A blond-haired man clad in a black uniform passed through the triple set of blastdoors. Service and Battle Tabs covered left breast as silver piping ran up his pants and encircled his throat and cuffs. His left shoulder bore the emblem of the Coalition while his right carried the blue and gold crest of the Kashan Defence Fleet. On his belt, an ultrachrome vibro-rapier and a small holster for his hold-out blaster. All of the abnormalities that marked the man as wearing a dress uniform; a dress uniform that the circumstances demanded, but made the soldier feel like a dress-up doll.
“Commodore’s on the deck!”
“At ease.”
Commodore Corise Lucerne attempted to casually stroll towards the command chair of the Pegasus. His bootsteps reverberated throughout the otherwise silent bridge. The star destroyer’s bridge seemed abnormally large for one used to commanding a medium cruiser that was less than half the size of the sole Kashan Star Destroyer. He sat down immediately noticing several more creature comforts on the new chair that the Seraph lacked. The younger Lucerne slowly turned his head to face the helmsman, and in his sweep, noticed the holo-cam crews along with Pro-Consul Thorn. That’s why she was so adamant about the uniforms. Can’t control women although they control you. He slightly smirked at the thought before banishing it under the mask of professionalism.
“Helm, take us to Point-Five-Eight-Blue-Two.”
“Aye sir.”
The silver wedge of the Pegasus-class knifed throughout the sable fabric of space. On average, it cruised at 15 MGLT, which was fairly fast for its size. The engines could move even faster without draining any power from any of the other systems if power was transferred from hits taken on the Ultrachrome armor. With that, the vessel could move faster than most of its opponents, including the famed Tion-class Star Destroyer of the Black Dragon Empire. Ahead of the star destroyer, several satellites, targets, came into range of the turbolasers.
“We’ve entered target range sir.”
More formalities.
“Fire at will Lieutenant.”
Emerald bolts surged forth from the Pegasus, slagging them instantously at ranges which few turbolasers could match. Some of the targets began to move under manipulation from tractor beam projectors located in a group of Seraphs that surrounded the belt. Since all of the weapons on the Pegasus were turreted, the weapons had little trouble tracking them. Sapphire bolts rained from the cruiser’s ion cannons at a pace which outmatched the rate of the heavy turbolaser batteries. Corise glanced at the targeting readouts.
“Everything appears optimal. Begin the defensive measures test.”
“Yes sir.”
The accompanying Seraphs hurled a set of asteroids at the star destroyer. The cam crews began to murmur. Corise shrugged. Typical. Flak bolts from turbolasers demolished the asteroids at range. Significantly closer, one of the KDF’s asteroid platforms launched a volley of conventional concussion missiles. Flak bursts from the turbolasers took out clusters of the missiles, but some the missiles, those that were starfighter grade, moved too fast for the large guns. As they neared the destroyer, the point-defence cannons opened fire, lancing small bolts to precisely destroy the missiles. Corise turned to his weapon’s officer.
“Let those next four hit. Turn off the particle shields in the target areas.”
“Yes sir.”
More gasps from the media.
The warheads closed on the star destroyer. As soon as the warhead’s tip touched the plate, the electric current transferred into the warhead and prematurely destroyed the warhead before it could impact any more of the armor. Looking at his screen, the Kashan man could see the armor slightly give way under the force before being sprung back up to its’ original position by the compressible carbon polymer. He nodded in satisfaction. The testing was complete.
