The defences on Glee Anselm would be too few to stop even a moderate fleet, and the garrison small enough to write off as pirates. The fleet in orbit is a reclimation fleet of some kind, so we'd hardly bust our way through with combat ships because they're civilians. We can't show up to participate in the clean up, because so far as they're concerend we're responsible for the biological attack. We can't hope to clear our names since the Empire is frankly the master of Propaganda, and since you have control of the planet right now you have time to arrange the evidence to say whatever you like. We can't even take back our own people because by the time we convinced you they weren't pirates they'd already be dead.

Painting the Onyxians as roguish, pirate types and accusing us of being "no better" than the Empire gets my blood boiling, since if the situation was reversed the Empire would just bloodily hack and slash it's way through anyone - who for any reason - tried to get between the Empire and their rightful territory. When I'm mad I make poor decisions, and your piece was so well written my gut reaction was to blame Joren and the Onyxians for their poor handling of the situation than you for your exploitation of it, thus creating internal divisions and slowing our response time. Nevermind the fact that you're making your move while our resources are spread thin and are destroying the base of our newest members before they can even get started.

It looks like even the best option for this situation is still to come to the Empire on bended knee and ask for our guys back in return for something, just hoping that you follow through on the deal.
