Part 1: Sullustan Conspiracy (Sullust Takeover)

Omega Base, Corellia System

Secreted away within a conveniently located cloud of asteroids just beyond the boundaries of the Corellia system, the Omega Base was the nucleus of the New Republic Intelligence division. Within it's walls, the most brilliant minds of the Republic worked in complete secrecy towards one end; the security of that Republic, and it's people. While the spy holodramas dictated otherwise, nintey percent of all intelligence work occured in the office; analyzation, tactical speculation.

So it was today, under the watchful eye of Kasien Treseda.

Hardened by the battles of the Chiss War, Kasien was no stranger to the dangerous life of an Intelligence Agent. Nor was he a stranger to the careful contemplation required of one. This day, the analysts of the NRI debated the intentions shown by the communications intercepted by a Republic probe droid, in the Muunilist system. Whomever this man was -- and Kasien would not say, citing the top-priority of the mission -- he was clearly conducting diplomatic relations with the Empire.

"Opinions, gentlemen?" Kasien asked, as the tape finished playing. "I trust you have reviewed the other documents I sent you." A general chorus of replies in the affirmative rose up, and so, Treseda motioned for free discussion to begin.

'Sir, I for one, believe this presents is a definite motive of aggression towards the New Republic.' One man spoke up, bearing the badge of an army Colonel. He was relatively young, for his office; obviously, he was talented in his field. Which was why he now worked for the NRI. 'While the conversational log is relatively inconclusive, I believe that this personal history dictates something resembling a motive. Subject presents a definite benevolence towards isolationist species and cultures.'

'And,' Another spoke, 'A decided ignorance of political know-how. While he may not realize it, striving towards the possible goals outlined in conversational analysis A,' He said, referring to the psychological analysis of the conversation provided to them upon enterring the meeting, 'Would definitely place him in an un-enviable political position.'

"A rock and a hard place, yes. I concur, certainly." Kasien agreed, nodding to the two. "That presents us motive. Ability? And perhaps some kind of historical presedent for such action?"

'Subject presents repeated 'crusades' of this sort, sir,' Spoke one officer, in a hissing tone. The repitillian was a Krick, an Asthentian species with a long snout and scaled skin. This one, who Kasien recognized as Vellizen, was a descendant of the infamous Garen, the Krick who discovered the planet Csilla. 'Which would indicated he is psssychologically prone to do such a thing again. Regardless of circumstance or evidence that the New Republic is not an association of tyrantssss.'

Kasien nodded. "A typical standpoint. We appear benevolent, and so, are assumed to be malevolent. Now. All we need is evidence of this treachery."

'His double-dealings with the Empire, of course, sir.' One officer said. 'Regardless of whether or not it can be assumed that the knowledge we derive from that log is correct, the mere fact that he addressed the Empire before the Republic leads me to believe his intentions are... less than pure.'

"Fair enough. The name of Assumed Target One has been cited on numerous intercepted transmissions in and out of Subject's base of operations." Kasien said, even then being cautious. It was far too dangerous to even speak the names of the target in a meeting such as this; though each man, through necessity, knew what that target was, there were enough aides present that saying it aloud could be dangerous. "But, we are not the Rebellion, anymore. We need evidence. Given what we have established, how do we go about getting it? ...Opinions?"

'Sir, given this Subject's psychological appraisal and what has been said here, this is more likely a goal, and an ambition, than it is an officially documented, governmentally funded assignment. Thus, it wouldn't be recorded on any political documents, or ever transmitted.' Said one of the intelligence operatives, an experienced one.

'Agreed.' Another said. 'However, sir, I would argue that it is likely something he has discussed, or made clear, to high-ranking politicians dedicated to his cause... so that they might nudge the rest of Subject's diplomatic corps in that direction.'

"A party agenda," Kasien said, nodding. The men he'd gathered were thinkers, all. The best in the business. "Perhaps, then, politicians who rank highly not within the official heirarchy, but within his political party."

'Yes, sir.'

'Politicians of that level have offices of their own, and assistants, sir. We'd not want to arouse too much suspicion.'

'And generally, those assistants have secretaries. They would certainly have something referring to it within their documents.'

"Alright, then." Kasien said. "We'll find the next transport moving out of Subject's capital. Data infiltration, I would assume."

'We're not going to detain one of them?'

"Too brutal." Kasien replied, shaking his head. "I'll have the mission carried out as soon as possible. Thank you, gentlemen."

'Yes, sir.'

New Republic Military Headquarters, Coruscant

==/ New Republic Intelligence Report \==

Subject Beta-See-Gamma has been labelled as possessing motive and presedent for hostile acts upon the New Republic, based on his objections to our move into the Unknown Regions. It has been determined that given his history of such things, plans or intentions for hostilities would be recorded not in officials manifestos, but under some kind of unofficial politicial party document.

N.R.I. agents stole aboard a Faction Beta-See-Gamma transport moving from Subject's capital. They entered the secure data facilities of the secretary of a political assistant, and secured the data within. It indicates plans to move on New Republic core worlds from an unknown location, suspected to be in the deep core.

Suggest immediate neutralization of Subject's capital world and elimination of Faction Beta-See-Gamma's power base. Without corporational funding, Subject's ability to fund political campaigns and gain leverage would be severely crippled.

-Agent Ganymede

Gash Jiren read the report with trepedation, easily decoding the code phrases he'd outlined for the Intelligence investigation. The entire investigation had commenced from troubling evidence uncovered on Ammuud, evidence of the Corporate Sector Authority offshoot operating from that world had some sort of funding. It had been Firel Nekkelon, the Sullustan senator and Speaker of the House, who had first aroused Gash's suspicions about Faction Beta-See-Gamma; SoroSuub.

The corrupted and dark company known as SoroSuub and operating from the Sullustan homeworld of Sullust had dissolved the Sullustan Government, taking control of the planet upon which all life had been forced underground by harsh climates. The corporation had declared it's loyalty to the Empire, despite Palpatine's hatred of non-humans.

In the years since Palpatine's death, turmoil had reigned within the SoroSuub company. With alleigances wavering, Intelligence now reported that a new power had emerged within it; one who was apparently called "Jevell Werkon". Subject Beta-See-Gamma. The symbols on the supposedly-Spaarti Cloning cylinders Rogue Jedi forces had found upon Ammuud bore symbols strikingly similar to what Firel Nekkelon had identified as the Werkon family symbol.

Werkon had a decidedly dark past, with alleigences ranging from the Black Sun to the Empire. Apparently, he had allied with the Empire only to destroy it from within, spurred upon some kind of great quest of vengeance upon them for what they'd done to Prince Xizor's people, the Falleen, and for Palpatine's notoriously duplicit dealings with the Black Sun leader. Apparently, Jevell Werkon had an intense compassion for species who had been wronged; one which drove him to evil acts. Werkon assassinated five high ranking officials in the Empire before the Emperor's death, and disappeared from the public stage.

Until, of course, now.

Gash glanced across his desk, dropping the datapad bearing the report onto it and sliding it to Firel. The diminutive Sullustan took it gingerly, as if it were some kind of baradium explosive, and his quick eyes scanned the page. His gaze grew more incredulous before he set it down, nodding at Gash.
'It seems that I was right.'

"Hardly something to gloat about," Gash replied, "Given what you were right about." Firel's smile shrunk slightly in response, but remained.

'True enough. Your friend Ganymede didn't tell us just where our SoroSuub enemies want to launch an assault from, however. I don't see how we can act on this.'

"Pre-emptively," Gash replied, not missing a beat. He sat foreward, gesturing to the datapad. "Treseda is thorough. If he couldn't find out where they're launching the attack from, it's probably because the planning is in a stage so early that knowing it won't help a politician much." Gash sat back again, and glanced out the room's viewport. "Pre-emptively. We'll swipe the rug out from under Werkon."

'Not very Jedi-like.'

"I'm not very Jedi-like, Firel. Need I remind you what an Imperial supporter SoroSuub has been?"

Firel raised an eyebrow, almost seeking to remind Jiren of his heritage. 'Hardly. But without evidence...?'

"Oh, but we do have evidence. One of those officials that Werkon assassinated was a Rebel sympathizer, funding us behind the Empire's back. Given that the New Republic sprang from the Rebellion, we have a case with which to arrest Werkon on the charge of a warcrime."

'An arrest attempt that will be met with resistance by his forces. I doubt Jevell Werkon will just let himself be captured.' Firel added to Gash's thoughts, drawing an annoyed glare from the New Republic military commander.

"Obviously. I'm counting on it."

Firel sighed his watery, Sullustan sigh. 'Can you prove this Imperial was a rebel sympathizer?'

"That's the problem."

'Ah. Isn't it always?'

Gash smiled. "But, I have a secret weapon."

Firel glowered at him. 'Gamma Squad?'

"Indeed."

The Sullustan snorted. 'They're untested. Unproven.'

"Commodore Pyro was very impressive in the simulations."

'Anyone with a name like "Pyro" is worthy of my suspicions. Send someone experienced. Send Tellien, in one of his Hapes Nova Battlecruisers.'

"No," Gash said, smiling still. "I think I'll send Gamma Squad."

'What if they bauble it? You don't know how well they'll work in a real situation.'

The Rogue Jedi Master chuckled. "What better way to test them?"

Commodore Pyro was asleep when the news got to him. He jumped out of bed with his gun in hand after the first beep. It had been a long night for him, and he was startled to see that it was already noon. The small collapsable data pad was right next to his bed, sitting on his work desk. Pyro picked it up as it beeped a second time, and opened it up. He decoded the message and started reading it.

Greetings Commodore Pyro. I understand that Gamma Squad is doing fine? We have an assignment for you, something you should be able to handle. Get the team together, and I sha'll send your instructions soon.

"How interesting," Pyro thought to himself. "Jiren asking for Gamma Squad...well, I better gather the team, he doesn't like to wait around. The briefing should be here soon."

Pyro sent a message to each member of the Gamma Squad, asking them to meet in his appartment in two hours. Most of them were only about twenty minutes away, but a few might not make it on time. Coruscant was big and crowded, but Pyro could wait.
