(The Smarts-class Primary Command Sphere)
Begin simulation:
The universe exploded into existence around Smarts, stars coalescing out of the dark void he stared into, then, suddenly, there appeared a planet immediately in front of him. Smarts accelerated forward, leaving his small fleet in orbit while he traveled to the planet’s surface. As he neared the upper atmosphere, he reoriented himself, pointing his ventral surface toward the planets surface. The main sublight engines fired, reducing his acceleration as the planet’s gravity pulled him in.
Nearing the planet’s surface, Smarts shifted fluidly from sublights to repulsorlifts, and extended his landing legs. The closer he got, the more power he applied to the repulsorlifts, until finally, he floated gently to the surface. The repulsorlifts powered down slowly, remaining partly powered to relieve most of the stress from the landing legs. Safely on the surface, he opened the ship’s sealed docking bays and began moving cargo out with small freighters and atmospheric transport craft.
An hour later, finished with his business, he resealed the hangars, powered up the repulsors, and departed just opposite the way he came. Rejoining his fleet, he flew away, reaching for the stars and trying to break free of the planet’s gravity field. Suddenly, several ships appeared from hyperspace: a wall of Star Destroyers protecting an Imperial Interdictor Cruiser. The Star Destroyers deployed a cloud of TIE fighters, and the Star Destroyers and TIE fighters began advancing on the droid fleet.
Smarts set to work immediately, issuing orders to the few ships he had with him, and launching a cloud of his own fighters. The Imperials began to advance, closing the distance between the ships and preparing to attack. Smarts responded in kind, though his Command Sphere moved forward with its topmost decks pointing towards the Imperial fleet, due to the ventral location of the Sphere's main engines.
As the two forces grew closer, Smarts shut off his main engines and rotated the ship, allowing his momentum to carry him into the fight while bringing his forward weapons array to bear on the Imperial formation. The fighters met, and in a rather unusual move, the droid swarm disintegrated, the ships breaking from their mass formation and adopting more random, evasive tactics. The move caught the TIEs off guard and allowed several of the droid fighters to get behind the fighter cloud, where they proved to be much more effective at picking off targets than most droids were.
The droid fleet reached the cloud of starfighters, and passed right through it, intent on confronting the capital ships. Seconds before the two forces met, Smarts issued one last set of commands, then used his powerful comm array to broadcast a massive static storm, completely jamming local communications. The droid formation splintered suddenly, each ship executing the last command it had been given before the communications blackout had separated it from Smarts.
The Imperial ships, unable to coordinate a counterattack, each chose a target and opened fire, while the droid ships converged on the Imperial flagship, firing from all directions and depleting its shields. As the shields failed and the hull began to buckle, the droid ships belched out more fighters, which streaked out towards the Interdictor that was holding position in the distance. Smarts' two smallest ships veered suddenly, running into two of the Star Destroyers, destroying them outright. The droid ships finished off their first target, then broke for combat, abandoning their first group of fighters, which, with no up-to-date commands, were being slaughtered by the remaining TIEs.
The second group of fighters reached the Interdictor, launching a massive wave of missiles. The Interdictor’s shields buckled and it took heavy damage, then several of the starfighters rammed it, cutting deep into the ship and damaging its main reactor, which exploded seconds after the remaining fighters were out of range. The fighters continued on their original course, heading away from the droid ships, and Smarts dropped the jamming field, issued new orders, then he and the remainder of his fleet made a micrujump out of the system. Seconds later, they appeared back in-system, right in front of their retreating fighters. The fighters landed and the ships jumped away once again.
Yes, Smarts thought to himself, this will work very well.
