Vihie studied the limited starcharts he possessed, looking for another world that was habitable for the remaining Master he had left to deliver to a new home. The task was difficult and wearing, but he was dedicated to it, thanks to constant attention and reminders from the Master, whom resided snugly inside this large black, shiny ball that was in his cargo bay. The Master didn’t need to come out of that ball to communicate with him, for he could hear her voice in his head and could read his mind for any response he needed to give.

He hardly remembered a time without the Masters, which arrived on his homeworld over five years ago. Vihie just remembered being well cared for provided he obeyed and worked hard, and work hard he did, like many others of his people. Their word was law, their will was to be obeyed and those that didn’t, or couldn’t, became food for the Masters. Order will be maintained for the good of all, they had explained. Separating the weak from the strong made their people stronger as a whole, they said. Vihie agreed with that logic, whether it was truly by his own will he didn’t now, or care.

Vihie had just found what he believed to be a suitable planet for the Master on the chart when the ship suddenly shook violently, nearly throwing him out of his seat.

~What was that?~ He heard the Master’s voice in his head. ~Report~

Running scans to find out Master. He replied as he quickly started inputting commands on the console. The ship was jerked again, the nose of the craft suddenly turning to one side, giving Vihie a view of what was causing the ship to shake.

It seemed the fabric of space itself was being twisted and ripped apart right before his eyes. Several more shudders coursed the ship as the phenomenon grew into a rotating disk, looking much like that of a whirlpool. Vihie had never seen the likes of which before and his black eyes widened with awe.

~It’s worm hole.~ The Master hissed warningly in his head. ~Avoid it!~

Compelled to obey, Vihie focused his attention on the ships controls, turning the ship around and putting the engines at full power. However it did little good.

It’s no use Master. The gravitational pull is too strong!

There was silence, save for the ships hull groaning from the stress of the engines fighting against the pull of the wormhole. It could only mean the Master was thinking about what to do about this, though Vihie couldn’t see what else could be done.

~Reverse course. Go into the worm hole~ The Master finally bid him.

There was an inkling of doubt in Vihie’s mind, which the Master smoothed away with her reassuring thoughts. Without question he turned the ship toward the worm hole and within moments the ship was sucked into it’s gaping maw.

In a sector of the galaxy far from Vihie’s homeworld, a second worm hole opened and spat out a badly battered ship before winking out of existence, leaving no evidence of it having ever existed. Inside, Vihie was just waking from being knocked unconscious mid way through the worm hole, feeling pain in many places over his furry body and he could barely hear the Master’s voice.

~Report.~ She insisted, repeatedly.

Vihie pulled himself to his feet, wincing in pain as he slid back into his pilots chair. Engines are gone. Reactor is unstable. Leaking atmosphere. Most of the console is non-functional, including communications. No idea where we are. And I’m not feeling good myself.

~Are the sensors operational?~ The Master asked.

Barely.

~Any other ships, any planets, close by?~

Vihie, his hand shaky and weak due to blood loss, thumbed the controls to start a scan. There were no planets close, but he did detect a ship. There’s a ship close to us, much bigger. He was finding it harder and harder to think straight Not of Ce-Cika make. Can’t tell if it spotted us. A dizzy spell hit him, causing him to fall out of his chair. He tried to get up but his limbs were failing him. Master…I am dying.

~You have done your task.~ The Master said calmly. ~I will take it from here.~

The Master was merciful, using her mind powers to end his life painlessly. Mercy was not the Skrakion Queen’s intent however, for it would have been too risky to leave the slave alive and rescued by that ship. There were many unknowns in this galaxy, if she was still in the same galaxy as the Queen Matriarch, and it was possible there was a race that knew how to break the enthrall hold on the slave and reveal their base of operations. Granted, it had yet to happen to the Skrakion’s knowledge, but it was something they could not afford to risk so early in the Spread into this galaxy. Besides, new slaves will be easily obtained.

The Skrakion Queen sent out a mental call in the direction of the ship her former slave told her about, a call of distress that sounded perfectly genuine. The young Queen wasn’t big enough yet to probe the minds of those aboard that ship at this distance, but the distance will be closed soon enough.
