There were plenty of times when hell Ancient Rome conquered entire nations or city states with only one battle. Albeit several charges, but one battle.
When an enemy is forced into a strategic loss, and their forces are about to be destroyed, they are able to surrender to end the war. I laid down my terms of surrender, they could either accept it or I'd attack them. It was that simple.
