14 Years Earlier

It was dark. It had been dark know for almost a week. The seas were drying up, most of the royal family had been killed and Elonth was much much larger than it was supposed to be. Their was confusion fear and panic everywhere. The royal Palace was burning. Up in the sky the sound of Airspeeders fighting other airspeeders could be heard. Food was rare know. The Stores were only stocked with a few items and and the prices were extremely inflated. Teams of Elvians wearng the Dark Blue crescent shaped insigna of the seperatists were combing the streets and the buildings for the last remaining member of the Royal Family High Prince Elian Toritho. They's already came to Elven's house twice tonight. In the distance there was another sputtering of blaster fire. Probably another band of the seperatists meeting up with a group of Royal Guards. Elven's father Erten was gone. He'd left in the first day of drarkness when his fighter squadron had been called up to the orbiting frigate El Tohitho. Nobody had any clue whether or not he'd survived. Then, suddenly the space battel started. Royal Navy ships moved against pirated Seperatist ships in At first it appeared that the seperatist would have the easy victory. There whips were formed up in a huge wall and all that the Royal Navy appeared to have was one battle wedge made up of 7 Battlecruisers. A significant force yes. But not even half as many as the seperatists. Then suddenly the battle wedge began a drive towards the middle of the wall it seemed like they were trying to drive a path through the enemy armada and escape into hyperspace. Their concentrated fire managed to destroy a few battlecruisers but still not enough to make it through. As they approached the slowed and almost seemed on the verge of turning around and retreating to the other side of the planet when they suddenly formed a maneouver that made them 2 parallel lines. From the middle of the wedge burst dozens of Frigates and Light Cruisers hidden by the bulk of the Battle Cruisers. Accelerating at full speed they managed to surprise the battlecruisers and support ships in the center and overload their shields before they were able to take any action. Then they split in half and turned outwards systematically moping up the remaining enemy capitol ships. Suddenly the battle was over with the ground forces surrendering immeaditly and the remaining space forces doing the same. The battle had been won. It was later known that it was thanks to High Prince Elian Toritho's tactical expertise but for know the people had no idea as to how it happened. The battle was however not won without cost. Elven's father, Erven was dead. His squadron had been decimated. And the whole Elvian People had to evacuate Elath. Elonth had affected the world so much that almost all life as gone. It was then when Elven was looking upon the blue ball of Elath that used to be his hoime and was also the grave of his father that he promised to himself that he's becoma a pilot.

Present Day
Entrance to Elvian Royal Navy Academy Admission Center

Elven looked up at the magnificent towering gold structure that was the Elvian Royal Navy Academy Admissions Center. Today on his 20th birthday he'd reached the elligible age to enter the Elvian Royal Navy Academy. He'd begun by studying for hours on end. Listening to history recordings, reading Star Charts, studying ship blueprints and generally stuffing his head full of any knowledge possible. Know as he entered the grand admission hall little bits of historical facts ran through his head. The year high prince Elian Toritho was born. The name of the discoverer of Elterane a Elvian colony world, the main leaders of the seperatists and many other little trivial facts. Up ahead he could see the Admissions officer behind a desk that formed a semi-circle trapping him behind it. Pationately Elven waited at the end of the line untill slowly it dwindeled down to nobody. Just as the last applicant was sent to sit in the waiting room waiting to hear whether or not they were going to be accepted for the Entrance Exam, Elven took a deep breath to steady himself. He then stepped up to the desk and presented the officer with his ID, Citizenship Card and Resume.

"Hello You are here to apply to take the entrance exam for the academy correct?" the examiner who's nametag identified him as Vertin asked.

"Yes Sir." replied Elven

"Are you planning on just joining the Royal Navy or continuing on to join the Mon Calamari Republic Navy as well?" Vertin asked.

This had been the one question that Elven had been wrestling with. Should he stay with the Royal Navy or go for both the Royal Navy and the Mon Calamari Republic Navy as well? Finally it had been the fact that he'd face more battles in the Mon Calamari Navy and have more recognition that one out.

"Both Sir." said Elven

"Fine. Know look in this scanner while we take a look at your retinal pattern please."

Vertin said as he held out a thin metal rod with a wide funnel shaped end. Elven looked in the funnel as Vertin pressed a button and the scanner immited a double beep. Suddenly there was a bright flash and Vertin had withdrawn the scanner.

"Thank you. Your number is 52 please go sit in the waiting room." said vertin as he passed Elven a datadot that would identify him as number 52

Slowly Elven walked over to a chair trying to shake the temporary blindness caused by the bright light off. He sat in a chair and picked up a Datapad with the latest News hardwired onto it.

30 Minutes Later......

"Number 52 please."

Suddenly elven looked up as he heard his name be called. There was a Academy Official standing at the door.

"Number 52 plea......"

"I'm 52 Sir."

Said Elven as he stood up and presented the officer with his datadot.

"Thank you. Come this way." replied the Officer

Elven trailed after the Green and Silver uniformed officer. Down a twisting hallway to a door that showed a large cavernous entry hall much similar to the one he'd entered earlier today except this one was quiter and had less people.

"This is the Entry Hall that you will use while you're taking your exam. Just present yourself to the guard at the gate every morning and pending a Identification check he will let you threw. Also you will need this." said the Officer as he handed a small identification tag to Elven.

"Does that mean I have been accepted for the entrance Exam?" said Elven

"Yes Cadet Candidate Ferten. every day you shall come here at O900 hours Coruscant Galactic Time and go to the desk at the here. you will present your tag to the Officer there and he will direct you to your Examination room. Within a week you will know wether or not you've passed or failed. Know you are excused for the day."

"Yes Sir."

With that Elven did a about face and strode out of the hall nodding cheerfully to the guards on his way out.

The Next Day
Cadet Candidate Entrance Elvian Royal Navy Academy Admission Center

"Your Identification Tag Sir." said the guard politely but forcefully as Elven arrived at the admissions center.

"Here." Elven handed over his tag and watched as the guard disappeared into his cubby hole office where he was doubtlessly checking out Elven's identity.

"Your Identification checks out. Go straight through this door and up to the desk that you saw yesterday." Said the Gyard as he handed Elven his identification guard and then withdrew his hand to press a concealed button. No doubt he was deactivating the lock and various traps that bared the entrance of unwanted visitors. Elven nodded cheerfully to the guard and pocketed his ID Tag as he walked over what mostlikely used to be a laser trap and would resume being a laser trap after Elven entered. Once again he entered the cavernous entry hall that was reserved for people taking the application exam and their examiners. However this time it was much fuller than it had been the first time. Obviously all these people were here to also take the application exam. He walked up to the desk that was thankfully for once not at the head of a long line. The officer looked up as Even approached and elven recognized him as the officer he'd met yesterday.

"Ah Elven. Right on time. Your exam group is about to be sent to your first exam. In the meantime you can minger with your fellow Applicants. There is a Caf machine on the far wall if you need a bit of wakening up. Your exam group is number 19."

"Thank You." Elven nodded at the officer then went to stand near the wall. To look over the students that he'd have a exam with knowing that some of them would most likely go to the academy with him if he was to suceed.

"Group number 19. Please follow me to your exam." said the officer Elven had talked to earlier today and yesterday. All of the rooms occcupants looked up as he spoke and the converstaion suddenly diminished. then about two thirds of the occupant Elven included followed the officer down a long hallway to a gold door marked Exam room number 2. As elven entered the room he saw many different cubicles. Above them was a sign that said Culture Exam. Elven inwardly groaned. The culture part was probably going to be the hardest part of the exam. He knew it was important however so he had studied hard and he hoped that he could pass it. But still it was going to be close. Elven sat in a cubicle that said his name on it and watched as a privacy field lowered cutting him off totally from the outside. There was a small speaker on his desk and Elven assumed that it led to a intercom where the instructor could talk to them. He looked around and all he saw was a holographic display so he assumed that they were going to show him text. As soon as he finished that thought the intercom came alive.

"Each cubicle is hooked up to a exam droid. This test will be multiple choice. All you have to do is listen to the instructions and answer them out loud. Once you finish with a question the examiner will move on. If you don't know the answer you can say pass or if you want to come back to it later say hold. You may know begin." said the instructor

Almost immeaditly a mitalic sounding voice came over his intercom.

"Cadet Candidate Ferten. the holograpph projector will display a type of art from one world...................

One and a half hours later......

"You have know completed the exam the holographic projector may display the news if you so wish." said the metallic voice after Elven had completed the exam

"Yes please" replied Elven

"Ok the privacy field will be raised in 30 minutes untill then please relax." said the metallic voice adruptly cutting off at the end at the same moment as the latest version of the Elvian Press appeared.

Half an hour later........
"All Cadet candidates your exam is know completed. Your next exam is at 0900 hours tomorrow. Please wait for the privacy fields to raise before you leave. Thank you and have a nice Day."

Elven waited for the fuzzy looking privacy field to raise be fore he stood up and exited the cubicle. Not bothering to look back he quickly walked home.

One Week Later
Cadet Candidates Entrance Hall

Elven stood near the wall the farthest away from the desk where a academy officer sat. Today would be the day that that he discovered whether or not he would become a cadet in the Royal Elvian Navy Academy. His exam group number 19 was composed of 20 individuals. The top 10 we're going to be accepted, the rest......well they'd just have to try again later. Slowly hesitantly he read the list of Disqualified Candidates.
<!--EZCODE HTML START-->

Slowly Elven turned to the second board the one showing the Accepted Candidates. This one was ordered from highest score to lowest score.

Elven read the list with mounting joy his eyes stopping just for a second on his list before continuing on. At the bottom of the list there was a message. It read: All accepted Candidates please go immeaditly to room number 31 where you will receive your uniform and travel information. Have your Identification Tag ready to assert your identity. And Congratulations. Immeaditly after reading this message Elven allowed himself a small smile of sucess. Finally he was on his way to becoming a pilot. It didn't matter that he was 8 out of 10 and that usually the bottom 5 drop out. And it didn't matter that he was going to have to leave home and his family behind. All that mattered was that he was on his way to accomplishing his goal. To be a Hero.

Three days Later
Landing Pad Number Eighteen

Elven stood in the throng of cadets and well wishers a perfect vision of military discipline. Uniform clean, boots polished, Hair staraight and neat and that aura that soldiers on parade seemd to project. Today was the day when he stopped being a little kid. The day when he took his first step. His first step into a universe full of problems that needed a hero. And he planned on being that one. All around him his family and his friends thronged. His mother was crying. She'd begged him not to go to start up a family become a business man. She'd already lost her husband in the navy she didn't want to lose her son. But Elven had reassured her that he would be ok that this was what he'd been born for. Besides he was just going to the Academy. He wasn't about to go into combat know. Her fears only partially dismissed she know stood off to the side weeping softly. Around him were 2 of his 3 best friends. They were all a year younger than him and we're planning on joining the Navy later. The third of his best friends, Eltern Benath, was already at the Academy training to become a officer. From his many letters home Eltern had painted a picture of harsh discipline but Elven figured that it was all just his inability to cope. The heroes in the Holodramas we're always cool loose people. How can you become a hero by teaching yourself to follow orders. Heros were impulsive. They did what they did through sheer skill and Elven felt that he had the skill. Suddenly a non-commisioned officer in the Academy colours stood at a podium and began to speak his words amplified through the use of speakers on the walls.

"All Cadets form up in designated ranks. On my command follow your row leader." said the non-comm

This was it. This was probably the last time he'd see his family for at least 2 years. Maybe eve his friends if they didn't make it past the exams. He never doubted that he wouldn't pass. Just that he wouldn't get leave in the middle of his studies. With one last hug and a wave he was gone standing 8th in his line of 12. On either side of him were the passing candidates from exam groups 17-22. All of them had completed their exams within 5 days of each other so they were all sent out together. Slowly the landing ramp of the X-J3 Elvian War Frigate lowered and the well wishers retreated beyond the blast shields so they could still see but they would be removed from the action. The Non-Comm took a deep breath and bellowed.

"Rank 1.....March!"

"Rank 2.....March!"

Elven's rank was next as he took a deep breath to steady him. Standing at attention like the other cadets ahead of him eyes focused beyond the horizon he waited for the command.

"Rank 3.....March!"

Slowly deliberatelly Elven began to march forward following the Cadet ahead of him. Executing a sharp right hand turn he followed his fellow cadets up the gangway and into the ship waiting beyond confident and ready for the future.

2 Days Later..........
Landing Pad at Elvian Royal Naval Academy

Elvian stood in the same rank and in the same position he'd been in on the day he'd left except this time he was standing inside the hold of a War Frigate not in the open air. Ahead of him he could see the Lieutenant that had come with them. He was currently adressing all the Cadets in the hold.

"When you arrive you will proceed on the order of Seargent First Class Tiltern out of the hold. You will then be greeted by the Academy commanding officer Provost General Telth. He will welcome you and introduce you to the academy staff. Seargent.....begin." said the Lieutenant

Seargent First Class Tiltern strode up to the podium and began to speak.

"Rank 1! Reaaaady wait for it March!"

"Rank 2! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeady March!"

"Rank 3! Reeeeedy March!"

"Rank 4! Reaaady March!"

"Rank 5! Reeeeeeady wait for it Ferten wait for it March!"

With that Elven followed his fellow cadets down the ramp and into the bright sunlight of the world Telith III. Standing on a podium was a Elvian officer in the uniform of a Provost General and behind him were 5 other officers of varying ranks, ages and sexes.

"Welcome to the Elvian Royal Navy Academy. Here you will learn many things. Discipline, physics, tactics, science and many other things. Regretably only half of you wonderful people will be able to pass. Know without further ado I will introduce you to the officers that will take you to your quarters."

1 Month Later....

Elven looked up as he wiped the sweat off his brow from the humidity of the jungle.

"Baby Bear reports Sector 3 is clear." Elven gasped to his superior officer. Elven always found these patrols stupid. Especially for a fighter pilot but that was what was required of him.

"That's no way to give a report to a superior officer!" barked the NCO "Know give it to me and properly!"

"Begging the Seargents Pardon Sir!" Elven snapped to attention. "Cadet 1st class Ferten reporting Sir! Baby Bear reports that Sector 3 is clear Sir!" said Elven holding his salute.

"Very Well." said the NCO returning the salute. "Get on the comm and call everybody here. I want them all to rendezvous here in 10 minutes!" snapped the Seargent

"Yes Sir!" Elven saluted then jogged off to the where the communications officer knelt.

Suddenly there were shouts off to his left and the forest was suddenly lit up by blaster fire. Not the red killing bolts but blue stunbolts. Obviously it was another test. Out of the corner of his eye he could see his seargent go down. They must want to see how he could react under fire.

Quickly Elven dropped to the ground and returned fire from his small service blaster.

"Get the sentries to pull back. Get a medic over to Seargent Felven." He then turned to his communications officer. "Get out a map and show me where we think they are." said Elven

"Yes Sir. My best estimate puts them at 546,675" said the communications officer

"That's a 100m square box pretty big don't you think?" asked Elven

"Yes sir but it's the best we can do in this forest" said the communications officer.

"Alright get Baby Bear over to 544,675. Goldilocks is to go to 548, 673 Tell Mama Bear to make waypoint #1 544,675. Waypoint #2 544, 680 and waypoint #3 546 680. They are to advance to within 50m of your best estimate firing at knee height. Tell are group to stay down. And call in Air support tell them to get ready." said Elven

"Yes Sir." said the communications officer

10 Minutes Later........

It was all over. A military lift helicopter had come to pick Elven up while the rest of the squad completed the patrol without him. Certain he was going to face punishment it was with a sorry expression on his face when he entered the Provost Generals office.

"Congratulations Ferten. That was an excellent job. You showed good leadership skills, good tactics and also above all you minimized friedndly losse including friendly fire. How many did you lose?" asked the General.

"Seargent Felven, the 5 sentries and 3 others." replied Elven

"Very good. How many bogies dead?" asked the General

"40 sir." replied Elven

"Good. That exercise was worth 1000 points plus bonuses you got 9500 points plus 400 bonus. Do you know why you got so many bonus points?" asked the officer

"Because I had so few loses and I sent a medic over to Seargent Felven even though I knew he wasn't dead." said Elven

"Exactly know when your patrol returns you will have a de-briefing. Untill then enjoy some R&R. Also I'm opening up the first simulater room to you." said the Provost General

"Thank you Sir." replied Elven

"Dismissed." said the General

Elven saluted once and then quickly marched out the door not to the bar or to his dormitory but to the Simulater room. Finally he would get the chance to fly.
