The Sins of Science

Throught time and history, science has contributed to a number of grand events, both wonderful and terrible. The discovery of the hyperdrive, the invention of bacta tanks, the creation of the first droids. But with every shining moment there is a terrible shadow cast where other technologies, quite terrible in design and purpose, have been created. Some have been masked in the illusion of good, like droid armies for self defense that end up being used for massive wars. Then there are the more obvious evils like large spaceships equipped with a very large laser of the planet destroying variety often under the command of someone with a fetish for black clothing, red lightsabers, and telekinetic strangulation. Is it any wonder then that cloning hasn't had its ups and downs, time and again its techniques have been used to generate large armies for the purposes of prolonged and bitter wars.

That is the obvious evil of cloning, one the Union itself has abused to its fullest extent with the creation of its hordes of fanatical necrotroopers. The Union could fight a ground war easily, space was a problem they would worry about along the way. However, the more subtle evils of cloning have more often the not been ignored. What would happen if the Union created clones of famous historical figures? What if there was a Simon Kainne or a Dolashh out their waiting to replace the original and give the Union such a frightening level of control over such massive governments that no one could comprehend it. It was an idea but the Union was being more practical at this moment and had decided, well to say it decided ment more that the Chairman had decided and given the specific orders, but we'll say the Union decided anyways.

Instructions were issued, agents were dispatched, threats were made. The Union recieved what it wanted. A mummy.

The mummy itself was curled into a position of utter agony, which is to be understandable as it was extricated from an ancient torture cell deep within the bowels of a palace on Nal Hutta and preserved by the lack of moisture or organisms to consume the remains as was desired by the Hutts of long ago. The position made little difference though as all they wanted was its genetic makeup and then a bit of neural scanning of the anciet dried up brain in the skull. After that, the samples were turned over to Doctor Mengax, eager as ever to do some new and interesting research for the Union. This latest experiment was one that could prove most fruitful in the entire field of cloning, though it the Union sure as hell wasn't going to share whatever it discovered. First things, first though. Clones had to be made.

Doctor Mengax was given yet another set of laboratories on the Forge for this latest project and anothter large staff with limitless funding to manage. It was a perk the good Doctor enjoyed greatly and thus remained quite loyal since the only other choice of course was to get his throat slit open from ear to ear and left to die in a pool of his own blood. Thus, it wasn't a very hard choice to make since Mengax was not a masochist, maybe a sadist, but not a masochist in the slightest.

So the cloning tubes arrived, another shipment this time of specially made high quailty models designed specfically for this project. All that was left was the creation of the clones and commencement of the real experiment. The awakening of genetic memories. It was a crazy and even deranged theory but it never hurt to try something and if the Union succeeded in this, they would have someone quite worth having in their employ. Sadly though, the clones would have to be slowly grown or risk clone madness which the Union couldn't fix with the good old fashioned method of cutting a piece of the brain out and putting cybernetics in its place. These clones had to be pure and intact.

Thus it began, the genetic samples were inserted into the cloning tubes and the growth cycle started...
