Epilogue
The death of Alexandro Ronich ended any threat of serious political realignment on Anaxes. In many ways the movement had been a personality cult, and Ronich had not had enough time to groom any of his supporters to act in his stead. However the mysterious circumstances of Ronich's death helped to provide some stability among his loyalists. An autopsy report signified acute cardiac arrest as the cause of death, but made no distinction about what caused its onset. Although analysts quickly dismissed any possibility of a major shift of power on the planet, they were quick to mention that a core group of Ronich supporters would still wield considerable political clout.
Fleet Admiral Pernize was elected Presidium, promising to maintain the status quo, but implement some reforms to appease Ronich's supporters. Pernize accepted an invitation from the Galactic Empire to join the newly formed League of Nations. As part of the agreement, a large naval base was being built between Anaxaes and Axum, to house an Imperial fleet. As a condition of the agreement, the construction jobs were to be handled by only Anaxan companies using only Anaxan labor. The Imperials also agreed to a lease agreement and allowed a large contingent of Anaxan defense force personnel to be stationed at the base.
The agreement was widely hailed as a success as it was seen as something of a victory for both sides. In fact, the amount of attention paid to the deal with the Empire far overshadowed an appointment that at any other time in Anaxan history would have been the most pressing news item of its day: as his first official act as Presidium, former fleet Admiral Pernize elevated Samuel Rutledge to his old position, making him the Supreme Commander of the Anaxan military forces...
