<font color=silver>"Status?" An officer looked up at the flaming debris that had once been a ship of some kind and smiled thinly.
"Success, sir. No casualties among our forces... several damaged Republic vessels, mostly severe." Drayson nodded.

He had two choices now. Sit here and go blow for blow with the New Republic Task Force, or make a run for hyperspace and regroup with Freedom Fleet. Currently, his task force was formed up into a Skirmish line, made up of the Basilisk Cruisers, and a defensive line, made up of the Aegis Cruisers. The Missile Frigates providied two flanks, and both were throwing endless volleys of missile into the enemy fleet.

The enemy ships had still failed to respond when sensors indicated the EMPRESS had fired, and that Freedom Fleet was moving on the enemy's main task force.

"Let them decide, Captain." Hiram said thoughfully. "In the meantime, continue firing. Missile Frigates to conserve ammunition if possible. Target key enemy vessels."

Kamons fleet exited hyperspace well outside of the range of the abolisher fields. He had decided a long time ago that Mnar had to be stopped. He sat back, and began his attack on Mnar.

"All ships shields up, weapons online. I want all GDI ships designated allies, and fighters sent to help them out."

He turned to his Captain.

"Charge the superlaser. Our target is their command ships flanker."

"Yes, sir."

"And so begins my defection."

<font color=red>"New sensor contacts in Sector Eighteen! Star Destroyers, Mon Cal Cruisers, Nova-class Battlecruisers... looks like another New Republic assault division!" Dxun Isstal looked down at the readout and frowned. Something was not quite right...
"Major, does the Republic Armada include the Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer Law?" Major Devop, a career man with a sharp mind, shook his head immediatly.
"Negative, sir. The Super Star Destroyer Law is a Tholatin vessel, recently completed over that world and under the command of Prince Kamon Vondiranach." Dxun nodded, pleased.
"It looks as if the Tholatins have decided that the Republic's corruption has extended deeper than they originally thought. Right then, instruct all vessels to designate incoming vessels as friendly. Have Admiral Drayson's force meet with them and ask them kindly to stand and tangle with the Republic's Rear Guard, should those ships wish to play the game. And," he pasued, looking stricken for a moment, "warn them that EMPRESS is hot and ready. Have them be prepared for EMP waves. We'll see if we can't put our ships in EMPRESS's line of fire, that'll protect them."
"As ordered, sir."

His meditation had been interuppted by a small disturbance, an imbalance if you will within the Force.


He sat back further, reestablishing his link to the force, he probed further into the depths of the Galaxy, searching, trying to find what had unsettled him so.

This was strange, the divergance came from something familiar, another force user, another Rogue.

"Status?" The single word uttered by Hiram Drayson broke the silence that had settled over Sentinel's bridge. Aside from the distant thunder of turbolaser fire and impacts, not a sound could be heard as the crew looked out over the battle erupting in front of their eyes.

"Minimal shield loss, no sign of enemy starfighter activity. All ships reporting condition green." One of the ensigns spoke up from the crew pit, going through a list of ships and their status in the fleet. "The Tholatin fleet is holding its own, and making their way to our position." Drayson nodded, imprssed with the ensign's cool nerve in a situation like this. It was probably, he thought, the man's first real battle. And what a battle it was!

"Estimations on the enemy?"
"They're rough, sir. Our initial attack did severe damage to their flanking warships and caught them off guard enough that we were able to inflict a lot of damage without taking much ourselves. And that last EMPRESS blast hit their Zeus ships dead on. Both are hurting pretty badly, they don't look like they'll put up much of a fight anymore." Drayson smiled grimly and nodded, cold determination filling his eyes.

"Right then, let's see if we can't scare these guys away for good. The Basilisks will fall back and enforce the Aegis Cruisers in their assault against the enemy Star Destroyers. The flagship and her escorts will move to engage the enemy leaders. If they're willing, the Tholatin forces should break off two or their Imperators and two or their Corellia Vlyx Battlecruisers to aide the flagship. Four of our Liberators to assault the enemy Abolisher. Others to remain in defensive flanking positions."

The orders were carried out with more efincieny than usual, and the ships moved into their positions, firing all the while. A Corellian Corvette took a broadside from the Sentinel as the massive flagship passed and exploded, ripped in half by the mighty powers of the Super Star Destroyer.

"Captain, order all ships to open fire." Almost as one, the entire fleet began to fire each of their weapons. The furious laserfire made seeing from one end of the battlefield to the other all but impossible. Starfighters, Republic craft, for the GDI ships were in their hangers still, dodged blasts only to stray into the path of another, as often as not one fired by their own ships. It was a living hell, and in this hell the GDI ships were overlords.

"We have contact," The sensorman reported. How he could read anything amidst the flurry of laserfire was beyond anyone, but the massive forms of two Zeus-class Vylx Battlecruisers were soon to be seen in front of the flagship. At just over five kilometres, they were deadly killing machines. But little match for the flagship and her escorts.

The Sentinel's weapons ripped into the leftmost enemy warship, dubbed the Vpiasi, shattering shields and hull plating like egg shells. The smaller escorts added to this their own weapons, and the mamoth enemy vessel began to burn in a dozen spaces as she tried vainly to return fire against her agressors.

It was a living hell. And this was only the beginning. A thousand kilometres distant, the EMPRESS system let loose with another blast...

"Superlaser charged, sir."

"Good. Fire on my mark. 3...2...1. Mark."

The huge superlaser on the nose of the LAW fired. Its extremely powerful blast shot out at the TNR Zeus-Class Tekesta. The shield went down immediately and the ship was hit with the brunt of the assault. The ship lost all power because of a gapping hole in its side.

It began to list to port, dead. Meanwhile the the MC80 Starfire and the LTAC Cry of the Stars opened up on the Selonian Ignoeus. It was losing its shield quickly. Radon Monts Task Force moved to hook up with the GDI attack force.

Dxun Isstal watched as the Tholatin Super Star Destroyer vaporized the Republic Zeus-class cruiser and frowned. All of this death was needless, caused by one man's love of war. It could all be avoided, if Elegark Mnar was willing. But there was no use in taking that method. The chances of this man giving in were nonexistant. Even if his last ship was destroyed, his last breath leaving him, he would not surrendur. Would he?

"Major?" Dxun said, not taking his eyes from the flaming remains of the Zeus. Such a waste...

"Sir?"

"Send a message on the open channel to all New Republic ship commanders offering an immediate cease fire. Any ships that stand down will be allowed to leave the battle. Also, send a message to Corellia inquiring if New Republic High Command is interested in saving some lives today."

"As ordered, sir." Dxun nodded, satisified. It was up to Admiral Mnar, now, if a million lives would be wasted here today. Do the right thing, Admiral. Leave.

If it weren't for the stubborn nature of the Jutraalian Empire, their prime idiocy, their lack of morals and regard for life, maybe a million lives would not have to be sacraficed here today.

"Continue broadcasting the message. Perhaps someone will take up the call."

"And in the meantime, sir?" Hiram Drayson sighed.

"Continue firing."

By now the enemy Zues-class cruiser was spinning slowly, out of control with small fires raging where oxygen remained to feed them. The rest of the New Republic's Rear Guard was faring no better, and by now the main group was to far ahead to do them any good.

The combined forces of the Basilisk Division and the Tholatin fleet were steadily pushing back the enemy Star Destroyers and Vlyx Battlecruisers. The battle was fast turning into a route.
