Part 1: Sullustan Conspiracy (Sullust Takeover)
Omega Base, Corellia System
Secreted away within a conveniently located cloud of asteroids just beyond the boundaries of the Corellia system, the Omega Base was the nucleus of the New Republic Intelligence division. Within it's walls, the most brilliant minds of the Republic worked in complete secrecy towards one end; the security of that Republic, and it's people. While the spy holodramas dictated otherwise, nintey percent of all intelligence work occured in the office; analyzation, tactical speculation.
So it was today, under the watchful eye of Kasien Treseda.
Hardened by the battles of the Chiss War, Kasien was no stranger to the dangerous life of an Intelligence Agent. Nor was he a stranger to the careful contemplation required of one. This day, the analysts of the NRI debated the intentions shown by the communications intercepted by a Republic probe droid, in the Muunilist system. Whomever this man was -- and Kasien would not say, citing the top-priority of the mission -- he was clearly conducting diplomatic relations with the Empire.
"Opinions, gentlemen?" Kasien asked, as the tape finished playing. "I trust you have reviewed the other documents I sent you." A general chorus of replies in the affirmative rose up, and so, Treseda motioned for free discussion to begin.
'Sir, I for one, believe this presents is a definite motive of aggression towards the New Republic.' One man spoke up, bearing the badge of an army Colonel. He was relatively young, for his office; obviously, he was talented in his field. Which was why he now worked for the NRI. 'While the conversational log is relatively inconclusive, I believe that this personal history dictates something resembling a motive. Subject presents a definite benevolence towards isolationist species and cultures.'
'And,' Another spoke, 'A decided ignorance of political know-how. While he may not realize it, striving towards the possible goals outlined in conversational analysis A,' He said, referring to the psychological analysis of the conversation provided to them upon enterring the meeting, 'Would definitely place him in an un-enviable political position.'
"A rock and a hard place, yes. I concur, certainly." Kasien agreed, nodding to the two. "That presents us motive. Ability? And perhaps some kind of historical presedent for such action?"
'Subject presents repeated 'crusades' of this sort, sir,' Spoke one officer, in a hissing tone. The repitillian was a Krick, an Asthentian species with a long snout and scaled skin. This one, who Kasien recognized as Vellizen, was a descendant of the infamous Garen, the Krick who discovered the planet Csilla. 'Which would indicated he is psssychologically prone to do such a thing again. Regardless of circumstance or evidence that the New Republic is not an association of tyrantssss.'
Kasien nodded. "A typical standpoint. We appear benevolent, and so, are assumed to be malevolent. Now. All we need is evidence of this treachery."
'His double-dealings with the Empire, of course, sir.' One officer said. 'Regardless of whether or not it can be assumed that the knowledge we derive from that log is correct, the mere fact that he addressed the Empire before the Republic leads me to believe his intentions are... less than pure.'
"Fair enough. The name of Assumed Target One has been cited on numerous intercepted transmissions in and out of Subject's base of operations." Kasien said, even then being cautious. It was far too dangerous to even speak the names of the target in a meeting such as this; though each man, through necessity, knew what that target was, there were enough aides present that saying it aloud could be dangerous. "But, we are not the Rebellion, anymore. We need evidence. Given what we have established, how do we go about getting it? ...Opinions?"
'Sir, given this Subject's psychological appraisal and what has been said here, this is more likely a goal, and an ambition, than it is an officially documented, governmentally funded assignment. Thus, it wouldn't be recorded on any political documents, or ever transmitted.' Said one of the intelligence operatives, an experienced one.
'Agreed.' Another said. 'However, sir, I would argue that it is likely something he has discussed, or made clear, to high-ranking politicians dedicated to his cause... so that they might nudge the rest of Subject's diplomatic corps in that direction.'
"A party agenda," Kasien said, nodding. The men he'd gathered were thinkers, all. The best in the business. "Perhaps, then, politicians who rank highly not within the official heirarchy, but within his political party."
'Yes, sir.'
'Politicians of that level have offices of their own, and assistants, sir. We'd not want to arouse too much suspicion.'
'And generally, those assistants have secretaries. They would certainly have something referring to it within their documents.'
"Alright, then." Kasien said. "We'll find the next transport moving out of Subject's capital. Data infiltration, I would assume."
'We're not going to detain one of them?'
"Too brutal." Kasien replied, shaking his head. "I'll have the mission carried out as soon as possible. Thank you, gentlemen."
'Yes, sir.'
