Asteroid Belt Roche
A shuttle flew around several of the asteroids and toward what appeared to be a station embedded into an asteroid. "We have clearance." the pilot said as he guided his craft into the hanger bay. Once on the deck he opened the ramp and a man wearing a black pilots suit came off the shuttle; on his right shoulder where the golden wings of an elite Serendivus pilot.
As he made his way across the hanger bay he saw teh far doors suddenly open and a man wearing a military coalition uniform came walking toward him; the left side of chest bristled with medals and ribbons.
He gave a salute to the Academy's commander and shook his hand. "I appreciate you letting me come here to present to your cadets." the man said to the commander who nodded in response. "I'm just glad we have someone who knows something about this new type of star fighter."
With that said and done the man followed the commander into the base and down to the academy. While on the elevator the commander couldn't help but get a bit curious. "So what is this new star fighter like?" he asked the pilot who turned to look at him. "You'll just have to listen."
"And you're going to present in that?" The commander asked, referring to his body suit and pilots uniform. "No; I have a change of clothing in here." The pilot said and waited until the elevator doors parted before walking off and toward the corridor.
The commander showed him to his temporary quarters; there he laid his brief case out onto the bed and opened it up and took out a black business suit. He took his pilots suit off and threw it onto the bed but kept his body suit on.
After getting dressed he checked the time and smiled. "Four hours to go, enough time for my people to untold the cargo and set it up in the auditorium." he said to himself after straightening his tie. He folded his pilots suit and put it on the bottom of his brief case; then closed it and walked out of the quarters and back into the elevator.
The ride down only took a few minutes, it wasn't long before he arrived at the Academy. He walked off the elevator and followed a map that was given to him, he soon found the auditorium and also saw his people setting up some equipment. "Make sure it's set up correctly." he said to his people who nodded in return.
As he watched the set up he couldn't help but sense that things would go just fine, he knew some of these cadets and maybe even a few of the instructors here may ask him questions concerning the craft - but he was ready for them.
Three hours into the set up and it was complete. Six mobile holographic projectors where set up and synchronized with his laptop that he had out on the podium. He quickly went through the process and found that one hologram wouldn't work; so he quickly accessed the data and found that it had been damaged during transit: It was a quick fix though as all he had to do was re-upload the data and once that was done it worked fine.
Another hour later and the Auditorium was packed with Cadets and their instructors; including the Academy Commander who appeared to be more interested in how the cadets presented themselves than how the presentation may go.
After a few more minute's the man gave out a fake cough to settle the cadets down and then walked over to the podium. "Greetings, my name is Second Lieutenant Luise Uin." Luise said and casted his eyes across the cadets. The cadets looked at each other, some opened the books they had been handed at the door, others just stared straight ahead and gave Luise their full attention.
"I'm here to explain a new star fighter that some of you may fly in the coming months." Luise explained and walked out from the podium. He pressed a bottom on a remote.
On the six mobile holograms you can see a ship suddenly appear, it looks kind of organic considering there are no straight edges; but on the front of it you can see clearly that there are cockpit windows. On the back are four engine pods and to the left and right of those are what appeared to be a medium sized air locks.
"This is the Crystal a Multipurpose Star Fighter capable of undertaking six different roles." Luise said and shifted the image.
The next image to appear on the mobile holograms is the ship rotating on its side showing a complete 3D view of it.
Some of the cadets shifted in their chairs, others leaned over. "The main section of the Crystal is a two crewman craft," Luise explained, "This craft has six different modules that allows it to do six different jobs. Along with those modules though, this craft is armed with four light tam/bak laser cannons for defense." he said.
His first job was to explain the launch sequence of the craft. "The Crystal can be launched either alone, in other words, just the main body. Or it can be launched with a module attached."
"Because ships have gravity it's easier to install the modules but in the event the Crystal needs to switch out while out in space that's been made possible. Each module has a guidance computer that fires out four red beams of light, these beams zero in on the Crystal's main body and then attach itself to the craft. Once the modules are attached the air locks come together to allow for easy access to the newly installed module." Luise stopped and to take in a breath and then continued. "In the event a module must be ejected it's crew on board will have to perform a space walk to get away." he said and could tell some of the cadets where uneasy with that.
He waited a few minutes before moving on to the first module. He changed the holographic image to show what appeared to be a bulky module; it was circular in design with six engine nuzzles in the back. Over ten small thruster nuzzles could be seen on the hull of the module.
As he watched the hologram he then changed to highlight the weapons. "This is the bomber module; this module features eight torpedo tubes. Four in the front. Two on the port side and two on the starboard side of the module. This allows the bomber to perform a broadside without requiring it to go directly toward the enemy ship." he said and changed the hologram again; this time to show the weapon's it fired. "Ordinance on this craft is the standard Proton torpedo. However we have a new torpedo that allows this bomber to deliver a bit more damage to a capital ship. Thanks to the Serendivus Weapons Development Depart the 'Wide Burst' torpedo was created. This torpedo looks like a standard proton; the difference is that once it get's within a certain range of the enemy ships hull it'll suddenly burst apart and pock mark the hull with mini-explosives. Causing damage and possible hull breaches."
Some of the cadets let out a low whistle. But it was when he showed them test footage is when many of the cadets took immidient interest in the ship.
The test footage showed the Crystal following a set of fighters through an asteroid field, when they got close what appeared to be a pirate frigate the bombers released their payload of Proton torpedo's that slammed into the frigate's shields, after twenty hits the shields failed the bombers came around and tired off the newer - Wide Burst Torpedo - which turned the hull of the frigate into nothing more than craters.
Again he waited a few minutes to allow this information to sink in before he continued.
"Our next discussion is about the Recon module." He said and changed the hologram to show a more straight forward module. This hologram has more a star shape with many antenna's and a few dish's on the hull. "This is the recon module; while not as powerful as it's deep scan brother, it still gets the job done of detecting enemy ships." He then showed them technical information related to the ships sensor range.
After a couple more minutes he changed subjects to the heavy fighter module. "I'll now show you a deadly module." he said and shifted the holographic image. This new hologram was in the shape of a sapphire, it was bristling with cannons and what appeared to be on torpedo tube. "This is the Heavy Fighter module. Equipped with six specially designed cold fusion laser cannons that can easily rip apart unshielded targets. Along with those you have four tam and bak laser cannons to deal with shields. However to top it off the module is also armed with an anti-fighter torpedo launcher. This torpedo is fast, and very maneuverable, but not as powerful as a normal proton." Luise said and then should them the test footage.
In this footage you can see four of these fighters chasing eight pirate x-wings that where trying to get away from the four Crystals. As the Crystals came into firing range they let loss with both their cold fusion and tam and bak cannons, shredding apart one x-wing and seriously damaging the second. The other six sped off at high speed and attempted to evade the Crystals but failed when two more of these fighters appeared in front of them and reduced four of their numbers into molten slag. The last two came to a stop and powered down their weapons, perhaps realizing that fighting them wasn't a smart idea.
He checked the clock and noticed that an hour had already passed. On schedule he said and shifted to the next module. He then changed the holographic image to show a module that was chased like an organic triangle, in other words, no edges. This module had two large cannons on the left and right side of the center 'point' he then highlighted four turrets that where positioned in strategic locations that made it so that the craft could be more easily protected. "This is the Assault Module. It's armed with two heavy 'nova cannons' that fire a concentrated beam of energy straight ahead of itself. This beam is extremely deadly and can destroy any fighter that comes into contact with it; because of the constant stream of energy that is being fired this module has the slowest turn rate of any. Because of this it's used strictly against corvette's and other capital class ships. However this module can also be used against stations and ground targets. The four turrets are manned and located in a way that makes it so that enemy fighters will have a difficult time taking out this ship, however, this ship is vulnerable when it's lining up for an attack on an enemy corvette or capital ship because it can't move while the beam if firing." Luise stopped and took another breath.
After he allowed this information to sink in he then showed them test footage. It showed one of these fighters making a run on a derelict corvette that floated aimlessly in space. In the background you can hear the 'rumble' and 'hum' of the modules two massive cannons are they charged up. You can also hear the co-pilot and weapon's officer on board counting down before the weapon was ready to fire.
Ten seconds into the footage two massive beams of red and blue energy shout out of the two cannons and arced through space; it took only fifteen seconds for the beams to connect with the corvette's hull and reducing it to nothing more than molten bit's. The beam cut the corvette in half and sent its two sections spiraling through space.
After watching the footage he turned back to the cadets who were astonished; some looked on in fear. Some turned to talk to other cadets.
He waited another few minutes before shifting to the next module. The hologram changed to show a diamond shaped module, but this to was also organic in appearance. "This is the deep scan module." he said and highlighted several areas. The module bristled with dish's and antenna's, "This module was created to help scan deep space for incoming enemy craft." he said and turned back to the cadets. "This module can also detected cloaked ships before they are able to get within range." he said but he wasn't about to mention that 'some' cloaked ships couldn't be picked up since they hadn't encountered them just yet.
Turning his bed to his notes he had the cadets open the book to a set page which had technical read outs of the range of the sensors; it was so technical however that some cadets closed the book, while others looked like they were going to have to take a long vacation just to get all this down.
Finally he was on the last module; already three hours had passed. His muscles ached from standing there this whole time, but he was enjoying himself as this was the first time he had presented outside of his organization.
"Our final module is the Jammer." he said and shifted the holographic image over to show what the jammer looked like. "This is the jammer." he said and highlighted the important components of the module. "Armed with the latest in Electronic Counter Measures and Electronic Counter Counter Measures; it's more than capable of jamming any 'known' ordinance. However at the same time-" he said and highlighted the four turrets on the module "-it's also armed with four unmanned fast firing turrets that are more than capable of taking out any ordinance that is fired at it or the ship it's assigned to protect."
He let out a breathe and smiled. "Any questions?" he asked and one cadet stood up. "Does each module have a crew member? Or are they all operated by the main craft?"
Luise smiled. "Each module has at least one crew member with the Assault Module having six in total." he answered
The cadet sat back down and another stood up. "I noticed from reading the technical read outs that this ship isn't armed with any shields. Why?" he asked.
"The ship doesn't use shields because the Serendivus don't rely on them. Shield's cause issues with our systems, however the Crystal is still hard to destroy. It's equipped with Adaptive Armor that allows it to adapt to weapons used against it; however please keep in mind that an enemy can still take you out if they realize that all they have to do is concentrate fire on one area." Luise answered. "But most people don't know that." he said after words.
The cadet nodded and took his seat. Another cadet toward the back soon stood up and asked her question. "I noticed in some of the footage that some of these ships where cloaked." she asked and Luise nodded. "The crystal is armed with the Serendivus Cloak MK 1. We have made it available to the Coalition for usage. This makes the Crystal harder to destroy because it's capable of cloaking and being out of your line of sight, however that doesn't make you indestructible, don't forget, you have to declock to fire. But it's a nice device that allows you to sneak up on your enemy. Even better when you're in the Assault Module and sneaking up on a corvette that doesn't have its shields up." Luise grinned and turned back to the cadets. After a few minutes of no more questions he nodded. "I appreciate you all for your respect and curtisy, if you have any question's I will be around for the next few hours." he said and got off the podium and walked behind the curtains.
In the back he took a drink from a cup of water and sighed. "I'm not used to speaking to cadets." he said and wiped the sweat from his forehead. "I'm more used to speaking to teenagers and children."
"But you did good." His assistant said.
Luise merely nodded before walking back out into the Auditorium to answer any questions that may come his way.
A shuttle flew around several of the asteroids and toward what appeared to be a station embedded into an asteroid. "We have clearance." the pilot said as he guided his craft into the hanger bay.
