a faction moving, now, is an idea.
However, this is deceptive for in fact much more should be considered. These things are less direct and thus less obvious but go a long way to easing, assuring that your faction can be properly integrated with TRF. One such issue would be knowledge; that is to say your understanding of TRF and its dynamic nature. We have a long history and it goes a long way, spending some time getting familiarized with that history, before the actual manifestation of your faction - this is for our current membership as much as for you. You may have experience at other forums, you may even know some of our membership but unless you brand yourself a TRF'er true and blue, you'll just end up wasting a lot of your time and energy (and ours). We are a very elite bunch and we value our little community highly - you'll notice that none of our part-time members maintain any factions of note.
2. Making a Go - Many people, we call them nubs, stumble across TRF and do just as you have, no offense. They jump right in where the water is over their heads and swimming with sharks. Their efforts go unrewarded, their work disregarded, and by and large they end up leaving us cold (speaking of which, anyone seen Smarts?) with unfinished stories which hurts us as members and gives us more problems then solutions as a community. Having members helps, particularly if you recruit from within - but simply knowing a person from this community or that, outside of TRF, is not enough (and you'll want to steer clear of any Fearsons references as speaking to your character) or rather, will be a short-fall when you find yourself faced with intra-community adversity.
Fundamentally I am echoing the statements made by others; that the best course of action is to wait until you have some time invested, for your protection and ours.
There are other less quantifiable reasons to hesitate before submitting for faction application, but the above should, I hope, be enough to dissuade you, at least for the time being, from such a course of action.
If you are dead-set on developing your own faction, keeping in mind that you do not need a faction for the sake of a character and that there are other factions in existence already which you could much easier join, be sure you do all your research and ask for help where applicable. The course ahead, if you elect to proceed, will be fraught with complications so be prepared to endure a certain level of difficulty and hardship (much of which may well come from the fingers of our members).
Good luck, whatever you elect to do.
