The soft clicking of fingernails on the desk was a bit unnerving. Despite the seriousness of the events unfolding he wanted to crack his head back and laugh if only to ease the tension. Then woman sitting in front of him had an extremely great amount of power on his homeworld. The power in the mix of these negotiations was huge. Also hanging in the balance, however, were the lives of his family and of millions of civilians. He'd put his life on hold to help his people. All he could do was hope and pray.
"Fine. I continue to stay in power for at least another term, and your people are free to go about their lives. I will not allow my troops to harm your people so long as your people don't do anything stupid."
Christopher breathed a sigh of relief. "Good. Thank you, ma'am. You won't regret your decision."
"I better not. Now go."
He nodded and stood. Bowing to her in formal departure rituals, he turned and left the room. Ten minutes later he was walking down the street, hands in pockets and minding his own business. A cloaked figure was walking towards him but he paid no mind to it. These people were none of his business. Besides, he needed to get back to his family and that was a three hour flight south.
Christopher crossed in front of an ally right next to the cloaked figure and the next thing he knew he was flying into the ally. His had smacked into the wall and was immediately hit by the cloaked figures fist. A glimpse of gray skin met his eyes, but it was the last thing he saw before the lights suddenly turned out on him.
