Luke jerked back, taking one step to the rear. She really didn't know... he was right. What had happened? She looked like Mara- she was Mara! The lightsaber, the lightsaber had found her. It was her.
But then...?
"Mara? How... I'm..."
Taking hold of the Force, Luke steadied himself and used a Jedi breathing technique to calm himself. He used the Force again, to delve into her mind. It was like looking into a pool of black water... her memories were locked away, gone, buried to deep to be found. Locking gazes once again with his wife, he spoke.
"I'm Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master. And I... I... am your husband."

"I'm Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Master. And I... I... am your husband."
Mara blinked once, then twice. She took up her mug of ale in her hand and rose it to her lips, looking over the brim at ‘Luke’ before taking a long drawn out drink. Slowly, she placed the glass down, and smirked.
“Uh-huh, sure you are,” she laughed, leaning back in her chair to lift her feet into the air, thudding them down against the top of the other – right foot crossed over her left ankle.
“I’m not interested, alright? I’ve had this all day of men and to be honest I’m fed up of it… so save your cheesy lines and go find someone else to use them on.”
She grinned a wide, sarcastic grin, shaking her head at the man.

Luke shook his head, and smiled a little. After more than a decade with his wife, he was reduced to being thought a common Corellian swinger with a lame pick up line.
"I figured it might go something like that... have you noticed, Mara, how you can feel the emotions of others? You're a Jedi, too. When you do that, you're using the Force."
Something clicked in the Jedi's mind, and he frantically reached inside his robe. A second later, he pulled out a cylindrical piece of metal...
Mara's old lightsaber.
"Here, take it. It was your's, once."

“Gifts now? Buying women with weapons the new thing on Corellia, is it?”
Mara accepted the thin hilt and acknowledged it as a light saber, the weapon of the Force users.
“You’re not going to get anywhere here, fly boy. Pretending to be a Jedi has to be one of the worst attempts I’ve seen yet.”
She may have had memory loss, but she was still able to quip as well as ever.

Luke swallowed and shook his head. Were the situation not so grave, and not involving his wife unable to remember his name, it would have been quite humorous.
"Alright, then. What if I prove to you that I'm a Jedi?"
When she just shrugged, he continued.
"Okay, open your mind to my presence. You may feel... almost a tickle, or brush inside your mind when I do this."
[i]Luke closed his eyes, and consentrated. Mara had closed up her mind tightly, dispite his words... he buried deeply, past the emotional scarring, to touch within her mind...[i]
"You see?"

"Very nice trick," Mara snatched up her drink and took a gulp.
Her attention turned back to the news, and she sat in silence reading it for a minute, waiting for the man to leave. He didn't, though, and she glanced back up at him, raising a questionning eyebrow.
"Anything else you'd like to show me? Pull an ewok out of a hat or something?"

Luke just continued to stare down piercingly at his wife. What had happened to her...?
"No, I'd like to show you I'm not a Corellian jock with a lame pick up line. Come on, Mara, I know you recognize me."
Luke pulled out on of the table's chairs and sat down smoothly, never letting his gaze leave Mara's eyes.
"How do you explain what I just did? I'm not a Zabrak. I know you feel lost, Mara... you forget who you are, where you belong. I can help you find that again; I'm part of the past you've forgotten. Please..."

She sighed inside. He knew an awful lot about her for someone she had never met, she had to give him that. Looking up at him brought a pang in her mind, though that happened with everyone. How could she tell whether to trust him? He might have been one of those who had captured her, then again, he might actually be a friend.
She fell into silence, then sighed once more.

There was an inner struggle going on inside Mara. Whether she knew him or not, Luke had been around her enough to sense when she was debating something inside herself. Luke had to admit, he was asking for an awful lot of faith...
The Jedi Master reached for her hand.
"Come with me, Mara... you can trust me. Let me help you find your past.

Her hand rose up instinctively to meet his, but instead hovered over his palm unsurely.
"I..."
Mara nervous bit at her lower lip and closed her eyes, lowering her hand into the man's.
"..ok."
