In orbit over the world of Falleen....
The Space Liner Emerald Esmeralda dropped out of hyperspace, in orbit above the world. The eight hundred meter passenger liner, who formerly had served in the Imperial Navy as an Aegis class Star Carrier, found it's self immediatly surronded by a number of vessels. On the left was a modified Bulk Cruiser, on the right a Nebulon-B Frigate, and flanking the two of them were a total of eight Corsair class Heavy Assault Starfighters. Immediatly the Bulk Cruiser lanced the liner with ion cannon fire, disabling it. Shuttles full of greedy pirates came from the Bulk Cruiser and Frigate, and boarded with the Passenger Liner. The Pirates were after three things. Firstly, riches, secondly, valuable passengers to ransom off, and thirdly, the vessel it'sself, modified, would make a nice addition to their already impressive flotilla. A distress call had been sent, but for fifteen minutes, there was no word of any help.
Then, suddenly, decanting out of hyperspace in front of the liner's path, at a distance of twenty five kilometers from the group, a medium cruiser sized vessel, of a long rectangular shape that no one recognized, appeared. As soon as the cruiser appeared, it raised it's shields, and hangar doors on the front bottom of the ship opened, and began spewing out TIE Fighters, two full squadrons worth. In respone the Frigate and Bulk Cruiser managed to cobble together three squadrons worth of Uglies, patch jobs. The novice TIE Fighter squadrons tore into the uglies, using superior speed and manueverability to their advantage. Meanwhile the Medium Cruiser had oriented to face the vessels, and was oncoming at an alarming pace, faster than normal vessels of it's size. When it reached optinum range, the vessel opened fire with it's medium turbolaser batteries, focusing fire on both the Bulk Cruiser and Frigate. It's forward Ion cannons also joined in. The Frigate and Bulk Cruiser responded with their turbolaser and laser cannons, lancing energy into a wide area on the ship's bow. The TIE Fighters, in the meantime, had broken the enemy fighter resistance, and bore down on the Corsairs. When it was at a distance of five kilometers, the Medium Cruiser cut it's drives, and rotated, bring it's topside weaponry to bear. Thirty proton torpedoes spewed out of it's tubes, fifteen each smashing into the Bulk Cruiser and Frigates. Shields already weakened by constant turbolaser fire, anti-torpedo articles disabled by ion cannons, most of the torpedoes made it through, smashing into the hull. The Frigate was split in two along it's spine, and the Bulk Cruiser exploded into a drifting Hulk. Now the Medium Cruiser deployed it's eight Sentinel Shuttles, fully loaded with two companies of stormtroopers, to eliminate the pirates on the liner.
In the end, the Ferro class Medium Cruiser had proved it's worth on it's first combat sortie, this time protecting friendly commerce from a pirate attack. The liner was soon met by another one from the same company, it's passengers transferred to continue their journey, the liner it's self soon taken under tow by a FERAM. All in all it had been a good, successful first sortie for the first of what would be the newest Medium Cruiser to complement the Imperial Navy.
