Barab I

"Hutts of the Vosadii Clan," began Shessa, "it is time for us all to face reality. The great Hutt civilization has replaced by Imperial oppression and Desilijic tyranny. Our borders have bee overrun by foreigners, and our allies, the Nikto, the Klatooinians, the Nimbanese, and the Vodran, are subjucated by outside powers, or fear the foreigners too much to aid us. The power balance of the galaxy has changed, and we Hutts have been handed the shaft."

The Hutts of the Vosadii Ruling Council began to stir. Older Hutts whispered with their Majordomos. Younger Hutts talked amongst themselves.

"What is your great.. plan Shessa?" asked Neza the Younger sarcastically.

Shessa fixed him with the mean orange eyed glare that only a fully matured Hutt could manage, then continued, "The Vosadii clan must be restored to the greatness our forefathers managed: spice, slaves, smuggling, and conguest. After that, We. Must. Unite. The clans. Then will the Hutt Empire of Kossak be restored to its former glory."

The Hutts of the council were in an uproar. Such a thing as uniting the clans had never been suggested; it bordered on heresy. But... these desperate times called for desperate and even border line heretical measures.

"To bring Vosadii back to glory, we need a strong leader. The Ruling Council takes too long to make decisions. To survive, we must be ready to act, not argue."

Both you and old agreed with that.

Neza the Younger spoke up again, "who will lead us Shessa? You?"

Shessa nodded as best as slug like Hut could.

"Friends! Our ancestors have sent me visions. They have empowered me with knowledge, strength and will to bring us our objective."

Neza interrupted, "Can't you see? He just wants power! He has a second agenda! If none of you will, then I will stand in his way. I will lead you!"

Ignorant pup... Go back to your mother's pouch... How did you manage to weasel your way on to the Ruling Council; you're not fit to manage a brothel. Your mother should have had you killed at birth... runt...

Shouts of support from the younger members of the council yelled in support of Neza. These were answered by shouts of support from the elder. Then order was return.

"There will be order within this council! Order! Order! Order!" When Jazelta the Elder spoke, all was silent. "Voting is not our way when deciding a new leader. These two will meet in hand to hand combat in the arena! Our new leader will emerge one week from today! Council dismissed!"

The Hutts of the council left the cramped room until only Shessa and Jazelta remained. The old Hutt maneuvered his hover sled over to Shessa. His silvery white braids swange back and forth. They seemed to exude wisdom.

"You must not allow Neza the Foolish to win. If our leader, he will destroy us. Nothing but war with the other clans. Just like his father..."

"Thank for you blessing wise one. You will be done," said Shessa as he slivered out of the room.

He had training to do.

"You must put your back into ze punchez Shezza," lectured the Barabel fighting trainer Skahduk in accented Huttese.

Shessa let loose a deep belly laugh at this comment.

"Hutts don't have a back bone or any bones for that matter. We have only a mantle," said Shessa as he hit the punching bag with a few more mediocre punches.

The lizard like Barabel shrugged, "thenz you must putz ze mantlez into ze punches Lord Shezza."

Shessa shook his head as he angled himself differently towards the puching bag.

"Silly Barabel, when I defeat the arrogant Neza in Alater-ka Arena, it will not be done with strong punches, but the death blow will come from my tail, the strongest part of the Hutt form."

Shessa whipped his tail back and knocked the punching bag off its hinges.

Skahduk nodded in approval, "why do you even require my zervizes, Lord Shezza?"

Shessa let loose another deep belly laugh, "because I enjoy proving people wrong, and I like you Skahduk. You and your family have been loyal to the Vosadii Clan for many, many years.

The door to the training room opened, and Weedan, Shessa's Rodian Majordomo, strode in looking very worried.

"My lord, we have a perimeter breach. Our security forces are moving to contain it, but they are being hunted down one by one."

"Weedan, I want you to turn down the lights. Only leave the ultraviolet spectrum lights on."

Weedan typed in the command on his datapad as Shessa wiggled over to a small door. He typed in a code on the keypad and the door slid open with a hydraulic hiss.

"Put these on!” ordered Shessa as he handed the two night vision goggles.

Weedan checked his datapad again. “The darkness is delaying the intruders, but they seem to know the layout of the compound.”

“Neza…” growled Shessa. He pulled something else from the closet, a large repeating blaster, too heavy for any being other than a Hutt.

The three aliens could hear the intruders outside the training room, setting a charge against the heavy blast door. Shessa readied his repeater. Weedan pulled a blaster pistol from his cloak. Skahduk raked his claws against the wall.

The charge when off blowing a clean hole through the door. Smoke billowed into the room, obscuring vision even more. Skahduk caught the first intruder with a talon in the throat, but backed off when Shessa opened up with repeater.

Shessa let out a howl when random shots coming through the blasted hole caught him in the stomach. His layers of fat would protect him for now. The firing stopped, and the smoke began to clear.

“Are they all dead?” Weedan asked aloud.

“Thiz Barabel hopez zo.”

Clink…

“What was that?” wondered Shessa.

Weedan looked back at Shessa and saw what it was. A concussion grenade had landed within a meter of the great Hutt. Skahduk ran towards it, so he could try to kick away.

“No! Keep away from it!” yelled Weedan as he launched himself towards it. The Rodian landed chest down on top of the grenade. Shessa and Skahduk heard a muffled thump as it exploded.

* * *

Shessa slid the disk in that contained Weedan’s will. The majordomo’s family stood by tearfully as well.

Dear family,

I leave everything to you: the house, the ship, and all of my financial assets to you. Use them to do what you wish. I care not.

Shessa:

I regret that I have earned nothing worthy of you, but I do have one request. Please consider my two eldest sons for the now vacant Majordomo position. I have taught them everything that I know, and I am sure they will perform to your satisfaction. Thank you for all the years under you wing
.

All Shessa could do was nod. He could not bear to look Weedan’s family in the eye, especially his wife.

Her husband has already died in my service. Will she lose her two sons as well?

A tear fell from Shessa’s large orange eye.

Neza will pay…
