Splinters of the Force: Hidden Enemies

The halls were quiet. The rec centers were empty. No one could be found anywhere. Still, the solitary sound of footsteps echoed down the halls. One lone set of boots, recently returned from an undercover attempt to takeover a nearby planet. The attempt failed due to outside interference but lessens earned are lessons learned. Only a few more options remained to gain new bases for the eventual attempt at helping those in need.

The door to the Dragon Den slid open and Kamon stepped into the command center of the White Dragon stronghold on the hidden world of Alatar Prime. The purpose of the Dragon's was the eventual destruction of the Black Dragon's. An infamous enemy of the one time Tholatin Republic leads the group of bandits gone "legit". His double-crossing of the Republic and eventual capture of Kamon led to the formation of the White Dragons.

Chair swivelng, Kamon sat down and looked around the busiest room in the underground complex. Of all the busy places, the Dragon Den was the worst to work. It was real easy to get beat up while trying to simply do your work. People jostled their way around the small room, moving to speak with their bosses who in turn talked to their bosses and so on until it got to Kamon.

"Sir?"

The unseen call beckoned his head to the right where a lieutenant, someone knew, waited for his answer.

"Yes, Lieutenant?"

"The scout line reports some odd looking asteroids moving towards the system. They say that they're formed, like they were artificially created. Should I tell them to bring them in?"

Kamon thought for a moment. Shaped asteroids. Like something man-made or sculpted. I wonder...

"No. Let them drift towards the system more. If I'm correct on this we're about to have some really big problems."

"Yes, sir."

Kamon looked over at the head officer on duty and beckoned him over. There was something he wanted the man to do.

"Commander, call Admiral Pariah to the bridge, please. Once you have confirmation from him get Dragon Squadron prepped and launched into a holding pattern close to the south pole. Tell them to keep quiet on all accounts."

"Yes, sir."

Kamon sat back.

"I really don't like this."

The Cortogen Guard Captain was not happiest when emersed in the drills of an elite soldier or bathing in the sense of pride and purpose in uniform like most of his men. He wasn't happiest when he had the breastplate heavy against his chest or when the rifle was pressed inbetween his hands.

He was happiest when he could find the time to discard the grim duties of a protector and mingle with those he strove to protect. And so here he was in the facilities of an afterschool program, in a dark green tunic and a pair of standard military issued cargoes, happier than he had been in all week.

"Psst!" The dark haired young man hissed mischeviously as he waved over a little boy of six. His name was Gabriel, a very shy and observant boy. It was a great trial for Kenshin every visit to get him to speak, but it was a challenge he enjoyed.

Gabe apparently was intrigued as to why such a man would want to speak with him every week, but he never complained at the attention. His unresponsiveness earned him little. Running over, the golden haired kid greeted the man with the usual smile, which Kenshin returned like always.

"How have you been this week?" Kenshin chuckled as he lowered himself to the floor so he could look into the kid's eyes. Gabe only grinned some more and so he knew all was well. "Good eh? Well, its going to get better. I've got a new trick to show you..."

The pair was unaware, like most of Alatar Prime, of the suspicious satillite that floated ever so near. It would seem that Kenshin would have to return to being the Captain of the Cortogen Guard much, much sooner than he had thought...

Cynic lurched up from his bed with a grunt and stared over at chrono on his side table. He glared at it, realizing it was his com unit which had awoken him and reached for it, pressing the reciever button.

"Yes?"

"My apologies for waking you, sir, but tac com has detected some very strange signatures within the system and Kamon has requested your presence in the command center."

"Very well, I'll be up there in a few moments."

Cynic cut the signal and quickly got out of bed, retrieveing his uniform tunic and putting it back on before sliding his boots on and exiting his chambers, walking down the corridor with a determined clip, his boots clicking against the metal floor as he made his way to towards the command center. Personnel quickly dashed out of his way, knowing that the Admiral was exactly not someone to get in the way of as he moved on. The journey was more of less short since Cynic believed in being close to the where ever his post of command was. As the doors slid open, Cynic spotted Kamon and walked up to him, giving a nod.

"I understand we havea situation, sir?"

Kamon's focus was drawn elsewhere to something that was bothering him about those asteroids. At first he didn't hear a word that the Admiral said so he didn't respond. When the words finally sank in, however, he looked up at the Admiral with a grim look on his face. He was pretty sure he knew what was going on, but he needed proof.

"Indeed. Perimeter patrols reported the appearance of two odd looking asteroid bodies moving into the system. Their ealry reports were inconclusive, but they say the asteroids look formed."

Standing up from his seat, he walked over to a holo-map and pointed out the location of the two asteroids. Every minute that they stood there, the two bodies were closing on the planets. Every minute Kamon had a weirder and weirder feeling.

"Those are the two asteroids. Every time I feel out to them I get a holo-void type of situation. Like what you get when you feel Vong."

He pointed out another small group of blips on the screen near one of the planet's poles. Having thought ahead, he figured that something dangerous was going on so he'd launched the Dragons. They were the best squadron available to the White Dragons. On the other side of the planet was he fleet which was lying in wait.

"I've had the Dragons launched and put into standby. If I'm right and those are Vong, we have to destroy them quickly. If they land on the planet, we'll have to fight them."
