Ragontus Friendly Controlled Starsystem, Outer Rim
Sparrow Command Ship
The captain stared out of the window of his command bridge, looking out at the passing stars as his ship traveled hyperspace. Only a week ago had this ship and ten others had rolled off the assembly line and been crewed.
His bridge still smelled new, the paint, the railings, everything. His bridge was one of a few places that were devoid of any gravity controls, allowing his crew to free float in mid air; he preferred this because it made working easier.
A door opened behind and to his left, he heard the metal boots of a droid walking onto the bridge. He turned around to find that it was indeed a droid, about as tall as he was and hefting a large repeater rifle, the rifle could easily kill anyone on the bridge before they had a chance to react. "Thank you," he said, accepting the report that the droid had just given him.
He turned back toward the window. His ship would be the last Serendivus ship to crew a large crew, all others would mostly crew droids to take the place of human crew, while a small crew would be present to control said droids. He wondered if the reason for this was because of the low number they now had, the Battle of Trandosha had cost them a lot of good men, they'd lost over two thousand on the Soveriegn alone.
"Sir, we've arrived," His helmsman said. The captain nodded and walked back over to his chair and sat down, "signal all ships to cloak the moment they come out of hyper-space, launch jamming probes and keep our straff cannons hot." he ordered and his crew nodded.
Outside space tore apart as ten ships of identical size and proportion came out; a split second later their hulls vanished from space, the only thing that remained was a small fire that exited out of the engine for a fraction of a second, but then it to subsided and vanished.
"Report?"
"Cloaking drives operating at one hundred percent effiency, we're clear sir. Jamming probes have been launched, straff cannons are online at eighty percent charge." An officer said from behind.
"Sensors?"
"Picking up a small battle taking place; looks like the pirates ambushed a group of trading vessels. I count ten unarmed and five armed transports, looks like their escort has been mostly destroyed. Sensors are picking up scattered debris all over the place, remains of what appears to be tie-fighters and x-wings." The sensor officer said.
"If this was still the galactic civil war... I'd say these were imperial ships... but no... that war is over and most government have bought fighters from both sides... analysis of attackers?" The captain asked.
The sensor officer scanned the nearby ships as best she could considering they were cloaked. "Looks like a compliment of fighter, a cruiser, carrier and several frigates. Thats the best I can do while cloaked, I can't determine what their armament is though."
"That'll do." he said and hit fleet wide. "This is Fleet Commander Johnston, all ships launch Reten fighters, order your fighters to go behind enemy fleet and await further orders." he said, he waited until a panel to his left lit up with ten green lights, signifying that all his ships received and understood the order.
In space; a hanger bay door suddenly appeared, the door floated there for several seconds before the doors parted to reveal a launch tube. To the left and right of this hanger bay, several more doors suddenly appeared in space, opening up to reveal launch tubes.
Hanger bay
Inside the hanger bay on board command ship, Lieutenant Major Samson rushed across the flight deck and up the ladder into his fighter. "Corporal keep an eye on our cloaking drives," he ordered. In the seat behind him the corporal nodded, even though Samson couldn't see.
The major flipped through the check list. "Engines check, Weapons check, reflective armor check..." Samson went down the checklist for several more seconds before placing it under his seat; he then hit the switch that sealed the cockpit.
Inside the cockpit the seats suddenly disappeared to reveal the deck beneath the fighter; the two pilots could see three hundred and sixty degrees around and above the craft. "Amazing..." the co-pilot said. "How are our scientists able to create such a thing when they aren't financed by TNO or the Coalition?"
"They are financed by other governments, why do you think we hold such a large presence in certain area's of the outer rim?" Samson said as he felt the gravity in the hanger bay shift. "I hope you had a light lunch," he grinned.
~Red Leader, you are cleared for launched~ Flight control said.
Samson grinned and pulled an old fashioned throttle back, the engines suddenly lit up with fire spewing. The fighter suddenly lurched from it's docked position toward the tube and out of the command ship and into space. "Engaging area jamming..." Samson said as he flew his fighter, and his squadron, toward several dead cruisers that floated in space near the combat zone
He straighten the fighter out, waited, and then his group made their way toward the battle field. "By the way, barf bags are to your right." He said, and a second later he heard someone barf. "Disposal is behind and to your left." he said and then another second later he had a door close. "Next time don't eat before we fight..."
The corporal moaned a response.
Command ship
The fleet commander watched the display; several green dots appered signifying each frigate's fighter squadrons, along with a thin blue line showing where each squadron originated.
"Helm; aim our bow at the carrier." The commander ordered and got on fleet wide. "All captains, initiate fire link," he ordered.
On the weapons panel several green lights appeared, indicating that his ships where now in synchronized fire link mode. "Sir, all our fleets straff cannons are aligned with the carrier."
"Good; send an order to each ships AI to target and different area of the carrier." Said the commander, his weapons officer nodded and relayed the AI Order to the ships own AI computer, a second later the order was processed by the other frigates.
A grin bore across the captain's face. "Right into the depths of hell, disengage cloak and fire!" he shouted. While they didn't need to decloak to fire, he just wanted to show the pirates what they were up against.
Space suddenly came alive when ten frigates suddenly appeared each one had a angry red ball of energy on their forward bows. The energy continued to collect until the field surrounding it could no longer expand, suddenly, as if on cue, every ships beam cannons fired at once.
Ten red angry beams of super heated energy criss crossed space, intercepting each others paths. The space around each beam heated up to a point were it gave off a purple hue that looked terrifying. As the beams continued through space, one of the pirate cruisers apperently had been monitoring space beyond the battle and picked up on the attack.
The cruiser's engines lit up and moved in front of the carrier; it managed to intercept all of the beams, but the hull of the cruiser was so weak that the beams passed straight on through the hull and out the other end, impacting against the carriers shields.
The shields warped and lit up before popping, allowing the beams to slam into the hull. Several seconds later the beams began moving in various directions, segregating the hull and slicing it apart.
A bright flash of light suddenly enveloped space as one of the beams found the carriers main reactor and punchered the containment field; causing the ship to go nova, and thus engolfing the cruiser that had tried to protect it.
Several more flashes occuried in space as the Sparrow frigates unleashed a salvo of MAC rounds upon the pirates various frigates. Some of the rounds just slammed against the shields and did no damage, but others pass harmlessly through and damaged the hulls.
"Missile launchers... FIRE!" The commander ordered. Space filled up as over a hundred missiles were launched from the Sparrows, the missile crossed space and impacted against several of the frigates, their shields doing little to stop the onslaught of missiles.
"MAC guns... FIRE!" More MAC rounds flew through space, impacting and seriously damaging several frigates.
The last six enemy frigates came about and began to run.
Deep space, around the point the frigates were heated.
"Red, Gold, Blue, Cyan, Black squadrons. ENGAGE!" The red leader shouted. In front of the enemy frigate formation, over forty or so fighters suddenly appeared in space from behind several peices of cruiser debris, their normal gray hull was replaced with a terrifying display of black and purple colors stripped across the hull, this caused several of the enemy fighters to suddenly break away and flee.
Red leader spun his fighter around as the enemy unleashed it's compliment of X-wings and Y-wings, along with A-wing's and Tie-interceptors. "Huh, those relics?" the corporal said as he pegged several incoming Tie's. "Targets painted."
Samson grinned. "Good!" he said as engaged the afterburners on his fighter and flew past the enemy formation; he hit the fighters space brakes and spun around, engaging the engine and spiraling toward them. Space lit up as he opened up on the tie interceptor with his crafts single cold fusion particle cannon, the cannon ripped the interceptor to peices, leaving nothing but molten metal floating in space.
"Interception; behind." The corporal said and looked behind him; two x-wings came up behind and unleashed their own hail of fire. "Engaging Vampire System," Samson said and flipped a switch, a blue field suddenly surrounded the craft as the beams impacted against the field, causing no harm. On a dash panel to the corporals left, he saw the cold fusion's energy reading suddenly go up with each hit.
"Energy readings going into the orange," His co-pilot said. Samson nodded and pulled hard on the stick, the craft shut up into a loop and came up behind the two enemy fighters. "Disengage Vampire System," he ordered the corporal who shut the system off.
Samson disengaged the link on his four taim and bak laser cannons and squad to quad fire; space filled as he pressed his finger against the firing knob. One X-wing blew to pieces when the fighters engines got hit, the other tried to do a loop but realized that it was worthless to be in a head on one fight against this ship, the x-wing leveled off and flew into the remains of the cruisers.
A smile creased Samsons face. "Well well... we have a veteran pilot on our hands," he said as he followed the x-wing into the bowels of the destroyed cruiser, dodging destroyed support beams along the way. "Major, sensors are picking up several non-detonated ordinance ahead."
"Mines... so this x-wing is equiped to launch mines.... my how the pirates are able to equip their ships.." Samson said, he seemed almost impressed.
His fighter lurched as he engaged the afterburners and flew past four mines that floated in space, the mines exploded a short time later, their motion sensor systems only just 'now' realizing that something was in the area. The explosion riped apart the hull in that area and caused that section of the cruiser to begin floating away.
The x-wing ahead of them flew over and under support beams and destroyed decks; the pilot trying despretly to lose his pursuers. When he came to an opening into space he released his final mine in hopes that the small exit would make it hard, if not impossible, for his pursuer to get him.
As his X-wing flew off into space a warning alarm suddenly engaged, warning him that his fighter had been locked on by a torpedo, all the pilot managed to say was 'shit' before the craft was blew apart.
Samson laughed as he flew past the debris. "Veteran pilot; but stupid all the same. Never relax just because you don't see your opponant," he said.
"Major; the other squadrons report that the area has been cleaned up. Enemey frigates have either been disabled or destroyed." The corporal said and the Major nodded. "Well damn... I was hoping we'd have a chance to take one out.. ah well." he said and aimed his fighter for home.
Around him debris floated aimlessly; peices of destroyed fighters and even the escorts for the trade convoy. He looked to his left and watched as a new escort fleet jumped into the system, they took up position around the trading convoy and soon there after they jumped into hyperspace.
