A Poll (To Settle a Dispute)

Dolash and I have reached an impasse. We have two very different views on the reaction of the populace of Anoat to a variety of events that have occured over a span of several posts, in different threads. Dolash does have the rules on his side; but a after we had a long and very philosophical debate via AIM, he graciously suggested a OOC poll of TRFs members to resolve it. I would like to comend him for such a good idead, and express how much respect he has earned in my eyes by taking that option, no matter the outcome. Anyway:

Is a link to the orginal takeover of the planet by the departed Admiral Griff. or those who haven't read it (I would ask you to read it, but I doubt anyone will so) entails a very violent and bloody ORS crackdown on a planet withing its sphere of influence trying to gain independence for the Ison corridor. The goup, known as the Liberty Sect is radical and wishes to throw off ORS rule of the corridor (which it controlled before the most recent galactic war) and form its own government.

Griff launches an attack and fights a violent trench war with a heavily armed fanatical foe. Finally after months, the Liberty Sect is overwhelmed by overwhelming ORS forces and firepower, as well as some unique tactics.

Fast forward to after the Galactic War. ORS collapses, and is merged into the GC. The GLF comes out with the Upheaval post, and in those attacks allies itself with a resurgent Liberty Sect. The fact that the Liberty Sect endures is given by Griff himself, who says in the end of his post that this i not the last time he fears the ORS will deal with them. There leader had escaped th conflict and was said to be regrouping.

The Liberty Sect captures hostages on the world of Ison, helping to fufill the GLF goal as well as try and bargain for their own war torn world. The GC strike team takes out the Liberty Sect terrorist, not endearing the Anoat people, who support the Sect to the GC.

The Liberty Sect continues to stir up revolution on Anoat, trying older ways to forcibly move the GC. The GC fights back with its own propganda. Then in this thread: http://therebelfaction.com/forums/showthread.php?t=674

the orginal Upheaval thread, a Liberty Sect member pirates the planet wide holonet and gives a message to the people. The reaction is detailed here:

***********

I said all that to say this:

I am of the opinion that the people of anoat no longer wish to be in the Galactic Coalition, that they have been under the yoke of others far too long, and wish to form their own independent government. Dolash and I have agreed to listen to the opinions of the other TRF players ont his issue. A poll will be conducted after Dolash posts in this thread, and TRFers can vote what they think should happen.

So read, then vote. Its you civic duty.

Hum. I'll have to give a read to the threads tomorrow, or the next day, so I don't vote blindly.

Interesting though. I too commend Dolash for his choice of action here.

Save us the painful extra effort of having to press yet another button, and go draw straws yourselves.

Ok, a little note on the planet of Anoat. It is a multicultural world at an important galactc crossroad, if I remember correctly. Now, that means its' very hard to just assume what the culture of the planet would be or the standards of morals they would have. My argument at time relies on their moral framework vaguely resembling average human moral frameworks, such as killing is wrong, stealing is bad, discussing things in a civilised manner is a better way to solve problems, etc.

All right, so my argument is that the people of Anoat would not want to break away from the Coalition, based on three points the Coalition has gone to considerable lengths to inform the people on. The first point is that a Coalition is an assembly of soverign nations working together, like an Alliance. Now, the New Coalition is a little tighter then a bunch of countries who just happen to work together, but its' still the general idea. Think the UN only everyone shares the same flag and military.

The second point is that the Coalition really is doing good things for Anoat. The Anoat government is also doing good things for Anoat, but as a fairly war-torn planet they could really use outside support, which is what the Coalition is sending. Now, for those who felt being part of the Coalition is still too much of a commitment, this should help sway them, because who would sensibly reject the aid and friendship of loads of other people for the cause of superficial freedom?

The third and last point - which I have illustrated to the people of Anoat and although has been labled as propaganda is completely true if the Battlegrounds are to be believed - is that the Liberty Sect and Galactic Liberation Front have both killed and terrorized, and both attempt radicalist goals through terror and death. What could easily be accomplished with a strong political mouvment or party they chose to deal with by blowing up people. Assuming the morality of Anoat closely matches that of ourselves, its' safe to say that these massive and at times mind-bogglingly random acts of violence would be seen unfavourably by the people. Would they really want to associate with the organization that dumped poison on Tammar? Or set fire to Garqi?

Anyways, Brutus wishes to post the poll.

I've done my best to disable them, as they annoy me.

If you don't care enough to post, you don't care enough to be counted as a supporter. Eliminates rigging as well, since I can check IPs of voters who post, but not those who merely answer polls.

Oh, ok.

So um. I guess me and Brutus will have to request that people post their vote on wether Anoat would be for or against staying with the Coalition, and we'll tally the posts afterwards.

Should those people that are part of each group be included or excluded from this vote?

*Shrug* I don't mind either way, ask Brutus.

I don't care. I mean, neither the Union nor GC have a huge horde of members to spam and upset the boat.

Either way is fine- so why not let everyone vote.
