Nak Shimor - Five in the Morning

The shots rang out again, the defense turrents seem to have been firing non-stop since about Eight the previous night. Another dropship must have arrived during the night with another wave of Soilders, or worse yet, the full invasion had arrived early. Another hail of weapons fire, then another, the automated defense turrents had been set up in the first offensive, had it not been for them, the city would have fallen in short order.

Cassandra ran down to the street, she was a medium sized red head with an average build, her clothes were a bit on the tattered side, but that was mostly due to the work that had been employed in throwing together the patchwork defenses the previous night.

The roadway itself had been barricaded many hours before, the line to be held against the things that would seek to destroy them. Taking up a position behind the repeating blaster assigned to her for this time, she took aim and opened fire at the silouhttes that registered hundreds of meters down the length of the city.

She ducked suddenly as the flash overhead blinded her blasters sensors, craning up but never letting go of the hendle of her weapon she peers around for the source of the disturbance. A number of larger vessels were traveling overhead, vessels not native of the planet. It was becoming obvious what was cuasing the flashes of light now. Some of the defenses had been angled up to provide areial coverage, and the ships appeared to be droping some sort of objects into the city, which when hit with the defenses, detonated in a halo of light.

Turning back down the length of the city she took up the silouhtte now approaching down the edge of the road, opening up a barrage of beams into it, which it seemingly shrugged off and continued to creep closer. Firing again, she could tell she was scoring hits against these Soilders of the invaders. The shots just were not having any visible effect from this range. By all rights she should be murdering this intruders with her barrays of laser fire, but they did not even stop moving under fire. These were obviously not the troops that had been sent the other night.

Nak Shimor - Close Orbit

Aboard the Destroyer Eternal Fire he stared out the veiwport. It had been a common case among those new to space to experience naseua when looking out a viewport during a close orbit to a world with a high axil tilt, he thought it looked rather beautiful in fact. They didnt know what they were missing.

"Status report ensign"

"Sensors show the forces are succeding in the cuase sir, our main wing is all accounted for sir"

"And Assault Flotilla Charlie?"

"The city will be ours within the next few hours"

He fidgeted a bit, the suit was made of some sort of hard fabric, he wouldnt get used to the new military uniforms of the black Tion hegemony, he just knew it. Maybe his taylor could do something about it, like cotton or something.

"Sir, advanced scout Sin Four is reporting back in a tightbeam transmission from the City."

Well, that was good, if they hadnt then that would indicate any amount of internal defenses might have been in place. That or any enemy with reliable sensor systems.

"And?"

"Minimal defense sir, none of the automated systems we had feared... not reading any planetary shields. They're giving us the clear signal sir"

"Aye, clear Assault Flotilla Charlie to bypass us and enter the city. Contact Sin Four and inform them to distance distance from the city and send it back to Assault Flottilla Delta, they know the plan"

"yes sir, Admiral Servis sir"

He turned back to the viewport, he could feel them, the Charley flotila, passing them by, exiting hyperspace. They would follow soon. Byss deserved to be Imperial, and this gift would be bestowed upon them, in full force.

Bridge of the Stormhawk, high orbit over Taanab.

As the communication came through the lietenant who received it's hand went straight to his ear. He paused from a moment, taking note of coordinates before the transmission ended.

"Admiral Blackblade? We have a request for bombardment support at 4335'2355''2344"'.

Colonel Barton requesting."

Sitting in his command chair from which he seemed to preside over the bridge like a king and his court, Blackblade simply nodded. Moments later the lieutenant was relaying the coordinates to gunnery.

4335'2355''2344"', Surface of Tanaab.

"Get tight in your foxholes, we've got incoming!"

Barton immediately made himself as small as possible inside his 4 foot deep hole. Around him the marines stopped firing, except for the constant pounding of the E-Web's who held back the enemy units.

As the firing stopped a few squads seemed to break from their positions and run towards the Hapan lines.

Idiots.

The full fury of an Imperial Star Destroyer is truly amazing to watch, especially when men are stupid enough to charge into it.

Massive gouts of flame rended the ground, one squad being immediately vapourised. The rest immediately hit the deck, but that wasn't enough to save them. The creeping barrage started its movement back towards the Perlemian Confederacy lines.

Soon Colonel Barton could see elements of the enemy division break and flee. Hefting his rifle a number quickly fell, which put the PC men in a truly awkward position.

Stay, and die by bombardment, or flee, and die by the rifles of the Hapans.

Too many chose to face the bombardment.

Overhead a squadron of Miy'Tils gunned their engines, unleashing another flurry of missile and laser fire upon the beleagured patchwork that made up the Confederacy's lines. The final e-web was silenced.

"Follow me Grunts! Do you want to live forever?"

The marines roared at their units tradition battlecry, launching themselves out of their foxholes with rifles blazing. To Bartons left an enemy e-web opened up, having just pretended to be destroyed. A number of marines fell.

"God?"

The word was not an affirmation of faith, or even a request for divine intervention. From well behind the Hapan lines a number of stark laserbeams could be seen, and moments later the e-web fell silent.

God was the codename for Bartons unit of disruptor rifle equiped snipers, who had up til now had no part in the battle.

No longer impeded by fire the marines charged on and within moments were at the enemy fortifications. Grenades leading, they charged.
