Space is vast,with millions,perhaps billions of stars occupying the void.Thousands of years ago the first explorers piloted their ships without hyperdrives to search for any kind of sentient life in the vast void of space.When Grand Admiral Thrawn came to power one of his first priorities after the death of Emperor Palpitine and the destruction of the second Death Star at Endor was to find and take control of Wayland.The Emperor had set up a storhouse to store all of his plans and prototypes for new weapons.After Thrawn had died at Bilbringi Wayland was largely deserted,except for a fewe thousand Noghri and the native inhabitants.Now Grand Admiral Joren Logan decided that Wayland was too close to New Alliance bases on Myrkr and Obroa-skai to be left alone.That's why he had taken the Freedom's Choice and the [/i]Keerow[/i] to Wayland to capture.


The 50 year old human sat in the Admirals chair on board the Freedom's Choice staring at the white swirls of hyperspace.He was thinking back to a time when war was the last thing on his mind.

20 years ago his wife,Keira had been killed in a fire in the house on Almania.Logan had been out directing the battle against the Empire when it happened.He remembered Captain Neychev reading a datapad,his face had turned white because of what he had been reading.He turned to Logan and handed him the datapad.

General Logan,

We rergret to inform you that your wife,Keira Logan, died in a fire at your house today.The causes of the fire are presently unknown.

Logan had just stared at the datapad,frozen with fear,anguish,and sadness.His lips moved but no words came out.Captain Neychev just stood there,unsure what to do.Logan felt dizy,he quickly went to his quarters and slumped to his knees and screamed.He pounded the floor of his command ship,the Empire had supplied to the New Alliance.He pounded the floor untill his hands were numb.He stayed i his quarters for the rest of the month.Neychev posted a 24 hour guard at Logan's door so he would not be disturbed.

When he finally came out of his room to go to Keira's funeral he looked like he had been shot out of a torpedo tube.Neychec helped the Admiral prepare for the funeral.After the funeral was over Logan walked up to his wife's coffin.He stood there for a long time,just staring at the coffin.After a while he put a single Lavender rose,Keira's favorte on top of her coffin and walked away.

Now 20 years later Logan had never gotten over the death of his wife.It haunted him everyday of his life.Now he tried to focus on the mission,instead of remembering the past.

"Captain.What is our ETA?"

Neychev spun in his chair and looked at him.

"2 hours 17 minutes,sir"

"Good.I will be in my quarters,Captain"

"Yes sir"

::::::2 1/2 HOURS LATER::::::

The Freedom's Choice hung in orbit over Wayland.At the sight of the massive Star Destroyer the Noghri sent up a squadron of B-wings to greet it.The lead Noghri fighter hailed the Freedom's Choice.

"I am Kren'hiem.Who am I speaking to"?

"I am Grand Admiral Logan of The New Alliance Star Destroyer Freedom's Choice.We are on a mission of peace.Greetings"

"And to you,Admiral.What do you want with the Noghri"?

"Absolutely nothing.We simply want to establish a ground base on Wayland,and shipyards in orbit"

"You will have to speak with the maitrakh,Khabhk about this"

"Very well.I will be coming in 5 minutes"

The Noghri was silent for a moment and then spoke.

"We have been ordered to escort you down to the Grand Duhka.We will wait here untill your shuttle is on it's way"

"I appreciate your kindness,Kren'hiem.My shuttle will launch shortly"

After about 5 or 6 minutes the YT-2400, Guardian of Peace left the Freedom's choice.The B-Wing squadron settled into escort positions alongside the Guar.

Wade Vox,who was at the controls of the Guardian,smiled at Logan.

"Well,Logan it looks like you get to meet with the Noghri"

"Have you ever met one"?

The Jedi Knight smiled lightly.

"Many times in fact.I had some dealings with a few before I joined the New ALliance and the Jedi."

Wade pointed to a scar on his arm.

"I got that from a Noghri who insisted I give him a better deal on an old junk heap,a YT-1300.That was when I help sell used ships on Correlia right before I went to Naboo to recieve Jedi Training."

"I'm glad you've met them.Because I would be in the dark on how to act around one"

"Didn't you study the database on the Noghri"?

"I skimmed it"

Wade frowned and gave Logan a look.

"What? I glanced at it briefly.I had a lot of things on my mind"

"About what?"

"Oh-.....nothing"

The Guardian settled down smoothly on a landing pad in New Nystro.The Jedi and the Grand Admiral walked down the ramp and was greeted by a Noghri female.

"Greetings,Grand Admiral,Jedi Vox.I am pleased to meet you."

"As am I,Maitrakh.I am eager to hear your thoughts on our plans."

The Maitrakh led them to a huge building,the Grand Duhka if Logan remember correctly.The Maitrakh settled in a chair on the back wall of the building.

"So, what is it you wish to do over Wayland?"

"I wish to establish ground bases and defenses on Wayland and put shipyards in orbit to manafacture ships"

"Warships"

"Defense ships,Maitrakh"

"I see.Do you want the Noghri to join your New Alliance?"

"I did not come here to ask the Noghri if they wanted to join,only to establish-"

"-Shipyards and ground bases,yes I know.Will you establish your bases and shipyards without the Noghri's consent?"

"I prefer not to,Maitrakh"

"But you will if we do not agree"?

"No,I will go somewhere else,the Noghri were here first.I understand and respect that"

"You are different then many people that I have met,Grand Admiral Logan.I respect that too."

"So, what is your decision?"

"You may build your bases and shipyards on Wayland"

"And the Noghri"?

"You have not done anything for us,Grand Admiral Logan.Why should we join The New Alliance?"

"I see,good day Maitrakh"

"And to you too"

Logan turned and left the Grand Dukha and back to the Guardian.



::::Several Hours Later::::

She was standing there.........[/i]her face was glowing and beutiful.Her face was twisted into a look that seemed to say: "Why were you not there to save me when I needed you?[/i]........ Why,Joren.... why?......

He awoke with a gasp.Keira had been standing there asking him why he wasn't there to save her.He wanted to shut off all those painful memories,to shut of all the guilt and pain he felt for not being there.
Circumstance had prevented him from being there with her,to save her.

"Admiral, the Maitrakh wishes to speak with you in the Grand Dukha"

"Understood,Captain.Inform the Maitrakh that I will be there at once"

"Yes,sir"

Logan got out of bed tiredly.He had been working so hard for the New Alliance.He needed a break and he knew Vonta,Jump, and Wade needed one too.

I will make sure they get a vacation

Logan made his way down to the hangar and found Wade already prepping the Guardian.He would have to remember to thank Wade for geting up in the middle of the night to help Logan.
The ship made it's way down to New Nystao and landed.Logan stepped out and walked down the ramp by himself,wade had asked if he could stay behind because of a faulty power regulator in the Guardian's Ion cannons.

The Maitrakh walked solmnly up to him,a grim look on her face.

"Admiral,we have a problem"

"Please,tell me

"In the Grand Duhka,if you will"

The Maitrakh led the way again to the Grand Duhka and her and Logan went inside.

"We have discovered remanants of an intruder's camp near the Forbiden Mountain"
Logan felt a start of surprise,he had ordered that the Freedom's Choice do constant sensor sweeps of the area near New Nystao and Mount Tantiss.

"I ordered my sensor officers to conduct constant sensor sweeps of the Forbidden Mountain."

"My two thirdsons found a firepit,a stack of firewood,and small indentions in the ground that looked to be from small starfighters"

"Starfighters?...one moment"

Logan switched the comm to the Freedom['s sensor officers.

"Leutenent,run a sensor scan of the area around Mount Tantiss"

"One moment,sir..............................................Scan complete,sir.A few thousand Noghri,natives,and two humans.No ships other than the Noghri's and yours sir"

"Thank you,luetenant.You see, Maitrakh? there are no starfighters on Wayland"

"My thirdsons do not lie,Grand Admiral Logan.If they say the saw a campsite,then they saw a campsite"

"I will send-"

Suddenly a shrill Noghri battle cry echoed through New Nystao.two Noghri shoved Logan to the ground as blaster fire filed the air where he had been.Logan distinctly heard a Lightsaber being ignited as the two Noghri pulled him up and out of the Grand Dukha,and behind a large rock.
Logan drew his blaster as he peered over the rock.He saw Wade with a group of Noghri,deflecting blaster boltsmthat were coming from inside the trees.Logan pulled his comlink out and ordered reinforcements from the Freedom's Choice.The Noghri were hurling assassin knives into the trees and the blaster fire intensified.
Already two Correlian Corvettes and two Assassin Corvettes were landing and DarkTroopers were pouring out of them.Soon the blaster fire had stooped and Noghri search parties were dispatched to find the culprits of the attack.

The Maitrakh and Wade walked up to him.

"Ten Noghri were killed,more would have been killed if your Jedi freind had not been here"

Wade nodded solmnly at the Maitrakh.

"We think it was Imperials who did this"

Logan was surprised.

"Imperials!?..how?"

The Maitrakh nodded.
"We belive that when the Empire evacuated Wayland they left some clones to hide and protect the Mountan.We belive they did this"

"Well, when will the search parties find the Imperials"?

"It would go faster if we had help from a ship in orbit"

Logan nodded.
"I will order my sensors to keep scanning.And I will order Darktroopers to spread out and find the Imperials"

Soon the Darktroopers were covering the forest with the Noghri.They found remanants of two more Imperial camps and some hydrospanners.Logan had asked the Maitrakh if he could construct a command center to coordinate the search and she agreed,so Logan was now in his newly constructed command center.His officers issued orders to the search teams,opperated scanning systems,and talked to the Noghri commando teams.Logan was confedent that they would soon find the secretive and elusive Imperials;however,the Maitrakh was not so confedint.She reasoned that the forest was large and if the Imperials had a ship like Logan and the Noghri feared,they could be anywhere on the planet.Logan ordered 10 Y4 Transports and squads of Tie Defenders to fly in patrols and find the Imperials with their scaners and sensors,two Defenders per Transport.Soon the airborne search parties spooted a small group of about 10 stormtroopers and 2 officers.Darktroopers were immedietly dispatched to take care of the Imperials.They suffered heavily losses,with almost 100 Darktroopers destroyed;nevertheless they annihilated the Imperials.Logan met with the Maitrakh and she agreed to join the New Alliance Logan immedietly ordered his garrison to be built in the Mount Tantiss compound,established fighter bases all over the planet with about 10 total fighter bases,each holding 2 squadrons of fighters.

The Keerow was stationed at Wayland to help with the setup of the fighter bases and the Mount Tantiss garrison.Logan told the Freedom's Choice to go ahed and go to Kessel to help guard The New Alliance and The Mon Calamiri Fleet's shipyards.Logan decided to stay on Wayland and help the Noghri and help setup the Tantiss garrison.In his personal command center he had a map of the galaxy,with the respective groups space shaded in a particular color.The New Republic's space was shaded in blue,The New Order's space was shaded in red,the Mon Calamiri Fleet's space was shaded in green,The New Alliance's space was left black,The Chimera Fleet's space was shaded in brown,The Rogue Empire's space was shaded in gold.
TNA's target planets were glowing brightly,indicating where TNA was going to strike next.Logan stared at the map,wondering if The New Alliace was going to survive in the end.He knew that The New Order, and all the other enemy factions were intent on destroying the New Republic,The New Alliance and The Mon Calamiri Fleet.The Almanian goverment had given him the task of defending Almania and the worlds within the New Alliance.He never had wanted it,in fact as a boy he had wanted to be a starship machanic,not the Leader of a military of any kind.If he had never accepted the task of leading the New Alliance he would have been able to protect his wife when that fire ravaged his home.He dreamed of her death every night of his life,every time hoping that somehow it would end differently,but his hopes were hollow,it never ended differently she always died asking why Logan hadn't been there to help or save her.......


"Sir,the Noghri wish to see you at once"
"Thank you Captain"

The Maitrakh was waiting for him in the Mount Tantiss garrison when he arrived in the Noghri's part of the complex.

"Yor wanted to see me,Maitrakh"
"Yes,Grand Admiral Logan.I have a gift for you" She guestured with her right hand and an adult Noghri walked out of the shadows.

"My name is Mahk Clan Bak'dor.I have been assigned as your body guard,my lord"

"Maitrakh?"

"It is as he says,Grand Admiral logan.The Noghri are forever indebted to you and the New Alliance.I wanted to show that grattitude by giving you my fourthson,Mahk"

"Maitrakh, I hope you understand that I had no intentions whatsoever to take your people away from their home...you don't have to give me this....gift."

"As I said before,Grand Admiral Logan,I want you to be safe from harm.Mahk is willing to give his life for you.All of the Noghri are"

"Then that is why I will forever be indebted to you,Maitrakh"

"If that is your wish,my lord then let it be so"

"Come Mahk let's go outside"

"I obey my lord

Logan stood in front of Admiral Horn and JumpBump.

"I Want you two to establish starfighter garrisons,I could do it myself But I want to strengthen our alliance with the Noghri.Report back to me when you are done,I have a few chores for the 2nd fleet"

Once there he went to the Noghri Grand dhukka and explained his intentions. They agreed as long as they would hire Noghri if they wantedto be hired and as long as if the Noghri have realized a threat in a emergency they could order the Fighters to launch themselves. Jump agreed seing that this would be another way to strengthen their relationships with the Noghri. then he went about and began to give orders. A prefabricated garrison would be landed on the Planet to serve as Crew and Pilot quarters. Then fuel would begin to be shiped there once every 2 weeks. Simulaters and other Computer anc Comm equipment would arrive in 1 Week. As would trained personnel pilots, ground crew men and others. Finally He Got the Soldiers to begin working on the landing Pad Hangar Bay and Ops Center. The First thing they did was clean a clearing of Brush and Trees for the Landing Pad. They had decided on underground Hangar Bays and eventually the Ops Center and Barracks would be moved their. So they began drilling holes into the ground. Luckily after they'd only gone about 20 meters under they discoverd a huge underground Caver that would do as a Hangar. Up top The soldiers had begun using Ferrocrete and Durasteel. To make the Ops Center. It was decided that there would be multiple sensor arrays of all different Types Visual Sensors, Passive Sensors,Active Sensors, Life Form Sensors and Com-Scan just to name a few. They were to be given advanced Power output so they could sense most of the Solar System. The Comm System could send a Sublight Message to the whole Solar System and It was also hooked up with HyperComm and HoloNet Transeivers. They decided on Stationing 6 squadrons a whole wing of fighters at this base which was named Mountain Base. In honor of the Mountain were the Emperor used to have his storehouse that was so close by.Finally the moment arrived. Equipment and Personnel began to arrive. The Sensors, tools, computers, comm systems and the huge elevator for the Hangar just to name a few of the systems were promptly installed. The Men were promtly put to work preparing for the arrival of the fighters, putting in the new equipment and enlargining the Under ground Cavern. 1 week later the fighters arrived 6 squadrons of Tie Fighters all prpped up and ready to go were put in the Hangar. Mountain Base was officially operational! 1 Day later the first Fuel Shipment arrived as well as supplies and repair parts for the fighters and the Power Generator. The Base had begun a beehive of people there were Humans, Verpine, Noghri and many other alien species. After the Base had been operational 1 month the Ops center was finished under ground. Immeaditly all the equipment except The Sensors and Comm equipment were moved under ground. The equipment that remained was all hooked up to the moniters under ground. 1 week after that the crew quarter were finished under ground and the diggers had come across a possible location for a Geothermal power source. Seeing the advantage of a Geothermal Power source over one that burned precious fuel Admiral Jump immeaditly ordered the old power generator to be scrapped and a new one Geo-Thermal one to be errected. Finally Mountain Base was running smoothly and it was with some sorrow that Admiral Jup turned Command over to the New Base Commander, Commander Galdrit. Then he went and reported back to Admiral Logan.<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->
"Sir I have fullfilled my duties amd fimished the Starfighter Garrison what is your new order?" Jump said

"Admiral Jump I want you to come to Mount Tantiss as soon as possible."

Logan turned to Mahk.

"How long have you know that it was here? it was supposed to have been destroyed in the explosion."

"The Maitrakh and I have decided to keep it a secret because we can't do anything about it except destroy it....and we didn't want to do that untill we had reveiwed all of our options"

"That doesn't sound like the Noghri I knew"

"The Grand Admiral is wise,yes normally we would have destroyed it because it is of Thrawn,however it is also a reminder of what he did"

"You can put up statues and muesems for that,Mahk"

"Yes but.....the Maitrakh has her reasons,my lord"

"I'm sure"

Logan turned to what a few soldiers had found.

A Spaarti Cloning Cylinder.

"The Noghri are extremely adaptable warriors Maitrakh. How is it your people are always in the right spot, at the right time to strike?"

*The aging Maitrakh laughed softly and spoke in their ancient tongue.*

"Because, human, we are honorable."

The human showed confustion at the enigmatic riddle and the Maitrakh continued. "Our people are like the winds, scattered throughout planets, taken sometimes against our will. Our abilities are the only things that set us apart and make us a valued commodity."

*The human winced at the implications.*

"We know how others view us." Just then the Maitrakh stood and beckoned for the human to follow. "Allow me to show you our power."

*The human watched as an Imperial Officer walked in, as if totally in control of the planet, hell, of the galaxy.*

"We have saved your people from this rogue aggressor." the Imperial Officer stated flatly and the Maitrakh, in the form that honor demanded, stated in appreciation: "Allow me to present my seventh son to serve as your bodyguard."

The Imperial Officer's eyes widened a bit and he made a show of not wanting to accept. However, the Maitrakh would not take no for an answer. "Do not dishonor us with a refusal. My son is quite capable and will defend your life with his own."

*The transaction was complete, and the Imperial left, leaving the Maitrakh's human observer to simply stare in awe as understanding presented itself.*

"With everyone that uses your people, you have one of your people always near their leaders."

The Maitrakh smiled. "Never is the transaction equal. People use us for their own ends, our people, our home, our world, and always we settle for the peace of mind in knowing that if we are betrayed, if our honor is walked over, we shall be on hand to strike our enemy's head."

"The flaying body sometimes can kill too Maitrakh."

The Maitrakh's smile showed, "But only to those nearest. Our people are never near."

Then the Maitrakh turned to the human. "So, you wish a bodyguard as well?"

The human laughed rather good naturedly. "I hope to give you something more equal in value."

The Maitrakh's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "And this equal item?"

The man called for his people to come forward and a little boy was brought out. "This is my youngest son, Maitrakh. He is yours. Do with him as you will. Make him glad to give his life for yours..."

And the alien's eyes lit up. "Truly, an honorable transaction Mr. Descartes. I accept."

Now:

Wayland - Presentium


"You made a good and honorable transaction today, Maitrakh." said a human figure.

"They will put their weapons of war in your skies and on your ground."

"Defense weapons..." came the raspy reply and the human laughed mirthlessly.

"Semantics."

"These people are as aggressive as the Empire before. In fact, they are no different than the Empire they seem to hate so much."

"They fought for our people... they said they would leave if asked.."


"When one holds all the cards, Maitrakh, one can affort to be magnanimous. And our people wouldn't have been killed if they hadn't been going where they shouldn't. But no, you give them permission for their shipyards, for their construction yards and they feel they have run of the entire planet! Have I taught you nothing of human deceit?"

The alien leader laughed at that.

"Yes..you have taught us. The transaction is the same as it was with the Empire. Nothing of value offered for our honor...and these.. these people demand more of us."

"This time the flaying body will be close..." the human warned.

The Maitrakh closed it's eyes. "Yes...."

"Jedi using Dark Troopers... Of <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> course<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->, they are going to keep Mount Tantiss!! They are nothing but children playing with Palpatine's bones. The ends justify the means.."

*and the human laughed.*

"They are on their way to the darkside and soon it will consume them totally..."

"and the Noghri?" whispered the Maitrakh.

The human went over to the Maitrakh, went to his knees and bowed. "The Noghri will remain in the shadows, honor preserved."

"Strike true, my son." the Maitrakh intoned..'

The human nodded, "Strike honorably, Maitrakh." and he left.

A single Spaarti Cloning cylinder had been found by these new intruders.

*The transport lifted up and away from Wayland.*

*He looked out into space.*

*The transport entered hyperspace.*

The Spaarti Cloning Cylinder was smashed.It didn't work but it was the only one that wasn't obliterated in the explosion caused by Han Solo and Lando Calrissian.Logan had his chief Scientists come and anylize the cylinder.The reports from the scientists were promising and if they could repair a few things and a lot of minor things like the transparasteel that was needed for the casing,it could be used for it's intended purpose,cloning.What was the main concern though was the answer to the question if it could be reproduced.The scientists said that they had been working on a Spaarti Cloning Cylinder for years and this partialy smashed one would send the Cloning project research ahed of schedule by many years.The scientists were confedent that in a months time they would have several more Cloning Cylinders operational.Logan sent the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Keerow<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> to escort the scientists who were transporting the valuble carg back to Almania,where it would be kept under heavy security.


After making sure that the Cylinder was safe Logan went back to Mount Tantiss.Admiral Jump had never arrived,for what purposes Logan did not know.<!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> I will have to address this little matter of not showing up when your superior orders you to a certain location.<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->.For now however Logan would just leave it alone untill if or when Jump actually arrives.After recieving confermation that the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Keerow<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> had recieved the scientists and the special cargo and had jumped into hyperspace.Going back to the former Emperors throne room Logan studied his galactic map.

Wade came into the War room at Mount Tantiss and saw Logan with his hands buried in his face.He walked silently up to him and spoke softly so not t startle him.

"Admiral."

"Oh! Hello,Wade.It is nice to see you.
I am sorry if I have not thanked you for saving me and the Noghri during that Imperial Attack.I have been having trouble with several other faction leaders lately.The Rogue Empire has just made a move on Mon Calamari.If We were still allies then I might order the fleet to go but Emperor Teebo sided with The Rogue Empire for a time,broke our alliance and doomed themselves.I don't know what to think anymore."

"What are you going to do?"

"Well, The New Alliance is going into isolation.None of this is our fight..and that's how it should be.Eventually we will come out......but I do not know when"

"I understand." In an ubrupt change of subject Wade said

"I have heared that we are in the procces of taking another planet."

"Yes.It is called Onyx.It is located in the Unknown Regions.I can not tell you anymore than that.Allthough I trust you completely it is that I don't completely trust this room.Besides Emperor Palpatine built it"

"And what of Mon Calamari?"

"There is nothing I can do for them right now.If I help them it will just cause more mess than before."

"You said they sided with The Rogue Empire.....what did you do after that?"

"You Jedi.......always the neutral ones huh? Anyway, Mon Calamari Fleet was allied with The Rogue Empire for a while untill we attacked.Then MCF attacked as well.I could not do anything to help them.Are you leaving soon?"

"I was....but if somthing more important comes up it can be postponed"

"Thanks Wade.....you were always a good friend.We need to get supplies into Mon Calamari.I am temporarily discharging you from the New Alliance so you can undertake a few smuggling missions for me.Will you do it?"

"Sure.But first I must go to the Jedi Temple soon.They are calling all Jedi there for somthing."

"Do you have to leave now?"

"No.In a few hours.Dee-four and Rocky are prepping the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Guardian<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->.As soon as they are done and I am packed I will go.By the way,there is rumors that a Spaarti Cylinder was found intact.Are they true?"

"Very true actually.A few soldiers happened upon it and reported it to their superior"

"What about the <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> Keerow<!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->? Also rumor has it that the ship left orbit"

"It did,escorting the cylinder back to secure labs on Almania."

Logan pushed yet another button and an old supply transport came up.
