Warehouse District

A pair of burly security officers watched the unloading of the latest transport with little interest. Stationed on the outside of one of the Criminal Syndicates high security warehouses near the space port, exposed to the elements, was not the most preferred of positions... but, at least it paid well.

This particular transport was not unlike the dozen others that had landed already and offloaded their cargo on this bitter winter day. One of the two men folded his arms together and shivered, teeth clattering inaudibly over the wind.

"...cold?" The other man asked, laughing and sturggling to light the cigarette clasped between his teeth.

"...it's bloody freezing out here, Jimbo." The first man said angrily. "I wish they'd hurry up... this is the last transport of the day, right?"

The other shrugged.

"I dunno. I thougt I heard there was s'posed to be another... but I coulda been wrong."

The other guard swore, and the man laughed.

"It's the last transport... don't get your panties in a bundle."

"@#%$ you, Hart." The man laughed harder.

"@#%$ yourself, Jimbo. It's cheaper. Trust me."

Nearby, the transport was settling down onto its landing skids, and the two guards peered at and silently urged it to hurry up. Almost as if the ship knew that the two men were waiting, the landing ramp crawled to the ground and two men appeared at the top, both holding blaster rifles.

"Hey, Hart... do these guys normally carry assault rifles?" The guard asked. When his partner didn't respond, he turned and found him crumpled on the ground. "Holy @#%$!" He yelled, reaching for his comlink.

Another blast from the transport dropped him to the ground, and then the troops began to pour from the belly of the transport, hitting the ground and fanning out immediatly. At the same instand, another pair of ships landed, these ones heavy lifters, and dropped two towering tanks onto the ground.

These, Imperial XR-85 Tank Droids, rolled forward immediatly, their massive laser cannons swivelling to track the empty grounds. And from the direction of the space port came a dozen Republic Attack Gunships, these landing as well and discourging troops before taking to the air and launching missiles into the defensive installations that were still struggling to come online in the face of the unexpected, overpowering, attack.

"Groundpounders, this is control." A voice crackled over the coms of the present units. "Command has given the green light to commence Operation: Nemesis. Repeat, combat is go green!"

There were cheers from some of the units, and the tank droids rolled forward to crush the front of the main warehouse under their gigantic treads.

Within an hour, it was all over, and the warhouse that had been used to smuggle tonnes of illegal goods and commit random acts of violence was secured by Home Defence Corps. and Planetary Security agents - their fist acts under the orders of the Union of Free Worlds.
