The actual planet of Hoth appeared insipid next to the other sights in the Hoth system. A big snowball plopped randomly onto the black canvas of deep space, and 3 huge shipyards that appeared as tiny specs from this distance. A meager defense fleet.

To the port, the Hoth System's blue-white sun gleamed brilliantly through the expansive asteroid belt that littered much of the Ison Corridor. Two planets had crashed billions of years ago to create the nightmarish hazard that was the Hoth asteroid belt.

It made one wonder how many more asteroid fields would be created by less… natural means... if the Empire did not put a stop to the sinister plans unfolding here.

Two of the planets three moons were visible from the fleet's vantage point, as they made their wide looping orbit of Hoth.

Daemon Hyfe could see the fourth moon too. The artificial moon. The monstrous space station dubbed the "Death Star". That colossal super-weapon designed to enforce the late Emperor's rule through terror, presenting both the symbol and reality of ultimate destructive power.

Data from the Hoth system had been streaming to Fleet Intelligence for weeks now. Yes… Intel's links had been feeding information on the proceedings at Hoth via various means.

The assault here was prepared beyond the limits of belief. The New Order had contingency plans. They had contingency plans for the contingency plans. Plan A. Plan B. Plan C. Plan D. The Empire was always prepared. Always ready.

It would be impossible to fail.

Everything had been accounted for. There would be no surprises.


The assault force could only be described as… massive… Massive ships. Massive numbers. A massive objective.


Kilometer long warships lurched through space, ebbing towards their inexorable goal.

The blue-white sun of the Hoth system danced across the black hull of the Ebony Vigilance, the asteroid belt casting shadow on shadow in an erratic manner.


The Fleet was dropping into formation.



Grand Admiral Daemon Hyfe sucked in a long breath of the many-times-recycled air of the Eclipse-Class Super Star Destroyer. He hadn't had to say anything since the fleet had dropped out of hyperspace at the precisely calculated point and time.

The ship was primed for battle. The fleet was grouping into its pre-designated formation.

Abolishers lagged behind, taking up formation to the rear of the vast fleet, and coming slowly to life. The flanking formation would assure that no enemy ships would drop in behind in an attempted trap. They need not worry about catching friendly craft in their web of destruction, as all divisions had pre-designated exit vectors to assure their safety.

The Fleet was still on the outskirts of the system, well beyond maximum scanning range. They hadn't been detected yet. The ships were running silent, using Shrouds as their eyes and ears.

Steel gray eyes focused relentlessly on the battle station in the distance, a look of malice carved onto Hyfe’s aged, hawk-like face. His disgust for the Rogue Empire was well known to his crew. Well known to the Empire. Well known, perhaps, to much of the galaxy.

Today, the Empire would make them suffer.

It was time.

The soldiers of the Galactic Defence Iniative stationed on the Death Star knew it as soon as the first words left the Supreme Commander's mouth.

War.

The GDI troops did not fear, did not worry. They were solemn, ready for anything.

Soon later the Rogue Imperial traitors would come to haul them away. They wouldn't allow that.

When the door opened, the first soldier raised his blaster and sent a flurry of shots through it.

The Imperial collapsed in a pool of blood, as did the next one... and the next one... and the next one.

The other soldiers joined in the fray, their powerful weapons driving back the traitors.

Then they bagn to spill into the cooridor. Hundreds, more than a thousand of them, clumping and clanking across the decks of the mighty Death Star.

The pitiful soldiers of the Rogue Empire could not stop them. They were cut down like rag dolls. The other troops, Hapan and Tholatin, were spared. Those that fought were dropped with stun bolts. Those that surrendured were left to their own.

But no mercy was given to the Rogue Empire. In perfect unison, without blinking or cringing as the Rogue Empire's troops were slaughtered, they marched on.

The Galactic Defence Initiative had come.

And the battlecries of their war droids echoed throughout the cooridors of the Death Star...

"Give me an update on those abolishers, Ensign."
"Long-range sensors detect abolisher fields at point one seven nine, sir, mass at thirteen lemelisks. They're too far out to do any damage to the fleet, but we should stay cautious."

Newly-promoted Admiral Aevan Drakiss nodded, and paced across the bridge to look over the shoulder of another Ensign who was studying his readout.

"Our weapons systems are ready, Ensign Ridley?"
"Aye, sir, that they are. Everything from the heavy turbolasers to the cook's taste in bliel sauce. The legion has reported crews on General Quarters, emergency sidearms at the ready. Even the probots have been fitted with detonators, and can be launched if needed. We're ready, Admiral. As ready as we'll ever be."

Aevan smiled. They would do fine.

"Activate our shipborn holocams. When this battle is decided, we'll transmit them back to the HoloNet. Give the people a chance to cheer for us. Transmit our updated sensor findings to Grand Admiral Hyfe's flagship, and alert Engineering to bring us to hyperspace terminus."

Out the viewport, the dark blue-ish hue of the hyperlane reverted to the pimpled void of realspace, and the stars shuddered to a halt. The legion formed up in staggered arrowhead formation, nearly 200 starships strong.

"Alert TIE Command: Launch defense-allotted fighters, and have them form up as screeners and flankers. Starfighters allocated to offensive duties are to hold at standby. All crews are to remain at their fighters. Alert the Attack Spheres that all TIE Devils are to switch to Remote-Command primarily and Droid-Command secondarily. Alert the Shroud Cruisers to move forward and scan the enemy lines, and transmit back. Abolisher squadron three is to move to Reserve Sector MG-7 and activate on full; all other Abolisher cruisers are to maintain course and likewise activate."

The orders went out, the crew rapping against the consoles all at once, and Aevan studied the tactical mapping screen.

"Hail Grand Admiral Hyfe's flagship. He'll be wanting an update," he said, and received a reply of <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> aye, sir<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->.

The full-size holoimage of Grand Admiral Daemon Hyfe appeared on the screen. His nose was disproportionate to the size of his head, his cheeks seemed hollow, his lips were unnaturally red, and his eyes reminded Aevan of orange craters. Finally, he was wearing a hood. Aevan blinked, wondering if it was raining on the Admiral's flagship, but quickly moved the thoughts aside.

"Grand Admiral Hyfe, my command is ready."

"Excellent," the Grand Admiral intoned, focusing on the flickering holo-image of the recently promoted Admiral Aevan Drakiss. "Our fleet support friends should be initiating Phase A as we speak. Maintain formation on the approach vector. Captain Essian reports that contingency theta contacts are established and awaiting orders. One can only hope they will not be needed. I have full confidence in you, Admiral Drakiss. Glory to the Empire."

"For the Empire."

The connection was cut and the Admiral's image flicked and shrunk away into nothingness.

Daemon left the holo-pods at the rear of the enormous Eclipse-Class Super Star Destroyer's bridge and returned to his command chair, easing into his seat with gratuitous care.

"The superlaser has begun charging, Admiral." Came the voice of Captain Davin Essian.

"Good. She’s been dormant for far too long."

"Yessir," the Captain agreed with an optimistic grin.

"ETA to scanning range?"

"Still another 5 minutes, Admiral."

The low hum of bridge chatter was the only response the Captain got for several seconds.

"Defensive screen fighter groups have been deployed?"

"Aye, sir. Attack Groups Alpha through Omega standing by. Attack Spheres at the ready, Devils on remote command as per orders."

"Very good," the Admiral offered. "Signal to the General. ETA to launch destination: 8 minutes. Ready the drop ships."

"Right away, sir."

The Grand Admiral thought for a moment, and then offered Captain Essian a nod of dismissal.

"Superlaser charged!" a crewman announced some time later.

"ETA to scanning range… 3 minutes, Admiral," the Captain informed him from his post.


The Behemoth awaited.

Inside Jilaeek

The stormtroopers had been set out immediately after hearing word of the Galactic Defense Initiative's betrayal, including the five darktroopers stationed there. However, word had indeed reached them as well of their current rampage through the diplomatic quarters.

There were no Rogue Imperial troops there. Only diplomats, Hapans, and Tholatins...they were murdering Emperor Fearsons's guests. Immediately the first contingency plan was put into action, one of the dark troopers had found their way into the diplomatic quarters, returning the fire as quickly and as determinedly as possible. However no matter how strong a dark trooper was, it could not hope to destroy an entire onslaught of horrific war droids.

The Galactic Defense Initiative was not trying to form peace...they were trying to murder diplomats. How unbelieveably pathetic. When the last of the diplomats were herded out - which the war droids chased after viciously - the dark trooper attempted to hold them at bay, rebuked by stormtroopers who managed to take down one or two of them. That cost two storm troopers in the process.

Finally the doors were sealed off, and the Force enhanced dark trooper was again on the prowl to ensure no other troops had gotten out.

The stormtroopers took up a common patrol to ensure that there were no Galactic Initiative troops about Jilaeek...and indeed there were none. There was no way out of that room, and there were none who escaped through the one passage way.

Meanwhile Tholatin, Hapan, and New Republic soldiers were being shuffled to their own private embassies, which were promptly sealed from enemy entrance, or from their escaping into the main facility, to prevent them from assaulting Rogue Imperial troops. Each embassy had access to their own private hangar bays, and the ambassadors were being advised to try and escape the system. The Mon Cals had intruded in Rogue Imperial space...they were not supposed to be here...battle was abroad, and judging by the TIE interceptor patrols, the Empire was here as well.

Battle stations were on full alert, the countless shield generators - including the Death Star Defense Shield, the same kind used at the Battle of Endor - were activated.

The commander of the station uttered one simple word.

"Charge the weapons."

Indeed, both weapons were charging.

"And?" Gash said, brushing away a silver-white loch of hair from his face. His query, though subtle, was obviously a prompting for a report on Kasien Treseda's whereabouts.

General Tellien shuffled uneasily, glancing down at his reports. 'And Treseda is where he should be. On the Death Star.'

"You seem uneasy, General."

The dark-haired General glanced up from his gathered datacards only long enough to sigh heavily. He lounged back, shaking his head. 'Why did we do this?'

"Because we had to."

'The Rogue Empire is -- was, our ally. What did they do to deserve this?' Tellien asked, gesturing at the tactical display. 'Why did we let this happen?'

Gash mirthlessly smiled, a sour gesture as had ever crossed his face. "Because he built something that was not supposed to exist. That station, whether intended for good or ill, could only serve to impede freedom. And to further brutality and oppression. The power to take a million lives in a moment is not something that can be made to serve the greater good."

Tellien just stared at Gash for a moment. 'Then why not aid the Empire fully?'

"Our age-old enemies?" Gash snorted. He blinked momentarily, remembering his odd encounter with Aevan Drakiss. "Our choosing not to aid the Rogue Empire was as difficult a decision as attacking them was for the New Order. While we could not allow that station to survive, the Rogue Empire were our allies. And Chadd Fearsons was my apprentice." Gash bit out that last part with the slightest hint of bitterness. "By honor, attacking them would be wrong. As would letting that station's continued existence threaten the galaxy."

'So we did neither. We allowed the Empire to do so, with our secret support.' Tellien finished. 'Then why send forces so late in the game?'

"To evacuate our's. At this point, that station is a danger to all of our people on it. We did not initiate this struggle, but we must take part in it to save those loyal to us."

'I miss the days when knowing where to shoot was the easy part.'

"As do I, my friend," Gash lamented, "As do I."

And so, the Twilight emerged from hyperspace into the Hoth system, even as the Rogue Empire's transmission came across holonet channels...

Jilaeek Station
Kasien Treseda marched dignifiedly down the durasteel hall, clothed in an average armed forces officer's uniform. Near the rear of the group of soldiers being escorted by Rogue Imperial forces to a "safe" position, Kasien was quite aware of what was occuring. As were many of the higher-ranking soldiers that day.

At his wrist, the comlink in his sleeve gave the slightest of electric shocks. Kasien reflexively held it up to his mouth. "Ganymede here."

'Godshammer, Ganymede.' The metallic voice muttered, followed by a click of disconnection.

Kasien reached down, unholdstering his blaster and flicking it to stun. With a graceful step, he smashed the butt of the weapon into the head of the nearest Rogue Imperial guard escort. When the others turned, blasters pointed at him, he said, "Godshammer! Operation go." He put the commlink to his mouth once more, shouting, "Godshammer! All New Republic units, Godshammer!"

The others unholdstered blasters, training them on the Rogue Imperial guards. 'Hey, what the frell --' One exclaimed, but was cut off by Kasien's commanding yell -- a special forces apprehension technique.

"Put your weapons down and your hands behind your head! Surrender! Do it now!" Several of them complied, vastly outnumbered. Two stood, one fired a bolt -- not a stun blast -- at of the New Republic troops. Hit in the gut and flash-fried, he dropped dead instantly.

Kasien leapt towards him, smashing the weapon's butt into his forehead twice in rapid succession. The stunned man staggered back, as Kasien flicked his blaster to kill. He fired one blast into the man's chest, knocking him back into the durasteel corridor's wall. The kill had been as much for intimidation as it had been for revenge.

He turned quickly, aiming his blaster at the other un-surrendered guard, who now appeared as pale as a wraith in moonlight. "On your knees, hands behind your head." Kasien said slowly, and clearly. "If you attack, you're dead."

The man complied. Kasien put the commlink to his mouth again. "All New Republic units, report in."

'Alpha squad, position secure.'

'Beta squad, position secure.'

'Charlie squad, position lost.'

"Charlie squad, retreat to Alpha's position." Kasien said, cursing their luck. Even one lost position wasn't good.

'Acknowledged.'

The other acknowledgements came in clear, with the three other groups of soldiers having taken their positions. "Alright. All units, lay defensive mines and turrets and move to my position. Aprehend all resistence encountered, non-lethally, if possible."

As the acknowledgements came in, the Rogue Empire's transmission was relayed to Kasien by New Republic command.

Eclipse Star Destroyer Twilight

Tellien looked up incredulously at Gash. 'What the hell was that?' He exclaimed, shifting his glare to the holonet diplay. 'Was that a surrender, or an announcement of further hostilities?'

Gash kept his stony-eyed gaze locked upon the projector. "Either one. Mister Blackblade is assuming the moral high ground without committing himself to either course of action."

'Then?'

Gash shrugged. "Order Ganymede to continue as planned."

"This is Gash Jiren of the New Republic. We are here to ensure that Jilaeek station is disabled, and the innocent on board evacuated. Surrender is suggested; resistence will be met with resistence."

"Sir sensors report that New Republic Ships have dropped out of Hyperspace in Sector 3-19 They are heading directly towards Hoth. Also they're transmitting a message." said his Sensor/comm officer

"Put it up on the Speakers and on the comm. Order all ships to do the same. Let our troops here what they have to say. Also order all ships to come to a complete stop and have the shuttles and all Shadow Droids and TIE M1's return to their docking bays. All other fighters shall remain out there to escort only. Do not fire unless fired upon." he ordered

Suddenly a well known voice boomed over to Speakers.

"This is Gash Jiren of the New Republic. We are here to ensure that Jilaeek station is disabled, and the innocent on board evacuated. Surrender is suggested; resistence will be met with resistence."

"Comm Officer. Order all ships to come to reform into their respective fleets. Form up in a gauntlet escort formation. And transmit this message." said Elian

Then taking a deep breath he waited for the nod from his comm officer before preceding.

"This is Fleet Admiral Elian Toritho of the Mon Calamari Republic. We offer no resistance to either the New Republic or The Rogue Empire. We offer the New Republic safe passage through our lines and if Chancellor Jiren allows us it would be my honour to escort his Fleet to Jilaeek Station."

Where holocomms were available, the form of Fleet Admiral Dakkon Blackblade sprung up, fatigue evident on his features. Elsewhere, all they heard was his voice and as such he had to identify himself.<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->

"This is Fleet Admiral Blackblade. As per my request earlier mourning the loss of the Emperor, i request a full cessation of hostilities.

Also, Jileeak will cease to function as soon as all troops leave. New Republic forces will be allowed to remain on board to ensure we donot attempt to use te station as they are neutral. GDI...

GDI can get the hell off my station. As Jileeak is the cause of these problems, it will most likely be scrapped. And as such we expect no external interference if and when Rogue Imperial High command do decide to do this.
