Endgame
What can be said about the Imperial operation known simply as "Endgame" that hasn't already been said?
The final breaking of the New Republic could be linked to the culmination of this operation. The shift in the galactic balance of power from the independent kingdoms of the Jutraalian Empire, the Galactic Defense Initiative, the Naboo Sith Order, and the New Alliance to that of the revitalized Galactic Empire could be attributed to this operation.

It was a plan that used a unique set of assets as they became available and used them to their fullest. It was a plan that, in one swift moment, broke all chains that had held the Imperial Military Command in check:
1. The Sith
2. Imperial Intelligence
3. Economics
..and allowed them to come away with Imperial Center with no one the wiser until the deed was already accomplished.
It was a plan hinged on the Empire having worlds on or close to a major hyperroute for all "roads led to Coruscant". It was a plan that hinged on supplanting an earlier, less grand operation of Imperial Intelligence's called Labyrinthine. It was a plan that relied heavily on the Abolisher Cruiser. It was a plan that required the Sith and Jedi's attention to be diverted for a time. It was a plan that required Imperial Intelligence to be diverted for a time. It was a plan that required the skills of a particular Imperial Intelligence agent. It required a mind that could see the bigger picture and manipulate assets accordingly or take advantage of any given situation to bring about the desired results.
But the real skill was not, in fact, the pulling off of the Endgame operation but, rather, surviving the Endgame operation.
Personalities were used.
Perceptions were altered.
Pride was tapped.
Talents utilized.
and Success rewarded.
An equation that General Simon Kaine made brilliant use of and one that most assuredly not only kept him alive but promoted into a position of nearly unparalleled power.
It is difficult to appreciate the risk to Kaine's person to execute a plan of this complexity without knowing the local and galactic atmosphere he acted within.
First, Darth Exceron was no longer seen by the Imperial High Command, his orders carried to them by Imperial Intelligence acting as a intermediary. It was later found out that Ysanne Isard was actually running the Empire herself having sequestered Darth Exceron out of the way. And with the ambitious Isard keeping her hand on the pulse of the Empire, to move that much military hardware around would have surely captured the notice of her minions. Second, the Sith. Having come off a successful alliance negotiation with Moff Handler, Kaine knew it was only a matter of time before ambition took root within a people not normally given to restraint. Manipulating a whole slew of force users would require a deft hand and cool head. Third, and probably the most determining factor to the whole operation was the reaquisition of several galactic markets to fund a new Galactic Empire. The capture of Coruscant would do no good if the Empire could not afford it. At the time, the entity that had the most controlling interests in the main galactic markets was Cryonics Industries. Kaine knew, if the Empire was to survive, it would need to 'own' these markets, especially with the balance of power shifting.
If he could arrange to maneuver through the maze of Imperial politics to not only implement his plan but to support it financially, all under the nose of Imperial Intelligence, all that remained was the actual logistics of the takoever.
To gain space superiority, extensive use of the Abolisher Cruiser would be required. As the Empire aquired a planet near a major hyperroute as a matter of expansion, squadrons of these deadly vessels were moored there awaiting the command to cut the hyperroutes with their unique weapons. However, to cut the hyperroute against the enemy was to cut those same routes for the Empire as well. So how to get a fleet into the core?
The linchpin was Corulag. Imperial Intelligence was sent to support a the Loyalist Party to win the planet over. Corulag sat on the Corulag-Jatir Hyperroute and so would serve as the funnel from the MidRim. The massive invasion fleet would arrive as a 'show of force' providing the political collateral that served as the catalyst for public confidence in the Pro-Empire Loyalist Party propelling it to victory.
Sending a fleet to Corulag was one thing. But to bring a starfleet into Coruscant orbit was to start a seige and cause the massive population of people to work together cementing them further to the Republican ideology.
No. For Endgame to work, the people would have to be undermined from within. For that, infrastructure on planet was needed. An infrastructure that was later discovered by Kaine's takeover of a lowlevel Imperial Intelligence operation called Labyrinthine. Originally, it was a plan stemming from Ysanne Isard to use a secret Intelligence location on Coruscant codenamed: Siennar District. Imperial Intelligence had used the location to distribute droids fitted with bombs during the New Republic's setting foot on Coruscant. The idea was to eventually use them to sow dissention and confusion but upon uncovering the plot, Kaine had larger ideas. The second discovery was the presence of a Gree Hypergate from Asation to Siennar District found entirely by accident during a series of conquests in the Unknown Regions in a join action between Kaine and Admiral Telan Desaria.
With the infrastructure in place, it was now time to make inroads into the New Republic. Many months prior, an Imperial agent had assumed the identity of a relative in a wealthy Naboo family and worked to ingratiate himself with their young woman who would be coming of age to make a bid for the throne of Naboo. Eventually, the young woman would become the Queen of Naboo and the well placed agent would use her family's relationship with the Jedi and her planet's relationship with the New Republic to ingratiate himself with a Coruscanti Senator and sow seeds of doubt as to the character of the New Republic leaders. All throughout the association, and with the unsuspecting aid of the Senator, the agent found himself elected as Governor of Coruscant, his message of bringing back the old glory days resounding with a people already trying to get by as a subject world rather than the capital of the galaxy (an especially tough prospect for a world that has few natural resources and whose gross product to the galaxy was, at one time, administration).
Poised with an urge to court the leaders of both Naboo and Coruscant, Tenloss was lured into making investments with the Corporate Sector Authority. By gaining a concession from Vinda Corporation to halt it's expansion into the Corporate Sector for six months, Kaine allowed Tenloss of Cryonics Industries to sink himself further into debt. When Vinda finally moved against the Corporate Sector Authority, the value of the CSA credit dropped tremendously leaving Tenloss bankrupt and his holdings nationalized by the Empire. With the Empire in control of the planetary government, the way was paved for Arliss Industries to set up businesses and import security personnel all the while boosting Coruscant's economy and tightening the Empire's tentacles. Enter the Labyrinthine droids that began to cause chaos allowing the planetary government to issue martial law and impose strict protocols outside the concerns of an embattled New Republic Senate. With soldiers funnelling in from the Asation Hypergate (and allied with Arliss Security Personnel) the Empire became entrenched. Feeling the 'terrorist threat', fear kept the population compliant. The idea was to drive the population to the point of having their 'leader' turn to any solution, to find any answer to their problems which, in turn, would eventually allow the solution of 'Empire' to become palatable.
The offer of a return to galactic glory seemed more sweeter than dying free and hungry.
The Corulag vote came in favor for the Empire and the hyperroute to the world soon allowed the Empire's war machinery to move into the Core while the blockade of the other hyperroutes kept a New Republic response from being an option. As the planet changed hands almost overnight, the fleets converged and the blockade lifted.
But what stopped the Republic from responding?
What stopped the other powers from seeing the condition of Coruscant and acting on them as Kaine had done?
Where were the Jedi?
What stopped the other powers from seeing the condition of Coruscant and acting on them as Kaine had done?
Where were the Jedi?
To keep the galactic powers at bay, the Empire entered talks with the Jutraalian Emperor, Chaddwick Fearsons, in a bid to feed his ambitions of toppling the Galactic Defense Initiatve. The Empire fed his desire to bring to the galaxy these Tides of Change and distract Dxun Isstal from any thought of the New Republic. The attacks ended and while GDI was changing government to the System's Commonwealth, Kaine personally went to see Chaddwick Fearsons to keep his focus on Kaine and not the conditions surrounding Coruscant. The ploy worked and he even negotiated the Jutraalian Emperor's unwitting aid in obtaining vessels to further his cause. To keep the New Republic at bay, Telan Desaria struck at Serndipal to stretch the Republic Fleet away from the Core. And with the Republic's attention on an outside threat in Serndipal, another contingent of Desaria's fleet would blockade the Corellian System.
And what of the Jedi? By feeding the Sith's need for revenge and their hatred of the Jedi, they were given support to launch one of the largest attacks against the Jedi Temple ever conceived. If the Sith could not destroy the Jedi totally, it was hoped they would (at the very least) undermine the confidence of the Naboo people in their Jedi protectors. It would also keep the Sith unaware of events unfolding around Coruscant and keep their meddlesome egos away from Kaine's ultimate goal. As a result of the Sith attack, the Gungan population was decimated. It is believed that General Ceel died in the slaughter.
Fueling then-Captain Trachta's desire for control of the ISB, the Internal Security Bureau was used to sift out where Darth Exceron was kept and in turn spirit him away from the clutches of Imperial Intelligence and Ysanne Isard. Being kept in a constant vegetative state, he was in no condition to have the reigns of power returned and so, to stop any resentment from other highly placed military officers towards Kaine's accomplishment, the Regency went to Grand Admiral Hyfe. A very political move by the General.
And Imperial Center was born anew.
But this is all widely known.
A brilliant plan with a successful outcome.
Which is why you will hear nothing of failure.
Which is why you will hear nothing of yet another fleet that was given a purpose and was never heard from again. A fleet lost in the general excitement of success.
However, a fleet where, if it had triumphed, would have given Kaine and the Empire so much more than the holding Imperial Center ever could have...
... everything..
