OOC: This is probably the takeover of Anoth, but if anyone will have something against it later on after this post I`ll still have a chance of changing my target
The clouds filled the skies of Bakura, above them on the orbit a CC-9600 Frigate circled the planet, the clouds filled the skies and so they did the minds of the people of Bakura. On a small dock are ten shuttles were preparing for a launch with a large freighter to deliver the supplies to the frigate, but the crew was only to arrive in 2 days. This fit the plans of the man who had been sitting on few boxes on the docks and smoking his cigarette. The smoke slowly floated up in the skies joining the clouds above or so the man always liked to think, he had been sitting there the same way for the last few years always watching as the ships flew away after loading them. Deep scars showed on his face and he didn’t try to cover them because he was proud of what he had done to earn them, he had fought for them, but for the last years he had been useless like a weapon in the closet. He had worked on the docks with some of his old war friends and liked to talk about the old days of glory with them, but now they were all gathered with many more that had been in the same war and some that had earlier experience. Some saw them as the lowest scums of the galaxy, but that was something that Darius would change and he would show that this group had a sense of honour. Of course this honour might be slightly cruel or low in some people’s eyes, but Darius would have never made in the galaxy without being clever. It was quite easy to get men to work on the docks and then just lay low until the first chance came by; Darius blew a small smoke cloud in the air and looked a younger man at his side who covered his eyes with his hat as he tried to sleep. Suddenly the sound of the bell ring and they both sighed looking at each others, but then silently smiled to each others knowing that their had come. They jumped down and began loading boxes on to a small floating platform; they exchanged a look with each others as they began taking the platform towards the shuttles ahead. Behind the boxes shadows sneaked closer, they whispered to each others as they unsuspecting dock workers passed by. Darius looked over his shoulder and then turned at his best friend, the thin man nodded back to him and they pushed the platform to the lading pad. Few other workers began making their way to the landing pad’s with boxes of their own; they all shared a similarity, but everyone thought it to be because of the weather. Suddenly Darius turned around and punched a guard of the docks down as the others pulled out their blasters. The guards or the workers never stood a chance of defending themselves, but these mercenaries didn’t actually kill the dock worker, but did what they had to do to keep them down. Darius saw that the shuttles were taken and the freighter was already in the air, it was actually controlled by his pilots and they would make them way clear for the shuttles. In a way it was nice of the private owner to provide the mercenaries the supplies of months. Darius rushed in the shuttle with his second highest ranking officer of the Mamertines, Slick sat down at the controls as Darius closed the ramp. Slick was not a good pilot, but nor was Darius and he actually hated controlling small shuttles because he had some rough riders aboard them in past thanks to the imperials. Darius sat next to Slick who softly got the shuttle up and then guided it towards the sky trough the clouds to the space above, towards the frigate waiting above. Darius looked at Slick sighing for the easiest part being over, but the hardest would be ahead so he took a deep breath before the plunge.
“Well that was easy… too easy… No challenge at all sir, the security here is quite disappointing…”
Slick let out tsk sound out of his mouth as, if he pitied the guards and the loose security of the docks. Darius knew Slick better than that, those jokes were never a sign of calmness, but a mark of nervousness like in the days of the Sovereignty he always joked before going to battle. It was a thing that Darius was able to be appreciating off because that always eased the feeling, he always knew that some battle would finally take the best of him and death would finally win after all these years he had cheated it. Darius slightly smiled and slapped his hand on Slick’s shoulder.
“Well old friend… here we go again to the dusts of battle, perhaps we will find peace in the grave (if they would ever receive one) or our plans go right and no one of us gets killed during this boarding…”
Slick smiled widely as Darius let his hand slip down from his friends shoulder and nodded.
“Just like brothers in arms, just like old days… god! I miss those days! But now thanks to you sir we will finally get that same adrenaline running trough our veins and feel the heat of battle…”
Darius smiled slightly, but he became quiet after Slicks words because they made him think. They weren’t really born to be soldiers, well no one actually was born to be one, but they were all made to be soldiers in the heat of battle. Some of them would die one day and some lucky would cheat death once more, unfortunately Darius never got the shot between his eyes where he had thought it to go one day in the war, but no. The imperials had captured him and his small band of soldiers; they were going to be executed probably or something like that unless Darius had made a foolishly brave escape. Death had his hand already around his throat that day, but still it seemed that his luck had lasted, but sometimes he wondered if he should have died in the war. Those thoughts were slaughtered by the thoughts of this new responsibility of leading these men and where would they be without him? Working in the docks? Rotting at their homes like an old war tool in times of peace when there was no need for them. Darius had gathered them and polished their armours to shine once more so that they could march into battle, Darius had given them a purpose. To live another day and earn their food by fighting so that they would finally feel alive as they had that one time before in the days of glory. Darius woke from his thoughts as the blaster fire broke out in the hangar and he heard the soldiers shouting orders to each others, the fight was over as the shuttle landed in the hangar. Darius walked down the ramp with his long jacket open revealing his armour, which had a symbol of a fist with lightning in his chest plate and the shoulder pad of the armour. A man in his thirties greeted Darius who came out of the shuttle with Slick on his tail; Darius looked around nodding as the men got into the systems of the ship.
“Welcome aboard sir! We have secured the hangar and all of us are soon here as the rest of the shuttles arrive, 30 men will soon be proceeding trough the elevators towards the bridge as the rest 170 are lining up to take the other floors.”
The man greeted with a tone of anxiousness, he had brown short hair and at his height the man was a giant compared to the rest of the mercenaries, he was the third highest officer in the group named as Groth. The name sounded quite brutish and some suspected that the man had alien blood in his veins, but not much as human and that wasn’t really a problem because there were few aliens among them. Even an azguard had wandered into their group, that was the thing he had least expected, but every soldier was welcome to the Mamertines. Darius pointed at the elevators and looked at the men in front of it.
“I am personally going to the bridge, Slick will take care of the engine sections and you Groth will take the quarters and the storages, but Groth it’s good to have you aboard because we are going to need those strengths of yours.”
Groth smiled widely with a clever face, which Darius thought would be impossible to see in Groth`s face, but there it was and Darius looked at the man for a while before realising that Groth stared back with his eyebrow raised. Darius looked at the elevator and began walking to it, but Groth stopped him by grabbing him by the shoulder.
“Don’t get yourself killed because then this trip will end shortly…”
Darius smiled and ran to the elevator; he walked in as the men greeted him. Few of them were new and some were old, but they all had sworn allegiance to him and Darius had tested each loyalty himself. The elevator began rising the floors and Darius had a weird fear in his head that the small crew stationed here was going to do something dirty as they would exit the elevator. Darius gave orders to fire, if there was anything in front of the elevator and to walk out ready to shoot, if there was no one. Darius dropped on his right knee as the others did, he took a deep breath as he placed his weapon the shoulder of the man in front of him and felt the weapon of a third on his shoulder. If they were waiting for them the best surprise would be to stay low and fire steadily everything they got at the enemies. The doors opened and Darius saw seven guards ready to fire, it was a matter of hundreds of a second, in a heart beat he could lay dead in the floor with a blaster shot hole between his eyes. He pulled the trigger and pointed the gun at the closest target, in a few seconds it was over. The heart of Darius was still beating and so was the hears of his comrades around him, only two got hit in shoulder and were going down with the elevator to be taken to care. The rest proceeded as a tight group with their blasters ready over the bodies as the two returned, Darius looked around slightly sighing. Death would have been the easy way out, but Darius wasn’t a fool or a quitter that left life like that, he walked in the centre of the group as they checked few rooms to find themselves on the bridge door, which was closed. He sighed and opened his com link; he contacted the men at the computer system to see, if they could override the system closing the door.
“Hey guys! I need help, we are at the bridge door and we need access to the bridge, but the strangest thing was that we encountered only few men at the elevator as you already know so we need more men here…just few… I don’t want to bring everyone here as shooting targets…”
Some rapid button pushes came sounded and then a deep voice answered.
“Sure thing commander, the guys are on the elevator, which is one it’s way and just say so then we can open the door, but hurry because I don`t know how long it will take them to realise that we are in their system and block us…”
After 30 seconds a group of soldiers ran trough the halls with some boxes as cover and Darius took position behind a box next to a heavy blaster with pi-pod. The doors opened revealing a captain with some bridge crew and security; there were about 40 mercenaries versus 30 crew members. The heavy blasters of the mercenaries shot down many of the crew members and the others continued with smoke grenades. Some of their enemies coughed and the mercenaries ran to the smoke with their swords revealed, they caught the enemy with their blasters at hand, but not aimed well because if the smoke. Few crew members were instantly taken captive and Darius walked trough the smoke with a smile on his face, he wanted their leader. He saw their leader taking down one of his mercenaries and his face got a sadder look as he looked at the dead soldier. He hoped that he had found peace where ever his soul went, but now was time to get the rust off and finish this show. He pulled a sword out of his soldiers hand and approached the captain.
“I advise you to surrender captain or you will face death…”
His threat got the captain to grin and talk slightly.
“You killed my crew members and you’ll pay for that, if I assume that you are the leader of these scums?”
Darius nodded without any words he threw his sword towards the captain’s legs that jumped up and then as he landed, he got a shot in his head from a blaster. Darius put the blaster back smiling.
“I am no sword man, but we never actually agreed to fight with swords”
Darius spoke to the corpse of he captain as he threw the sword back to the man from who he had taken it, he looked around at his soldiers who slightly smiled.
“Clean this mess and find our dead someplace to rest until we find a proper place to bury them properly…”
Darius looked at the captain’s chair, but didn’t sit in it and left the bridge to check on the other floors. He opened his com link and contacted Slick.
“Slick… have you cleared the floor?”
After a moment the answer came out with a hesitating tone.
“Yes… I think so, the boys of Groth have cleared the quarters and our casualties were quite small, but still it was about 9 men together and plus your casualties to that amount…oh yes and the boys have started to take out the shuttle cargos…We should have the quarters sorted out and supplies gathered in the storages in about 4 hours…”
Darius admired Slick’s will to try to trick him every time because he never wanted to disappoint Darius, but that didn’t really matter because all he now quickly needed was a crew to take the ship out of there.
“Slick, get the crew men to positions and continue the supplies transfer… I want to be out of here before any coalition ships appear for a check…”
Slick nodded all tough without going to do it, but as a reflex.
“Me too commander, but might I ask where we are heading first?”
Darius smiled slightly as he looked out of the window.
“We have to make a little stop on Bespin for some certain equipment… the Belgardi ltd doesn’t mind mercenaries as long as we keep quite and tell the reason of our visit or so I think, then a small diversion jump and the to… well I will tell that later on…”
Darius closed the com link and looked at the open space before him like the many possibilities opening in his life now…
