Captian Ellian Nullor took a moment to slide back into his comfortable command chair, a star destroyer issued chair that he had 'appropriated' from one of his normal visits, and had it custom installed onto the deck of his command ship. The capitan was a Diamalan, and as such as well respected as a hard working and earning sort of being that his race is known for. The fact is though is that the capitan is an exception to the species, in that he delegates authority whenever possible and then takes full credit for the work that his subordinates produce.

His command was the flagship of the 8th Flotilla of the local fleet group squadron, assigned overall to the Imperial Core Defense fleet. It was one of the newly comissioned Stalwart class escort frigates. His previous command, a Nebulon-B2 frigate of some twenty years, was now well on her way to the breakers. In addition to the Shannon, he command two of the new Dasher class corvettes, the Achillies and Ajax, and eight of the also new Fury class gunships, the Orion, Neptune, Flasher, Aeronaticau, Sifo Dyas, Derfflinger, Soyuz, and Naganami. All of these vessels were actually comissioned not in the main drive yards of the Empire, but in smaller yards by member planets of the New Order, comissioned with names representing those worlds and crewed by armed forces of their respective species.

While this arrangement led to worry by some of issues concerning cooperation, so far all of the worlds partaking in the program had proven competent. Anyways, besides his command, captian Nullor's task was to safely escort a convoy moving from a heavy industrial world to a shipyard planet, carrying supplies that would be used to fit out several vessels that were due to comission into the Imperial navy within a standard week. There were eight Titan class transports in the convoy, along with two fleet tugs. The tugs were transporting two Shrouds that had recently been launched and fitted out, and were being moved from the secret yards where valuable ships were built to the public yards to recieve their furnishings. One of the Titan class ships was carrying a loadout of missiles for several ships, including proton torpedoes, space bombs, and diamond boron class missiles. Another Titan was fitted out in a starfighter carrying role, transporting a total of thirty six each TIE Defenders and TIE-2 class starfighters. A third Titan was fitted out to transport vehicles, and embarked a company of one hundred of the new ACCI type ground combat troops. And finally, the fourth Titan was fitted out to transport a spare gravity well generator/projector for an interdictor cruiser. Of the other four Titans, one was transporting foodstuffs, another was transporting furniture and furnishings, another one was carrying engine coolant and fuel, and the last one was transporting spare parts for engines and weaponry, including turbolaser barrels and missile tubes.

Right now the convoy was in real space, transiting an area near Commenor in the Core region, the escort frigate in the lead, flanked from behind by the two corvettes, with the eight gunships divided into two lines, each one strung out along one side of the convoy. The ten merchants were divided into two lines of five vessels apeice, the tugs in front followed by the titans in behind. The capitan had recieved intel reports of pirates operating in the area, but had no worries. In addition to his own forces, there were also a pair of medium cruisers shadowing the convoy from a distance, ready to jump in in case anything went wrong. The capitan idled back into the chair, happy and content, not realizing that the two medium cruisers had been drawn away by a fake distress signal sent out from a nearby planet....
